The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Dane Dehaan IS Harry Osborn

Would prefer Harry as Venom, it's cleaner meaning there is more chance of character development as there is less characters to develop and the plot will be streamlined. SM3 screwed up because they left themselves to much ground to cover. So Harry as Venom gets a thumbs up from me.

1. Just to fill out more and look the part

2. It's likely they will either be having Harry turn into the Hobgoblin (from USM) or serving as a red herring for Green Goblin. Either way, he needs to at least look like he could possibly be one of them.

3. There's the off chance that he might be Venom in this, but given all of the characters and antagonists already in this film, its VERY unlikely.

Dane Dehaan is supposed to be really good in A Place Beyond The Pines. Dehaan's role has more screentime than the trailer suggests.

harry as vemon would have alot of Partential, taking the place of brock in the ultimate but also being linked to oscorp to bring in venom and norman osborn to bring in the goblin so the 2 connections seem like they would work well in a this film series

but like i said many wouldn't like it, probably more so because its not in the comics, even though it would just be the name and elements of the character gone

With Harry as venom you will TRULY have the dilemma of Peter taking his friend down or saving him. ASM 'should' have had this aspect but didn't especially with Peter going to the police to tell them about Lizard, something I feel he would also do with EBJ but no way would he do that to Harry. This change makes sense on a lot of levels.

For a film series, Harry as Venom is vastly more economical and emotionally resonant. Maybe it even makes a cheap 90s cover-seller like Venom into an actual character instead of a gimmicky 12-year-old idea of what's awesome.

(not dismissing the comics' Gargan-Venom or recent Flash-Venom, as those are pretty wonderful uses of the concept)

I'm seeing it the weekend it comes out, so hopefully I like him. :) I'm confident he'll be playing a jock-arrogent Harry in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 so hopefully he fits the bill.

What's his "in" to the story? Do we see the separation of Gwen/Peter play out through a Peter/MJ friendship and a Gwen/Harry dynamic? With obviously the Pete/MJ being more understated friend-oriented, and Harry pursuing a reticent Gwen?

Makes sense to me. I've never dug Harry in school with Gwen and Peter. His dad's the richest guy in town almost. Totally ludicrous he goes to a public school.

But if he sees Gwen at Oscorp and takes a shine to her?
I'm not hoping for needless back and forth romantic triangles or quadrangles here - lord knows Raimi gave us a lesson in how god-awful that can be. But it seems like about the only way you get Pete/Gwen/Harry in the same room in Webb's world.

Yeah, I've always liked the idea of Peter having a different male friend. Harry always seemed like a bad friend to have around. I mean the guy could be friends with anyone and chooses Peter. Cool, but you always get the impression he's just after his chick or maybe he's too stuck up to be friends with anyone else. Maybe we should see in ASM2 that although he's rich, he's not a very nice person and Peter is the only one to befriend him. You can also assume there's gonna be a love triangle with Gwen or MJ. Not sure I feel about him becoming Venom. But then I also wonder what role he can play other than the connection to his father....

I think we will get a much different Harry in these films, more athletic, more spoiled and openly aggressive. I think it's likely he will pursue Gwen, and possible he will just sort of abide Peter initially, not caring much for him. But as the film progresses, maybe an unlikely friendship will form naturally. So by the end, they are actually slight pals.

This would be deepened by the start of the third film, but the Goblin shows up and Peter becomes convinced it is Harry and this breeds mistrust between them. Peter's mistrust pushes him to really fracture the friendship. At the end it's discovered that Norman was the Goblin the whole time (after Gwen's death) but by that point it's too late.

Harry knows Spider-Man killed his father. He hates Peter because Gwen chose him. All set up for ASM4 when Harry becomes Venom and forms the Sinister Six as a means of destroying Spider-Man.

Which then brings on Kraven the Hunter in 5. ;)

No. Harry is going to be Peter's best friend mid-way through this film, as he should be.

If they wanted to do the Venom story at some point, id much rather them use the SSM Eddie Brock route than that silly USM route

The Raimi movie came out with a good explanation.
Norman - 'we should park round the corner because you flunked out of every school?'

As IAM said, it's far more economical to place the Venom entity on Harry rather than introduce another character (EBJ) and then have that new character befriend and then hate Peter.

Take SM3 (please, take it :woot:) remove the EBJ character and GG2 persona and then place the Venom entity on Harry. Harry ALREADY hates Spider-Man and ALREADY resents Peter for not only taking pictures of Spidey but taking MJ from him, the story is already streamlined into something resembling a plot.

Kids that rich in real life don't flunk out, they fail upward. Which is sad.

Anyway that worked for Raimi's film fine enough, but it's kind of an acknowledgement of how stupid the conceit is. This movie doesn't need it as an intro-point for the Harry character.

Harry shouldn't become Venom IMO! Please, no!

I'd rather have no Venom at all than have Harry become him. I really want Harry to just be Harry this time, and go the TSSM route of you not knowing if it's he or Norman who really is Green Goblin.

i can only imagine everyone wants norman to be green goblin anyway

There would be too great of a backlash if Harry becomes Venom. They wouldn't risk it.

its possible maybe sony or Avi Arad think it would be a good idea because they wanted to do a venom spinoff and obviously they want it connected in a big way to TASM

its a possible theory

This mythical idea of "fanboy backlash" having any impact on anything is sad.

They care about A) making money. B) crafting an effective story and c) making money.

The general public could care less. And the general public has also seen the Eddie Brock Venom and the Harry Goblin. In addition to "Vengeful Harry Goblin" being a lame rehash as a conceit to begin with, there's nowhere else for that story to go that would be surprising for an audience.

And Venom is even thinner. Nowhere new to go with that shoestring narrative for sure.

Harry Venom is a logical choice in all phases: story, character, and offering an audience something fresh and engaging.

I agree with every word of that, the only thing I disagree with is B) should also be 'making money' (rather than 'crafting an effective story').

Harry Osborne as Venom is an improvement on the character and source material. Truth.

And get rid of that stupid yardstick-length slobbery tongue and those footlong sharp teeth. So 90s. So lame.
