Countdown: New Weekly Series

It's been quite enjoyable for the last ten weeks or so. Moved from the bottom of the read pile to the middle.

Yea, Countdown started off "meh", then go "real bad", then slowly and slowly has gotten better. It has gotten to the point since maybe the mid 20's that I actually look forward to the next issue.

Though Corp probably shouldn't pick it up anymore. Captain Atom continues to be a really bad guy for no reason what so ever, and I know that that kinda s**t pisses Corpy off to know end.

I think it really picked up around issue 16 when it focused on the Donna-Kyle-Jason-Bob aspect of them universe hopping and Prime running rampant.

I really dont know where the Holly/Harley/Amazonian and the dead Trickster/Piper were going.

I really hope Mary rebounds from here little power trip fiasco though.

I've given up on Captain Atom. I'm betting we'll never get an explanation for why he's evil. That's the level storytelling has sunk to at DC. :o

Also, I'm thinking I may pick up the last five issues of Countdown, just to see what the inevitable outcome of all this crap is. Or maybe the last issue to determine whether I'll bother with Final Crisis or not. I'd rather waste as little money as possible on DC's events.

Editorial mandate infects both Marvel and DC.

Yep, but more of DC's comics have been worse because of it, in my opinion. There's not much I look forward to at DC anymore, sadly.

Yeah I quite liked how every single player just got randomly teleported to Apokolips this week out of freaking nowhere.

"We need to gather all the players together for the finale? Forget having organic storylines that would eventually intersect! BOOM TUBES FOR EVERYONE! WOO!!"

Good job, guys.

Were you really expecting organic storylines that would eventually intersect?

I'm not quite sure what I was expecting. Definitely not a literal deus ex machina to appear in the middle of the desert to pick up someone who has heretofore had nothing to do with any of the other stories.

I mean, magical writing appears in Jimmy's shower panel to tell him to go back to Apokolips...which, now that I think about it, is where he just came from.

You must assemble quickly! Only ten issues left!!

Well, a man's gotta bathe every now and then. Imagine how gross he would feel if he just stayed on Apokolips and never got to take a shower. :o

Nah, he only showered 'cause he went back home to have sex with bug girl Forager.

At least we now know what the heck is going on with his powers.

...which, now that I think about it, wasn't even revealed in Countdown but in Death of the New Gods.

Ew, really? Jimmy's banging evil Harbinger?

And what's the deal with the powers?

Edit: Never mind, I read Wikipedia's entry on him. That seems blindingly obvious. I thought they'd have a cooler explanation...

I quite like the origin of his powers, at least it makes sense with what is going on.

Same Jimmy with powers has been stupidly boring.

They should have just made him crazy-evil like in the Nail.

It's a bit more complicated than that wiki article, for better or worse. It has to do with the Source becoming a big *****e and killing everyone. Jimmy is literally the Source's "physical agent" to collect those souls for the eventual rebirth.

Barda? :(

I think it's the Source's darker half or something, I dunno, but with the Source's implicit backing. The creation of the Fourth World was flawed. The Fifth World will be...not flawed?

The actual person pulling the trigger hasn't been revealed yet.
