Box Office Milestone: 'Captain America: Winter Soldier' Sails Past $600 Million Worldwide

The Marvel Studios and Disney tentpole has also crossed the $100 million mark in China.

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo's superhero sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier marched past the $600 million mark at the global box office Tuesday, and is outperforming the first film by a stunning 158 percent.

The Marvel Studios and Disney tentpole has also crossed $100 million in China, the movie's second-highest grossing territory after North America, where it has earned $205.3 million.

Overseas, Captain America 2 -- starring Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson -- has earned $396.3 million to date for a worldwide total of $601.6 million through Tuesday.

Released in 2011, Captain America: The First Avenger took in $371 million globally. The sequel, which has also surpassed the entire lifetime earnings of Iron Man ($585 million) and the first Thor ($449 million), will more than double that number by the end of its run. And it should soon surpass the second Iron Man ($623.9 million) and sequel Thor: The Dark World ($644.8 million).

Other top-grossing countries are the U.K. ($28.6 million), South Korea ($28.4 million), Mexico ($23.5 million), Brazil ($17.9 million) and France ($17.1 million).

Here is hoping for 700mil :cap:

At the ongoing rate internationally and if it keeps performing well domestically (say final numbers above 250 millions) 700 millions is a done deal. It could reach this milestone within 3 weeks or less (depending how much The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will hurt its take when its realeased).

Excellent on the 6. 7 has to be the very last target.

And it's crazy that China is doing 50% of the US gross for a Captain America film!! Wonder what the split will be for Cap 3. And wonder how much Avengers will make in China.

^^Yeah and the best thing about it is that, in this film, there was no needless pandering to the Chinese audiences

So no more forced, disconnected scenes like in IM3!
Hoorayy!!

Which scene in IM3 was pandering to the Chinese audiences?

IM3 hired some Chinese actors for the final scene when Stark was in operation to remove his shards in his heart. It is only in the China's release of IM3. That scene was changed in other versions.

Really is surprising that a film with no obvious Chinese-related scenes is doing so well. Just imagine how AoU is going to do there and everywhere else. I could easily see it doing $1.7-2.0 billion.

I'm pretty sure it'll do over $2B. If you look at growth in overseas numbers with sequels for even crap franchises it just seems to get bigger regardless of quality. And I expect Avenger 2 to be a better film than the 1st. Pirates 4 made over $800m overseas, what a joke!

BoxOffice ‏@BoxOffice 2h
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER took in $2.21M on Tuesday. Domestic total now stands at $205.30M. #CaptainAmerica2

Should be close to $210 M before the w/e.

Dayum, $600 mil huh? Hell to the yeah! Closing in on $700 mil now. So awesome to see Cap get the love he deserves. Here is to hoping Cap can finish strong and hit that last benchmark!

Definitely another $5+mil. before Friday, any I'm thinking somewhere about $15million for the weekend, $20-25mil then before Monday. If OS gets around $20-$25, then Cap might pass TDW's total WW by the end of the weekend, right? It could be closer to $650 by Monday even.

Ain't lookin' too shabby for mah Super Soldier bb!!

Hopefully we're at a point next phase where the notion that no Marvel Studios film without RDJ has the capability to overpass a Spider-man film.

With $650 million in sight and $700 million looking more possible by the day, it's time to celebrate! :awesome:

If your a Marvel fan and/or have kids this is something you will want to check out. It's called Marvel Universe LIVE and it looks to be something huge. I made a thread about it here in the comics section because I wasn't sure where to put it:

http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=466805

You can see when they are coming to a city near you at the site:

http://www.marveluniverselive.com/

and this will be a multi-country thing as well! Looks like Marvel is going to have another hit on their hands. I don't see how this thing will be anything but a monster with the popularity of the movies

You can see Cap live and in action!
