What a world we live in when a $200m opening weekend is almost expected for these types of movies.

In about ten years people will be disappointed when a movie opens to "only" 275 m. :woot:

The power of 3D, inflation and growing international market compels you. :hehe:

Only one? If you exclude MCU from Disney, no studio has more than one in the top 5 WW.

and there's no need to adjust. We need a list to reflect who's currently successful, not who was successful 30 years ago. :oldrazz:

.
But one man has the top two to himself. Mind boggling really.

And one for a little while. VIII is on the horizon. :cwink:

So BvS numbers were unrealistic?. Since fans take sides when one 'underperforms' the other gloats. just the way it is -lol
BvS problem is that it fell off a cliff the day after it opened. The numbers were unrealistic until after the movie was released do to the reaction to it. The opening showed an appetite.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR debuted with est. $96.2M this weekend in China

Well that's a pretty great start.

I think VIII will have a tough time topping VII, same with the next Jurassic Park.
It won't top it. But it won't have to to get into the top 5. Have no idea what will happen with then next Jurassic Park.

Yeah...no way VIII does the same as VII. That was a similar situation to the original SW....lightning in a bottle. The novelty factor simply won't be there this time.

CW also passed $50M in Korea yesterday, so it is pacing with AoU (although the holiday makes a direct comparison kind of screwy). It's looking to finish at $75-80M there.

BvS had an incredible opening, beating almost all expectations, problem is movie was crap so it fell off a cliff after a great opening weekend...

It did not beat domestic expectations. It was suppose to beat DH Part 2. It didn't.

WB actually sent out a press release that it did beat DH2 before all weekend numbers were in. oops

After seeing the movie, I can see it not having hyper mega legs. It's great, wonderful, probably the best MCU movie, but in its entirety not a feel good movie.

Still, OW is huge. 60M Saturday is a drop close to JW, A1, better than AoU. There is hope for a 190M OW

Thats more a result of growing box office sales and prices. These astronomical numbers will continue to rise for certain blockbuster films. Thats why a JW or Star Wars OW will become the norm in coming years. And with those numbers will come greater expectations.

Estimate for the weekend is $181,791,000. Projections based on that...

Monday: $15.4M (-66.1%)
Tuesday: $14.2M (-8.09%)
Wednesday: $11.4M (-19.8%)
Thursday: $10.3M (-9.59%)
OPENING WEEK TOTAL: $233M

Friday: $25.2M (+145%)
Saturday: $39M (+54.9%)
Sunday: $27.4M (-29.7%)
SECOND WEEKEND TOTAL: $91.5M (-49.7%)

PROJECTED TOTAL DOMESTIC: $552M (3.03x)

So, the domestic so far is $181,791,00 ?Is that including Sunday? Because we're still in my country. No idea about the States.

WB fudged the estimates above Harry Potter so they could get the "biggest WB movie ever" headlines.

With actuals the numbers dropped.

Good platform to kick on from.

I'd say the ending was more bittersweet. But even IM3, at the end all the suits were destroyed.

So, Sunday is over in States? Interesting.

Well it's just the estimate they are giving. Final number will likely be different. My guess is it will be $1m-$2m higher.
