Commissioner Gordon Casting Thread

Bryan Cranston still my pick

But I have been warming up for Guy Pearce

These calls for Guy Pierce are making me feel very old. I’ve been posting here since 2003, before Bale was cast, and a lot of people were talking about Pierce for Batman.

Honestly I could see any number of actors as Gordon. He's never been a character I've felt only a few people can do justice.

It's gonna be tough to match Oldman. He was pretty much the perfect Gordon for me. I think the likes of Cranston and Chandler could though. You just need a guy you can root for. I'm not expecting Gordon to play as big of a role like in the Nolan films. Nolan's utilization fit in with his grand scale cast of characters in a city crime type of story. Where in his realistic Gotham, Batman, unlike the comics doesn't do everything himself and gets help. Here it seems this is very much within Batman's POV and will be zeroed in on him, which means doing a lot more, hence the detective story. So there won't be as big of a need to include Gordon as much.

I saw Sterling K Brown suggested for Lucius. But if he were to be in the film, I'd want him for a meatier role. He's played frustrated members of law enforcement before.

I saw someone suggest Steve Zahn before, and that could be a sort of unconventionally interesting choice, plus he's worked with Matt Reeves before.

Throw some glasses on him and he really looks like Miller's Gordon from Year One. I think Zahn is my favourite suggestion now.

Jeffrey Wright is still my top choice, but if we get White Gordon, Steve Zahn is one choice I'd be 100% on board with. I think it's very likely he'll be racebent though, given that there's established precedent for it.

Wright is awesome, but I'd like a younger actor to play Gordon. He's probably not going to already be commissioner when Batman is just starting out, right? Kind of like Batman Begins or Year One?

Gordon is one of the only main Batman characters I have trouble thinking of a pick for...

Just for the two-fer of it being a role he could pull off well + pissing off the people who fancast him as Bruce for years and years...

Jon Hamm.

You know who doesn’t hate CBMs?

MacLachlan would be my pick for Thomas Wayne/Simon Hurt if they ever used Morrison’s R.I.P. storyline.
My fondness for that storyline notwithstanding, Batman R.I.P. is a little too convoluted for the big screen. It involves everything from Fourth World mythology (e.g., Darkseid, the Hyper-Adapter aka Barbatos-before-Scott Snyder-ruined-the-character) to time travel. On their best day, WB wouldn't do it justice.

I think there are lots of actors who could play Gordon. People forget that Gary Oldman was an outside the box choice for Gordon when he was cast.

I would actually look at an equally outside the box choice for Gordon like Hugh Jackman. Yes , he played Wolverine. At this point, audiences are fine with, and accept actors playing multiple comic book characters.

That said, I could totally see him as mentor, friend, and good man working within a corrupt sotto -east coast police department. You could actually believe he was a cop and a war hero.

I actually think he could play off of Pattinson well. He can certainly pull of the look of Gordon.
