BvS BvS Rottentomatoes score - how important will it be, and what do you hope for? - Part 6

The entire Iron Man trilogy is stellar, I'd recommend it. Sure, the 1st is by far the best of the series but the other 2 are damn fine movies. Easily the best superhero trilogy to date, IMO(though it looks like Cap is going to surpass that and The Avengers franchise probably will as well once Infinity War comes out).

Not anywhere near Nolans Trilogy. As For Capt A, yes those 2 films are good, with WS being miles better than the first.
As for TDK being crap? WTF are you smoking?

IMO Iron Man 1 is the best superhero movie ever made. What I can't understand is guys like Campea calling MoS a masterpiece. Gimme a ***king break.

I like Man of Steel far more than IM1 but I wouldn't call any comic book movie a masterpiece, really. Even 11/10 movies like The Big Lebowski or Star Wars I'd feel hesitant to say that about.

I will say RDJ does far better in Iron Man 1 than any of the movies he's in after.

Act 3 sux. He fights an old man in a bigger suit who magically knows how to use it first try.

I have been on such a weird journey with this film.

When it was first announced, I was like 'Why? You just finished rebooting Batman and made what was the most critically acclaimed superhero movie ever. Can't you just let Batman be for a bit before rebooting him?' (Saying Snyder was going to be the director did not make me happy either).

Then they announced Ben Affleck would be Batman and I kind of thought, 'Hey, this might be alright. I'll bet Affleck is going to be an awesome Batman'.

Then the trailers started to come out and I was starting to get that 'oh no' sense again.

Then the last trailer came out with Alfred dropping Batman off the Batplane and it looked pretty awesome, so I got excited again.

Now, reading the reviews and looking at the Rotten Tomatoes score... man. I kind of thought it wouldn't be super well received, but I thought it'd get a decent reception (50-60%) and would be a good but not great film that would hopefully lead to better films like an Affleck stand-alone Batfilm and a Justice League with better writing/directing.

Instead it's getting torn to shreds critically... I'm still going to go see it tomorrow/tonight (it's past midnight, but I haven't gone to bed yet) but after reading the reviews and a couple of spoilers about some decisions they made with Bat's character that have me seriously irked, I'm not that excited to see it. That stinks. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, though, now that I have really low expectations...

That doesn't bother me so much as almost nothing happening in the movie after the first ten minutes.

I'm well aware that trying to shove in too much action can screw over a superhero movie but IM1 feels REALLY slow.

WTF are YOU smoking. Nolan's trilogy only has 1 decent movie in it and that's BB(the only Batman movie to date that doesn't suck actually...including this new one, apparently). I felt both Cap films were equally great, just for different reasons. Still not as good as IM1 though.

TDK is quite possible the most overrated movie of the 21st century. God-mode Joker BS and all that. Plot conveniences galore showing just how stupid Nolan thinks his audience is. That's one of only 1 big budget superhero movies that I don't only just dislike but I thoroughly revile(Anghulk being the other one).

IM1's Act 3 sux.

To be fair, that statement is true of just about every superhero movie. Inherent flaw in the genre due to the need for big set pieces and CGI overload at the end of every movie.

I know exactly how you feel. I couldn't give a damn what critics think, since they liked the trash that was TDKRises, but -

I was hyped for the future after Man of Steel. Hyped that I heard the sequel would be dealing with the fallout of Metropolis and how the world and Lex view Superman. Hyped when they said it would show Clark doing heroic things around the world. Worried when I saw It was going to be based on The Dark Knight Returns. Hyped when I saw the bat suit. Worried when I saw Eisenberg was cast. Hyped at the Wonder Woman suit. Worried when I saw Eisenberg and some of the other acting in the trailers, along with strange dialogue. Hyped when it was only a week away. Now VERY worried due to some plot and dialogue concerns.

I normally keep my expectations in check for movies, but this probably hurts more just because I thought this would be different from other comic films and I'm a bigger DC fan these days.

So you wanted them to spell things out for you, I see. He couldn't have practiced with it using a tethered power line prior to that when he had the suit in that secret research facility. Give me a better nitpick. The 3rd act was fine and Bridges's Stane is one of the best comic book supervillains to show up in live action to date.

I think people give "the Nolan Trilogy" way too much credit just based on the middle film.

Batman Begins was a good fun film.
TDK was phenomenal
TDKR was a mess, with HUGE holes in the plot and nonsensical character motivations. (I'm pretty sure Batman at NO point has anymore of a plan than "Go up to Bane and punch him" - he only broke his facemask by fluke)

Iron Man was a fantastic film.
Iron Man 2 was fine, but way too much set up and robot on robot fights
Iron Man 3 was a good fun film (apart from even more endless robots in the end act)

1.6m voters disagree with you

I wouldn't necessarily call that a flaw. I have never understood why people complain about that in this genre. Might as well complain about people performing superhuman feats in the movie....because, y'know...folks can't do that stuff in real life.:whatever:

Well, I kind of liked 'Rises', so I can't be too critical of critics there. (I do recognize how bad the plot holes are, though, and it basically took all the awesome themes and set-up from 'Dark Knight' and trashed them... but Bane was so damn awesome. TDKR Bane is the best version of Bane in ANY medium, including the comics.)

But the dialogue stuff you talked about... watching the Bruce/Clark interaction at that party that they have shown basically the entire scene of, I feel like the acting was good but the actual writing was weird... and I have hated every thing I have seen of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Just... ugh.

We'll see though. I'm just hoping I've set my expectations low enough that I can't possibly be disappointed, but I'm such a huge Batman fan that it's going to be difficult if it's as bad as these reviews make it sound...

oh yeah? well i don't care for im 1-3 or nolan's batman movies.

but i'm pretty sure this ain't the place for iron man vs nolan discussion.

The third act of these movies is generally very predictable and the same old crap just about every time. It does not help that the studios have become too reliant on CGI to the point that it actually hurts the suspension of disbelief instead of helping.

Avengers 1 is one of the few that overcomes this issue. Usually a good superhero movie might have a strong 1st and 2nd act followed by the usual chaos with a predictable ending in the third act. I felt Avengers managed to actually get better as the runtime went on and the third act was a lot better than the first two acts. Whedon did a great job with that.

X2: X-Men United is another one with a great third act. Can't think of too many others.

Batman Begins is better than all of those movies including TDK. You know what they say about opinions...

I can't even remember X2's 3rd act. Anyway CGI doesn't bother me unless it's really bad. Gods of Egypt level bad. I already know none of this ***t is real. And I'd feel disappointed if I didn't get a big battle at the end. I don't follow this genre for it's unpredictability.

There are plenty of comic stories where it's not necessarily a huge CGI-esque battle at the end. In the case of Batman movies for instance, I'd like to see them do a small scale showdown with the Joker in a creepy abandoned carnival.

Seeing the movie tonight, finally! Can't wait to see if RT is right about this one or not. I'm hoping I enjoy it, considering Snyder is still doing both Justice League movies. If I end up hating it I'm going to be EXTREMELY disappointed. From the day the very first trailer came out I thought this movie was going to be amazing. Let's hope it still is for me.

And those comic stories tend to be the ones I don't like. I've only ever liked 1 Batman movie to date(Begins) and that very much sticks to the 'big battle at the end' trope.

lol yes and I dislike that part of it. But the first hour of that film is amazing. Best hour of any superhero movie.

why are we discussing other movies in here?
