ohhhh so thats why she was such a b*tch in The Last Stand!
You know, I absolutely hate it when people say this. For three reasons.
One, put yourself in her shoes. If you were suddenly put in charge of rearing a hundred or more so children, what would be your first priority? Being an emotional pillar for a homicidal killer (Jean knew exactly what she was doing to Xavier, and was only thinking of HER own revenge. If she wasn't she would have thought about the children and the fact that they had to either stay at the school or go to foster care. No wonder why we never saw Jean with the kids. Obviously she never gave a rats ass about them.) or forgo her own emotions and take care of the only home she and the others have? Which would you do?
Two, um this is what 616 modern Storm would have done. Yes, yes during the initial Phoenix saga Storm did what she could to save Jean. But she was only a teen ager then. A grown Storm would have had the tough choice doing what she could to save the school or making a futile attempt at Jean. Now I also think that Storm, knowing that Jean is a Phoenix and would have just come back anyway, would have just gone with the school. If you hadn't noticed before in the other two movies, Storm has ALWAYS been all about the children. It's the only piece of consistency she's had. So, why is everyone still surprised that she didn't "save Jean"?
Three, Storm has shown that she's more close to the children that any other X-men. In fact, I think the same about Cyke too, and that's why they were shown teaching. Storm was the only X-man that had two scenes with the children. Which I think says something. But it was Storm who had the scene with Rogue as well, and it was her who decided that the children were a priority at Stryker's base. Now, here's why I think that Storm isn't a ***** or out of character when it comes to Rogue. Watch that scene in X1 with her and Rogue again. Then watch the scene with her and Rogue in X3. Rogue didn't hear a word the woman said to her. Instead she insists on thinking with her vagina, oh and heart, instead of seeing beyond herself and the bigger picture. If there's another piece of consistency about Storm it's that she was never selfish. Too bad the same thing can't be said about Jean, Xavier, Logan, Rogue, and unfortunately Cyke.
Edit: this is something I'm considering putting up for debate.
