:pal: I hope Esperanza was trying to be funny, but I doubt it. This "either/or" mentality some uber geeks have is pathetic yet hilarious at the same time...

That was cringe worthy.

Some of these folks acting like the comic company they like is something you pledge undying loyalty to.

really hope these complaints get back to coogler so he can beef up the action and cgi for the sequel which he's hopefully been offered

Let there be no mistake, he was and is ABSOLUTELY the right choice for BP, so many things about this movie were right.

I don't know the whys and hows around why the CGI is a little ropey and I haven't directly compared the finished movie with the clips online, but regardless the finished article wasn't great. At the start of the hyper loop fight scene, BP and Killmonger are falling and fighting in mid air. This part in particular looked cringeworthy, with bendy looking characters and completely unbelievable movements as they punched and kicked each other. Then when they hit the ground and fight on the rails the bendy unrealistic CGI continues but now its acompanied by a camera that is swirling around all over the place like the camera man is on a hoverboard. The trick to make CGI scenes more realistic is to have a grounded camera that tracks the action realistically. What harms it more is that the fight scenes on the waterfalls (with real actors) have all the weight and presence you would expect along with realistic camera angles, this creates a jarring contrast between the two. Also when T'Challa is suited up as Black Panther he never really looks bada$$ (like he did in Civil War) and each time the camera moved towards his mask and I was ready to enjoy the detailed mask CGI it would dissolve away revealing his real face. Because of all of the above, the BP suit never felt like a real physical object that you could reach out and touch.

As I say, the movie overall was great, with great performances and a great soundtrack. Some of the music was really unusual and standout but in a good way. Its a shame that, for me at least, the CGI was distracting.

I've heard from someone who watched the movie yesterday (and I know the guy and read his reviews for years), that it is exactly like in this clip.

lol there is simply no way it actually looks like that in the movie, i would get up and walk out. Plus too many people have said it looks nothing like that vs the one guy you mentioned. Disney has done shoddy cgi (thor ragnarok) before but to put that on the big screen would be more than embarrassing; the cgi is clearly unfinished

Not to say the guy wasn't right, he might be but I'm struggling to think it looks like that clip in the movie. There would be way more people talking about it and pin-pointing the scene specifically than just one or two guys if it was that noticeable in the actual movie and I'm not talking about critics but general audiences and it didn't seem to be an issue from any of the reactions I've seen.I say this because I saw a spot where a snippet of that part is shown and it looked much better than the clip they showed.

Besides thor ragnarok had some shoddy cgi in some parts and that didn't seem an issue for most critics or audiences So Can anyone who've seen it here say whether that part was improved from the clip.

(p.s if it was unfinished whoever decided to release that part for promotional needs to be fired because that's some of the worst marketing decisions I've seen. Couldn't they find anything else to show than that.)

Agree with everything. That clip is on the same level of Cavill and his invisible mustache. We'd have heard more people pointing out that scene instead of just the general "cgi was bad at some parts" complaint.

....that has to be a troll. wow.

Saw the movie last night and really enjoyed it. It definitely has a different feel to the other MCU movies so far and I loved the characters and design of Wakanda.

However, there was one thing that distracted me and took me out of the movie, and that was every time Black Panther was on screen. CGI is noticeably a step down from Civil War with Black Panthers fight scenes looking weightless and bendy. What made the effect worse was the unrealistic camera movements swirling around them during these scenes, they just had no presence to them. They looked like the kind of tacky CGI you'd see in older movies which was really at odds with the tone and look of the rest of the movie (all of the hyper loop fight looked particularly bad).

Even though Black Panther was also CGI in Civil War, there he looked completely real and his fighting and movements looked weighty and realistic for the most part. I didn't even know he was CGI until I watched something about it online. After the movie I rewatched some of Black Panthers scenes in Civil War to be sure, and the difference is quite surprising. It probably doesn't help that I much prefer the Civil War suit either.

Overall (for me) I'd rate it a little lower than I expected due to weak CGI which I think is going to age badly. My top 5:

Winter Soldier
Civil War
The Avengers
Homecoming
Black Panther
Homecoming cgi was bad. spider-man looked fake in the suit.

Another poster has earned a weekend probation for tossing the "troll" word around for commenting on someone who thought a clip had bad CGI. Are we really this incapable of mature conversation?

Again, I am just straight banning you guys for the weekend if this keeps up. Stop calling each other trolls for no reason. Engage in actual discourse! If you think someone is trolling, report it and let US make that call. Again, if you guys are crying wolf in here and there is no wolf, then the one trolling is you.

No it's not.

Yeah I'm willing to bet that its a case of the fighting choreo looking slow/cgi which I can see being the case than the actual environment and characters looking like that clip which would be getting pointed out much more by audiences if it was so and I've also seen other reviewers say its much improved from the clip and looks better in the cinema

Whilst I agree with you, in my personal opinion this was worse.

Remember how Spidey looked CGI in Civil War but BP looked real? Well in the BP movie Black Panther looks CGI. Thats the easiest way to explain it I guess.

Today is the day!!! Can't wait until 7 pm!

BTW this might be because I'm on edge because of the school shooting down here in FL but still....

Everyone be very vigilant and keep on eye on any suspicious activity you notice, this movie has a lot of people riled up and who knows what some nutcases would attempt.

My policy is be vigilant and aware of who and what is around you (know where all exits are), but at same time, don't let that stuff dominate your life. If we do those people win.

Also not trying to derail discussion...but that is my 2 cents on this topic.

My showing is also at 7pm EST

Enjoy! Yeah don't obsess over it but be vigilant.

So this mightve been answered, but what are reviews saying about the tone of the film??
At first I heard it would be a bit more serious ala Winter Soldier, but now some like Bleeding Cool are saying its closer to Ragnarok in terms of humor and playfulness... Im hoping Rich is full of s***, as Id rather this be serious and a bit somber, save the zany humor for part 3

My show is at 10PM IST. Jus a couple of hours left. Hope it'll blow me away. But still I'm keeping my expectation in check. I can't help but wonder, how the excitement in these threads will be, when Infinity war releases...!!!

The entire film is explained by T'Challa while performing on open mic night at the comedy club, I think that is where the funny thing comes from...I'm joking btw :woot:

I cannot wait to watch this movie tonight!!! This would be my number 1 movie of the year...if not for Avengers: Infinity War :oldrazz:

BP
Winter Soldier
Avengers
Civil War
Iron Man

I told ya this would happen :cwink:

Eh..He looks fake in Civil War as well.

I think its as the guy from Emergency Awesome pointed out. At least in Civil War he's going against real people so it doesn't look as fake. When he's going against another Panther and falling in a CGI hole...well.

I'm concerned about the IW scenes with him fighting those CGI creatures.

With Cap it looks fine because he's not CGI'd.

The BP one....ehh...

The Civil War CGI has aged poorly. I don't know why the Russos made it so BP needed to be CGI anyway.

I know BP and IW were filmed at the same time, but Coogler probably should have avoided going so CGI heavy. Also someone should have realized early on that the two Panthers would cause its CGI to stick out more.

Far closer to Winter Soldier than Ragnarok. Some funny moments, sure, but not as much as other MCU films or at the wrong times either, pitched perfectly for me.

Curse you for posting that Cap gif!!! :cmad: Now I am sad cause Infinity War is not out yet for me to watch 100 times :csad:
