It's funny to me. The very second Snyder started babbling about the magical 3 hour R-rated cut before the final cut was even in theaters - I knew this movie was going to struggle.

No they don't. They indicate divisive leaning on the positive side. Overall, i would say between 60-70% liked it, based on all indicators i've seen. Just the other day i posted data about the last 1000 RT reviews or so and around 67% were positve. Twitter reactions, even with a lot of negativity floating around, are still mainly positive. Nobody is debating whether or not the movie has been disliked by a lot of people. It has. But let's not call it what it isn't.

The fact is that a lot of people are easy to influence and predisposed to jump on bandwagons. With so much negativy floating around, it's easy for some people to lose the interest in the movie. You talk about "wom", but we can also talk about the influence certain websites can have on people. You open your fb and you see a website reporting how badly the movie has been received by critics. That's not exactly word of mouth, but it's the type of negativity that reaches a lot of people and can easily turn them off.

The problem here is that you're all assuming this is an audience thing. You're assuming people went to see the movie, hated it, and didn't recommend the movie to their friends. That's fair. But you're forgetting that a lot of people had no recommendations from friends. Some people just read the news and decided for themselves that the movie isn't worth watching, since critics say it is so horrible. It's not just that people didn't come back for a 2nd viewing, it's also that a lot of people didn't even get to watch it one time.

My mom has taken me to watch Batman movies since i was very little. Now i don't need her to take me anymore, but she always shows interest in seeing the new Batman movie, so i taken her in my second viewing. This is the only time she hasn't asked to see it. Why? She doesn't know anyone who has watched the movie. But she has certainly read news and reviews. So yeah, RT, critics, fb pages, can influence a lot of people.

If you can't see this, well..there's really not much to talk about.
 
So what's the likelihood of this falling to #2 this weekend? #3?

For the record I have clearly stated that there are issues with the movie, but I still enjoyed it and feel that the critical bashing is incredibly over the top.

But taste is subjective, and people like what people like. I am still shocked by the amount of people who continue to bash TFA. But I can't tell them they are are wrong because public opinion is on my side.

We are in the BOX OFFICE THREAD. Where we are talking about BOX OFFICE and what that means for the perception of the movie. Clearly TFA bashing did not hurt the BOX OFFICE.

Those that come in here talking about their feelings for the movie and how the BOX OFFICE isn't relevant to public perception in the BOX OFFICE thread is ridiculous and completely off topic.
 
F7 went up 20% on Tues for 4.3.

BvS is maintaining a lower percentage on all accounts compared to F7...call it 16% for:

Tues= $3.71 million.

There was never a 3-hr standard cut. Theaters wouldn't allow it. This myth of WB demanding he cut 30 min at the last minute is crap. It was always planned as a 2-2.5 hr movie.
 
So, now the excuse for this movie doing poorly is because people are easily influenced by the critics... Right.:whatever:

I certainly can't argue with that, but it is equally off topic to say "your wrong, it sucks". I'm also not trying to argue with you, i tend to find your posts focused and level headed.

I, have actively tried to stay focused on issues related to box office, and think that saying popular (box office) doesn't always equate to quality is a fair response to someone saying that it does, in a box office threaed.

Box office says otherwise of course. This is obviously a public opinion.

Wasn't the third PotC 3 hours long? Or did it just feel like it? Either way, I remember it doing alright at the box office.

I meant you don't start promoting a Rated-R three hour extended cut home release before the actual final cut makes it into theaters.

They were already spooked at that point and doing so was a guilty admission.

It only comes up because people continue to come in here to cry about the reception as displayed by the BOX OFFICE. Stop taking it off topic and it won't come up.

And nope, that is clearly not what this topic is for. You want to talk about that, go to the proper threads. Here, the analysis is about the box office and what it tells us about the perception of the film. It does not matter if you think the movie is good or not. That isn't the question. The public clearly doesn't, which is what is relevant here.

But nope, you and others what to fight your war over this movie where ever you can.

Same here. I've got all my hopes riding on that film at the moment. I honestly could not care less about anything else from DC as long as that film does well at this point. I really, really hope they didn't give it a ridiculous budget for it to turn a profit like BVS, and reportedly Suicide Squad, have as well, so that there's a little less worry about it even making it's budget back like we have here.
