I think they may be holding Containment until they finally decide what to do with IZombie. I think Originals will still be around next year. Vampire Diaries may depend on whose deals are up. Remember Dobrev left at the end of her contract.
I don't think the shows are as easy to cross over as Arrow and The Flash, but I do think it is something they should be doing. Basically all the main cast of TVD stem from Klaus' sire line, so I really don't know how much danger they're actually in, but it would be nice to see some acknowledgement on their end. I'm also semi-curious to know which sire-line Enzo and the Heretics come from. That Vampire Diaries and The Originals host a two-hour crossover event in their new Friday-night timeslots. The shows hardly feel related at this point, and that's troubling considering the spinoff's current arc could take out most of the Vampire Diaries cast. It's time to address the mythology links – and give both dramas a much-needed ratings boost.
Vampire Diaries and The Originals to cross over this season
Get scoop on how the Salvatores and Mikaelsons cross paths
BY NATALIE ABRAMS
The worlds of Mystic Falls and New Orleans will be coming together as The Vampire Diaries and The Originals stage a crossover this season, CW boss Mark Pedowitz announced at the Television Critics Association’s press tour on Sunday.
“You will see, organically, a crossover this year,” Pedowitz said. “Not of the size and scope of we do for Arrow and Flash. They have to make sense [story-wise]. If they don’t make sense story-wise, don’t do it, don’t force it — the audience can tell.”
EW can now reveal how the Salvatores and Mikaelsons will cross paths: “It’s something that we’ve always wanted to do, but never could quite find the organic way to do it,” executive producer Julie Plec tells EW. “We never wanted to force it. The storylines happen to match up in a way that Stefan [Paul Wesley] has to go on the run and seek safe haven, and lo and behold, New Orleans is that safe haven, and who does he come face-to face-with but Klaus Mikaelson. It’s a nice two-episode set of Vampire Diaries-Originals cohabitation. It’s going to be good. I’m excited about it.”
When the shows return, The Vampire Diaries and The Originals are heading to Friday night. “The move to Friday night is not a move to exile [the shows],” Pedowitz insisted. “It’s a move to strengthen Friday night.”
The Vampire Diaries and The Originals return Friday, Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. ET and 9 p.m. ET, respectively, on The CW.
The Vampire Diaries-The Originals Crossover: Julie Plec Teases 'Reunion of the Bourbon Buddies'

The Vampire Diaries and The Originals will embrace their shared DNA with an "organic crossover," The CW president Mark Pedowitz told reporters during his Television Critics Association executive session.
But though Arrow/Flash has made their splashy crossover event a now-annual tradition, Pedowitz shared that the TVD/TO crossover will not be the size of what the DC universe does. “It has to make sense,” he said. “If it doesn’t make sense story-wise, they don’t do it.”
The Vampire Diaries/The Originals executive producer Julie Plec said that the crossover will occur in Episode 14 of both shows. "For the first time, we have an opportunity where we can send one of our characters to New Orleans with good reasons," Plec said. "The storyline we're playing in The Vampire Diaries, which Stefan finds himself very much in need of a mystical safe haven. And on The Originals, there's a bar...which no magic can permeate."
"So, he goes to seek refuge in New Orleans," Plec continued. "And comes face-to-face with Klaus Mikaelson, because nothing happens in Klaus' town without Klaus knowing. I call it the reunion of the bourbon buddies over two episodes."
Which means both Paul Wesley (Stefan) and Joseph Morgan (Klaus) will appear in both hours of the shows. "The first half, Stefan goes to New Orleans, he [sees] Klaus," Plec teased. "And then in The Originals side of it, Stefan remains to help Klaus clean up some business he's dealing with at the moment that has a direct impact on Stefan himself."
Given both characters' ties to Caroline (Candice King), Plec allowed that it won't be ignored. "All I can say is Caroline has an involvement in the way that we've decided to dramatize the crossover," Plec previewed.
The Vampire Diaries' EP on Their New Friday Time Slot and Damon's 'Journey in his Custom-Made Hell'
Marisa Roffman January 28, 2016 5:20 pm
For the first time ever, The Vampire Diaries has a new night on The CW: Fridays at 8/7c.
“My first reaction was, ‘Oh...’”, executive producer Caroline Dries told reporters after a screening for the show. “But we’re not a superhero show, we’re on a million seasons, of course we have fewer viewers now than when we started. Of course it’s a little humbling, because it’s such an obvious [mindset] that low-level shows go to Fridays. However, The CW, I feel, is the exception, because Supernatural did so well on Fridays.”
“Who knows what will happen?” she continued. “We’re not really in it for getting new viewers; the fans that we have now are the people who will watch it any day of the week. My first instinct is a little bit of an ego tap, but the second I processed it was, ‘Fine.’ The only weird thing will maybe be not having as many people able to live-blog, because they actually have a life or are out to dinner doing something more interesting on Friday nights…[but] of course they’re going to put Legends [of Tomorrow] on Thursdays. I get it.”
The series is also counting on its fall finale cliffhanger to bring viewers to its new Friday home. We last saw Mystic Falls residents Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) stabbed, and their souls trapped in the Phoenix Stone...essentially rendering them stuck in their own personal Hell.
“This is Damon’s story of the chickens coming home to roost,” Dries teased. “He had unresolved emotional issues with his mom. He basically spat on her while she was dying; spat on her grave. And now it’s time for him to have a mirror held up to him and say, this is what happens when you don’t have remorse. This is his journey in his custom-made hell for him.”
The Vampire Diaries airs Fridays at 8/7 on The CW.
Can you tease anything about Damon’s time in the Phoenix Stone on The Vampire Diaries? — Helena
Have you ever seen Groundhog Day? The Phoenix Stone is pretty similar. (More on that here.) I’ll just add that the horrifying moment Damon relives leads to an ending that will leave your jaw on the floor — and not just for him, but for everyone.
wait. so did damon actually kill elena or was it just another hallucination?
Gotta say, I really like that Matt reveal at the end. I feel like this turn for the character is a long time coming, considering one of the first things Damon did in the series was killing his sister, and now he's lost the girl he's been closest to since childhood because of their bulls***.
