Well the Phantom Menace has the worst legacy of all the prequels and adjusts to about 730 million domestic. Even Clones the lowest grosser adjusts to 450 million domestic.

Like I said compared to almost every other film out there they were bona fide box office hits.

If they had better receptions they probably would have made about original trilogy money.

the film was bad in the United States , but here in Brazil and Mexico the film is a huge success. in Brazil is already the fourth highest grossing film of all time in Mexico and the seventh , not all countries have rejected the film

Those are exceptions though. Globally it has underperformed in most regions. It isn't just the US that is rejecting this film. Not by a longshot.

If there's anyone out there that actually still thinks that WB wasn't expecting Avengers like box office numbers for this, they're only kidding themselves. I mean come on now, this was a movie featuring two of the most beloved and iconic comic characters of all time that people have been wanting to see on the same screen for decades and it just recently surpassed the first Iron Man(barely). Who at the time of it's release was an unknown B-lister among the mainstream audience who had no idea that it was the start of the MCU. And that was also before just about every movie started to be released in 3D.

There's no way that WB can't be somewhat disappointed with BVS's performance.

You keep bringing up Brazil like it matters in the scheme of things to WB. I understand you are from there and so your perspective is going to be skewed but globally those markets are almost inconsequential. For a movie to hit the billion dollar club it has to do well pretty much everywhere but specifically the domestic box office (ie North America) as well as China. If your movie has horrible legs in those markets (like BvS) then your OW numbers almost don't matter in regards to joining the billion dollar club.

Neither Brazil nor Mexico break the top ten of largest Box Office markets worldwide. Being successful there means nothing. Not to crap on your country but facts are facts. It's like saying a movie is HUGE in South Africa.

I am thinking today's total was between 300-400K. BvS's BO is about to fade into obscurity. Next weekend it will dip to 2-3 million and then I can see it making a slow crawl to 330M but stopping short of Guardians of the Galaxy's 333M domestic total.

Don't get me wrong BvS MAY surpass GOTG however, I fully believe that it will not beat Spider Man 3 domestically.

So I did some digging on weekend number 5 box office takes per theater. I got my information from Box Office Mojo
BVS made an average of $1,807 per theater this past weekend. Weekend #5
Zootopia made $2,363 per theater in weekend number 8 for that film. Weekend #8
AOU= $3,532 weekend 5
TDK= $4,562 weekend 5
Deadpool = $3,285 weekend 5
Ant Man =$2,382 in weekend 5. Fell to $1,877 by week #8.
But hey, it beat GL which was at $1,397 in weekend 5

Just a note. I picked movies that have been mentioned at some point in the thread. I did not include TPM because we'll it's Star Wars and it made a lot on weekend #5. It did not fall below $1,807 until weekend #17

I predicted it will not make a billion before it came out due to MOS and Watchmen not being everyone's cup of tea. It's mine but I could understand this and those will not be total crowd pleasers like Avengers and Civil War.

But I'm also predicting that 95% in here that hated BVS will still watch Suicide Squad, WW, and JL part 1 on opening weekend.

I will, but I AM THE 1%. Just sayin.....

What people in here watch doesn't mean big BO numbers.

What do you think reasonable #s for SS, WW, and JL will be?

Yeah. I'll believe it when I see it. Let's wait till the trailers and the SDCC press comes out. They call this place the Superhero 'Hype' for a reason.

Even after the disappointing mess of MOS, people were still riding the BVS hype train hard.

BvS had the hook of the Trinity onscreen together for the first time ever. They can't play that card again for JL.

WB may just curb the budget. Snyder will have all the characters, but he will need to reel in his spending and filming of unnecessary scenes. Keep the script tight, and only film what's on the storyboards.

I don't think we are part of the minority who aren't going to see another DC movie on OW. I personally plan to watch their movies on discount Tuesdays from now on. Seeing as BvS cost me almost $100 lol. Two tickets=$50 plus $25 for parking plus 20 for popcorn

I think if WW and SS can do around $180m each in the US that would be considered pretty good.

I think Lex should have been played by a different actor AND written different.
But, Alot of things kept this from reaching a billion tho.
Supes should have been more of a people person, and proud to be who he is,
Bats coulda been a little less psycho,
Doomsday could have been better.
oh well.

Let's hope they introduce Lex Sr in later films, I expect he would be super p***** at Superman/Batman for his son ending up in jail

It's only impressive if you willfully ignore the fact that the overseas market was significantly smaller eight years ago. Combined with the fact that TDK had no 3D and didn't open in China.
You are right but the guy is comparing BvS to the first IM movie so it is quite obvious that he is grasping at straws .

The only positive WB can take away from BVS is that the opening weekend showed how much interest there was: Huge.

The critical reception and big drops since are all negatives though. Moving forwards that does present a problem with anything helmed by Snyder. SS and WW can help restore faith and interest in the DCEU (WB need them to big time) but with Zack directing JL1 Warners must be concerned. Ideally WB would have fresh eyes working on their universe, but it seems atm that Zack is remaining at the helm.

As Albert Einstein once said: "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

Umm, where the eff are you seeing movies that it would cost that much?!

It's $27.80 for two tickets right now. My parking is free. And snacks for 2 people is around $20.00.
