Contest Of Marvels II Discussion Thread

I vote Maestro, and Savage.

The rest I don't think are neccesary. Mr Fixit, Prof, War...
 
You all totally need to include the Eternals, Thomas Shepard, Adam Warlock (with the gem he's just as potent a force as the Silver Surfer), Temugin (the Mandarin's son), the Ghost (Iron Man villain), and some 2099 characters. :up:
 
Eh, sure he's had his high showings, but so have a lot of characters. And like other characters, Strange has had his low showings too. If you're going to get rid of him just because of his high showings then Surfer should go as well since his high showings would put him up there with Thanos, who is already voted Too Uber.
 
I agree with JB. Strange isn't always that powerful. Thanos is too uber because he's always having high showings. He's almost never down (except against Spidey and Squirrel Girl). But all the characters we keep in can go above what they normally do and push the next level up (which for ubers like Strange, is the tuber level).
 
You can argue all you want that he has bad showings, but he damn well came close to winning the whole thing last year, which backs up my point. And he only lost (just bareful) to a foe who was even immune to mystical attacks. If that doesn't show how dangerous he is than I am not sure what does.

As for SS, if it's a real problem with him than maybe we should drop him too. The only reason he could be in it anyways is that he comes with his passivity, diplomatic nature and high value of life. If that's taken from him than he would probably be too dangerous for the tournament.
 
Ok, if there is any question as to how uber a character is, maybe we should (for now) move them to the potential list.
 
With an initial look, I see Quasar, Silver Surfer and Morg should probably moved to Potential. Any others?

So he made it to the final four. Doesn't mean he should be banned because of being powerful. Same goes for Desak. Just because he made it to the finals doesn't mean he's Too Uber for this thing.
Back to Strange, there's plenty of powerful people in this thing who could take him down with some intelligent fighting (Surfer, Drax, Hulk, Maestro, any Herald, Eternals if they're allowed, Kang, Doom, etc). Even some lower powered characters could take him down in the right setting and with the right plan. He is only human after all. Given the right character in the right setting with the right strategy and tools, you could take him down pretty quickly (like when Moondragon put him down). Deathstrike Vs Kang and Xavier Vs Thanos from last season come to mind when thinking of lop-sided matches, powerwise, in which the weaker character almost won thanks to a good strategy (though they didn't win they still gave it a hell of a run, and Chuckles damn near pulled out the W. In fact he came the closest to beating Thanos than anyone else in the tourny).

As for Surfer only being allowed in due to his passive nature...Strange may not be passive like Norrin, but he's not some evil bastard who will be going all out to kill his opponent from the get go. Just like Surfer, his goodly personality can be exploited if one plays it smart.

Those would be the top three. I don't think it has to go further but Terrax and Firelord would be the next in line.

Yep, in Dazzler #7, Allison beat The Hulk. Who knew?
 
Here I am bored at work, and I decided to look at various different threads...and I pushed the "View" and "Replies" categories. The original Contest of Marvels Discussion Thread is still 12th in Viewings and 6th in Replies. And, if you factored in the already removed 4 Threads that the actual battles went in, we'd probably be second only to Sparta's original Marvel Tournament Thread. (He totally kicks butt in both those categories, especially in views!)

Already, this discussion thread is moving up fast. I'm really starting to get psyched about Season II....especially seeing some of the potential fighters we'll have a chance to get. (Now, if I get Dazzler for some strange reason, I'll be dying to face Hulk in Round 1!)
