BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - - - - Part 13

I remember when I expect BvS to be one of the top 3 highest grossing movies in 2016.

Now I don't think it'll even reach the top 10 this year, seriously Suicide Squad has a higher chance at beating BvS at the box office this year if it's good.

Sure BvS is underperforming but it will still easily pass $300M DOM and probably $800M WW. Traditionally, anything that makes $225M+ domestically and $700M+ WW will finish in the top ten.

Maybe this year will have an unusual number of megahits but I suspect some of those other potential blockbusters will disappoint or at least finish lower than BvS. I predict it will be #6 domestically and #7 worldwide for the 2016 box office.

I think it's reasonable to assume some of the ones expected to be huge hits won't be (just like BVS).

These two statements are why the DCU can't get off the ground. The MCU didn't just happen, Fiege planned and built it brick by brick, DC really thought they could catch up by throwing together a signle patchwork movie?

And the fact that the execs thought that this movie was actually good tells you all you need to know about the ability of the people in charge. Good luck DCU, you sure as F are gonna need it.

The good news in that story is the bit about WB leaning toward slightly fewer releases, a more studio style approach and a more rigorous greenlighting process. It suggests after last year's flops and now BvS' underproduction relative to their expectations, it's finally penetrating their thick heads that something in their process is snafued. So there might be hope for the DCEU yet...

A big issue for WB going ahead is China, its always touted as the next big market and that it will soon overtake the US Domestic market. Its a market that has saved more than a few movies from being called failures over the past few years, and with BvS it had the biggest second weekend drop of a Hollywood movie, ever. Thats not the sort of thing that investors want to see.

True, but I'm very glad they didn't pander to that market by having a Chinese location in the film just for the sake of trying to capitalize on that.

IMO, the best way to do that is a) make a good film (not saying BVS wasn't because I liked it) and b) find a character with that heritage that works within the story and cast someone who is well known by that audience.

The 2.7 was actually 27% to 3.9 million.

For comparison sake Furious 7 had 4.36 million and Deadpool had 5.15 millon on 2nd tuesday

It's not that impressive given that a very large chunk of that was made opening weekend, which is where the movie's hype is in play and not it's quality. Once the WOM started there was one of the worst drops a superhero movie has had, and that's without any relevant competition whatsoever.

BvS was always set to make a lot of money in general terms (meaning much more than the average movie), but it's also forced to make a lot due to it's budget and I don't think anyone foresaw it being able to make as little as the trend is currently indicating.

As for "hate" (a pretty ridiculous word in this context imo), anecdotal experiences never really matter for big issues like these. I've met people that disliked the movie so much that they left the theater before it was over, but I know better than to think they represent a relevant part of the audience.

Wait a minute this is my issue with the mentality of opening weekends for any movie of any kind. If a movie is big its opening weekend like say deadpool its a hit but when bvs does it then Its just frontloaded. If a movie makes a s ton of money it is a success no matter how you cut it. bvs still made almost an extra $300 mil after its opening weekend the following week so front loaded really goes out the window, this film is making over a billion at this point and if that pains haters yes i said haters to hear then too bad.

Are we so spoiled with crap like force awakens makng 500 billion that every movie now has to make a billion opening weekend?

Lets not pretend marvel has been crapping out gold bricks since ironman 1. They are just as guilty as putting out less then stellar movies as well and age of ultron was just as much a mess as this was with shoe horning all this setup stuff for other films blatantly ie thors random hottub scene.

BVS Box office. Go have DC vs Marvel whinge elsewhere.

Deadpool was not front loaded

At this point, they're just doing it on purpose. Or they're so ********* that this movie isn't doing well that they're grasping at straws.

The Force Awakens and Jurassic World were both at $1 billion in the same amount of time. Context. It helps.

All over the internet, folks are praising this film for grossing $700M in just a few days, saying it's the greatest thing ever.

I cringe so hard when folks say that, not knowing what a front loaded film is. :cmad:

No one is buttheart. Its more disappointment but regardless it did better than I expected since it came out with critics crucifying the movie from day one. Even with 29% RT the movie continue to truck along to over 700 million in two weeks. I'm sure some haters are relief that this moving isn't going to break Marvel's Avengers record. Being that it's the second DCEU film once WB gets it right I expect DC CBM to take the crown of highest grossing CBM all time.

There it is, right there.

Yeah 2 films last year out of how many films last year were at a billion by this time? Again spoiled fans thinking every film should make a billion opening weekend or its a bomb.

Which was exactly the plan when they buried yesterday's poor showing until after the market closed, then put out a release ignoring the Monday total of $698 million and instead touting the (unofficial) $700 million number for Tuesday. Result: epic drop on Monday is ignored while a future goal they technically haven't hit yet is celebrated. PR strategy worked like a charm.

But yet your here following the box office thread of a movie your clearly want to fail
