You're an presumptuous clown, making crude and baseless (not to mention insulting and judgmental) generalizations about the lifestyles of the people on this board. So no, the problem is not that I "missed your point," the problem is that your point was foolish.

The funny thing is that you make this condemnation of people spending their time posting on superhero message boards.... by posting on a superhero message board. :o

Oooh, I don't know about that. Incredible Hulk has Norton, Tyler and academy award winner William Hurt. Iron Man's got Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges and RDJ. Wolverine's got a bunch of stars too. Recently, only Watchmen didn't have some big names.

I should've clarified that I was talking about the newer flicks, not the old Superman and Batman flicks. Some of the people named above are decently known or even well known but they don't make or break these superhero movies. Alfred Molina, Eric Bana? :hehe: People went to see Iron Man, Spider-Man and X-Men, etc. because they wanted to see flicks about Iron Man, Spider-Man and X-Men. Jackman wasn't a name until X-Men, so he hardly counts. RDJ who was never a huge box office draw owes his career revival to Iron Man. And no one on this planet said "Oh Willam Dafoe and James Franco are in Spiderman...I wasn't going to go but now that I know they are in it..."

Willem Dafoe and James Franco may have said that

^And their mothers...maybe.

I don't think anyone thinks it's a bad thing that Thor doesn't have huge stars in it (yet), just a strange thing, and possibly a bit unsettling for the B.O.

That's absolutely overdoing it. You think ANYONE on the planet said "Well I wasn't gonna see Batman, but if BILLY DEE WILLIAMS is in it..." or "Dude, Spiderman sucks...wait, an actor from Freaks and Geeks is in it?!? I'm in."

You think anyone went to Batman Forever just to catch Chris O'Donnell?

Lord knows I only saw Batman Begins because of Ken Watanabe

I gotto agree with some of the negative feedback here regarding the cast... even if they get Hopkins or someone of that level for Odiin... that's going to be like 10-20 minutes worth. And you can't sell a film with an actor like that alone. They need come younger blood still in their primes. Something like what LOTR had... Davies, Wenham, Bean, Mortenson, Mckellan... those level guys.

Not really, there are plenty of us that'll see it simply because it's a THOR movie.

I think a few members posting on this board are 20 years old, or perhaps younger, and so do not know who was considered a "star" back in 1978, 1989 or even 2001....Chris O'Donnel was a star back in 1995, with roles in School Ties, Scent of a Woman, The Three Muskateers, Circle of Friends and Mad Love. So yes I think Chris O'Donnel was a draw for some audience members. All of the actors I listed have been in movies, and are known to the general movie going audience, some more than others. When Marlon Brando signed on for Superman, you had the biggest movie star in the world in your film. The same thing with Jack Nicholson doing Batman. The point being that Katie Holmes, Ken Watanabe and James Franco ARE names compared to Tom Hiddelston and Chris Hemsworth....

Kenneth Brannagh is a name, not a huge draw, but a recognized movie actor, and I am sure he will play a small role in the movie as well. My feeling is they need to get Angelina Jolie/Monica Bellucci to play Hela, and perhaps names for the Jane Foster and Sif roles, with Natalie Portman a good choice for Jane Foster, and Rhona Mitra for Sif. The Lord of the Rings did not have a huge name, as Sean Connery passed on the Gandalf role, but you still knew a lot of the actors in the movie: Cate Blanchet, Liv Tyler, Sean bean, Sir Ian Mckellan, Elijah Wood etc....

well the biggest name from the 1st spiderman was the chick who played mj, and the only huge star x-men had was patrick stewart.
There's been numerous superhero films since the first X-Men and Spider-Man, so the novelty value is probably gone. It may be harder to get the audience excited about another comic book movie. Especially one that isn't based on a character as iconic as Spidey. Many of the newer superhero films like The Incredible Hulk, Iron-Man and even Dark Knight had ensemble casts of well-known actors.
Not really, there are plenty of us that'll see it simply because it's a THOR movie.
True, but there's also plenty of people who aren't fans of the character. A reasonably famous actor can help to attract those kind of audience members by promoting the movie in magazine interviews and talk-shows and by having a name that catches your eye when you see it on a movie poster or a DVD-cover. And it's better for a movie to have at least one actor the audience knows can be trusted to give a solid/enjoyable performance.

I think all it'll take to perk people's ears up about Thor is marketing. The moment someone utters "the next big superhero blockbuster" in 2011, Thor will start getting attention. Then Hemsworth and Hiddleston will be known as "those guys in the Thor movie," just as Chris Pine is now known as "Kirk from that new Star Trek movie" even though he was almost totally unknown before.

I am reserving judgement until I see him in the costume.

Sean Bean makes any film just a bit better
For Real Yo

Before Star Trek Chris Pine was the guy from the Linsey Lohan movie to me or McFlys manager

Ok, but Chris Hemsworth has 4 movies coming out between now and Thor's release, with the potential for more after he finishes fillming Thor. Public awareness will be higher for him then than it is now.
