And, Joker (a DC movie) had just made $1.1 billion for WB, also Aquaman made $1.1 billion last year.FvF isn't a fair comparison as while it was expensive, it was an awards contender and quite frankly, James Mangold had already made Fox a lot of money with Logan that they could take a punt on his riskier project.
So, if WB loses something like $50 mil. on Birds of Prey they can take that and move ahead.
Surely, WB must have had thought of some kind of worst case scenario for the movie as it was 'R' rated all women team-up comic book movie, I remember before Deadpool's release, even Fox Studios were not that sure whether Deadpool would be successful or not. You can never be too sure with these movies.
