I was just sarcastically repeating what someone said about how most people prefer BB and that TDKR will go down in flames in a poll like this. :o

@Ms Marvel, I was thinking the same thing. The poster Tony Stark seemed pretty convinced in the Misc Comic Book Films section that this poll would be a one-sided slaughter.

And I agree that BB is probably slightly more popular with the fanbase while TDKR is probably more popular with general audiences.

I'm surprised to see how close the results are, even subtracting the TDKR vote by the guy who accidentally clicked it. I've been checking in every 6 hours, give or take.

TDKR seems roughly on par. Where are the fans in the debates?

Tired of going in circles, most likely. It's usually the same thing over and over. Someone brings up what they think is a problem (if I remember correctly it's usually: Blake, Gotham's voice, Bruce having a happy ending and some others I forget), people that like the film argue why they disagree, back and forth for a while, and nobody comes out feeling any different.

    Pretty much.

I doubt it. A lot of TDKR fans are the general audience.

Batman Begins wins for the simple fact that this is the one Batfilm that feels like it truly and totally belongs to Bruce Wayne, both in terms of story and "Who stole the show?"

It also helps that its the one Nolan film where the main villain isn't seemingly running rings around Batman for most of the movie.

Yeah, I see your point. After watching TDK I was thinking mainly about the Joker, after watching TDKR I was mainly thinking about Bane and Catwoman. In BB Scarecrow didn't really stand out, and Ra's Al Ghul wasn't present during most of the movie so the movie belonged to Bruce.

While it had its fair share of mechanical mistakes (such as the chase after the stock exchange scene having the incorrect setting,) Rises is a better made film. There is no crappy Goyer dialogue, no terrible color correction/design (the scenes in the Narrows look like s***,) and it had a proper ending, instead of the irritating tease for a sequel (and unnecessary reference to Burton's Batman.)

The word Rise > The word Fear.

I really thought "Rise" was going to be over-said like "Fear", but it actually ended up being very Shakespearean. It was also said in different ways which made it come across much less forced.

"Sometimes a man rises from the darkness"

    "The Fire rises"

    "What does that mean? Rise"

"Step forward those who will serve. For an army will be raised"

"I see a beautiful city and a brilliant people rising from this abyss"

I love this trilogy and think it's perfect in my eyes and loved that they finished what they started in begins and knight. To start and bookend this series with the LOS story/thread is and was a good idea and I know that some fans didn't like/want the LOS to be in Rises because it felt to them to be a rehash of begins but to me maybe they might of liked the idea to end this series with the LOS in the last film if only there was more films inbetween TDK and TDKR.

Begins for sure. It's a more personal story and it works all the better for it.

I think Rises is equally personal, just told on a larger canvas. But BB and TDKR definitely are the two "Bruce" movies of the trilogy.

Definitely agree on the last part. While Bruce is definitely the main character in TDK, it does feel more like a Gotham City movie overall. I think TDKR feels like a Bruce movie, but they also try to put a lot of the Gotham City stuff in there as well. And in my opinion, that detracts from both sides of the story :p

I really wish we could have seen this movie as a 3+ hour epic.

Easily. I guess the whole origin story with Blake pulls people out of Bruce's arc.

Oh man, same! I just wish we got everything that was cut out put back into the film. Maybe for the 10 year anniversary of TDKR. :oldrazz:

I think this movie definitely deserved to be 3+ hours, the story was worth it. The fact that Nolan was actually able to whittle it down to 2:45 and make it work is a testament to his discipline and efficiency as a storyteller. If anything, some fans were just left wanting more...but that could actually be taken as a compliment.

I'd say most people (most fans anyway not sure about critics) would've forgiven him if he got a little self-indulgent and let it go over 3 hours. I certainly would've. There's that pesky IMAX reel issue though.

Maybe one day we'll see some more stuff even if it's not integrated back into the cut. That reminds me, Ultimate Collector's edition this month! At the very least, we should have a new retrospective doc and Nolan/Donner interview up on Youtube soon, for those of us who will be resisting the double dip. :oldrazz:

I felt that managing to give Bruce a satisfying arc alongside Blake's origin was a testament to the Nolans'/Goyer's abilities as writers and ideamen. I didn't feel like Blake's arc really detracted from Bruce's story. If anything, I'd wanted more from Blake's past. And Catwoman's. And Bane's.

Rises for me. More plotholes, sure. But it just felt more mythological to me.
