Racism was barelly the main theme in DoFP actually, it was more about how conflict after conflict only lead into more death, or "nobody's born evil". Hell, the film actually had more about self improvement and courage than dealing with racism, it's wasn0t heavy handed in the film, it was barelly there.



X-Men: Days of Future Past is exactly that, the franchise shifting focus from Wolverine himself and into the other mutants. Professor X, Magneto, Mystique, Wolverine, Beast, Quicksilver, Bolivar Trask and William Stryker, these were the main characters of the story, and they all had the oportunity to shine.

And about the bigger stories, once again, Days of Future Past has been the first step, it was very epic, both emotionally and thematically, now the next film is going to deal with Apocalypse, the franchise is pretty much at the point in the 70s-80s when the comics were getting bolder and presenting higher concepts, and unlike most other film series, they're doing it in a single grand movie, instead of dividing the story into 2 movies like most other studios.

I agree that DoFP is ultimately a step in the right direction for this franchise. It's not a big step and I could easily wish for more but it is positive change, no matter how small.

Yeah, it just opened. I can't wait! That's one of my other favorite Disney movies. My sister and brother-in-law are taking my nephew the next night (it's his first Broadway show!) and I'm babysitting his little brother. Basically, it's Aladdin weekend for all of us.

I loved Lion King! My friends and I saw it in standing room when it first opened, and we got attacked by the hyenas. I'm not even making that up.

That's awesome! It was really cool to have the elephants and giraffes walk down the aisle next to us to get to the stage.

While that is true, most summer blockbusters that have Imax showings aren't shot with Imax cameras either. They just stretch the picture to fit the width of the screen. I'm glad Regal has those RPX theaters now. The screen is larger than a regular theater and the sound system is awesome. That's what I saw X-men on.

Basically, there was no excuse(as far as I can tell)as to why they didn't try to get an Imax release. I desperately want the next film on Imax. If Apocalypse can grow in size and has his other powers like in the comics and 90's cartoon, I want to be blown away seeing that on Imax.

I saw DOFP this weekend on a regular 2D screen, and I had forgotten what those auditoriums at my theater looked like, it had been so long since I'd been in one. Even my folks were baffled when they realized we weren't going into the IMAX.

Do you have a Regal theater where you live? If so, I recommend watching action films on the RPX. My wife and I have seen Winter Soldier, TASM 2, Godzilla and DoFP on that screen and it kicks ass. It's a few bucks cheaper than Imax(Imax can charge more simply because of the name to be honest)and the sound system is just about as good and the picture is larger than a regular theater. I highly recommend it if the next X-men isn't on Imax. Or...if you want to see DoFP again.

The AMC has ETX theaters, so I might check it out there.

I'm still soooo jealous you got to be on stage with Jackman! Not just because he played Wolverine but he seems like one of the coolest most down to earth celebs who actually seems to enjoy talking to his fans.

It so cool!!!! I'm not over it. I probably won't ever be.

He was so nice, it was ridiculous. I actually heard he was there for the next two hours meeting with fans.

And it was funny when they turned up at our DOFP screening. Hugh just walked in saying, "Hi, how ya doing?" with the other two right behind him. They were incredibly cool. Actually when we were leaving the Javits Center to get to our screening and the publicists were clearly trying to get all of the actors into their screening, we found James McAvoy still meeting with fans, and he looked like he was having a blast.

This cast is awesome.

That's awesome. I saw it way back when it first opened, and I remember my friends and I were a little reluctant to go ("Lion King? Really?"). That all melted away after that opening scene.

I saw it again a few years ago, and it still looks incredible.

I'm not sure of all the IMAX/LieMax terminology but I do know that the Giant Screen in Birmingham, UK, (the city where I work) will be showing DoFP from June 12. It was an IMAX cinema but then converted to digital projection to broaden the choice of films it could show. It has a 72ft wide, 40ft high screen, the second largest screen in the UK.

So it's clearly possible to show this film in a 'giant' format. The question is why didn't it get a general release in that format. Must be down to distributors?

Oh I know, it is just that any film that isn't shot in IMAX doesn't need IMAX showings. The only real advantage is the brighter/better screen. Otherwise you are paying the up charge for nothing.

This I definitely agree with. IMAX should be the thing, not that horrible 3D.

I think I said this up thread, but Warner Bros. signed a deal with HUGE deal with Imax that I think took effect last year to show 20 WB films in Imax and Imax 3D. They essentially knocked most of the competition out in this arena for the their big summer blockbusters and for movies like Gravity and Interstellar for at least the next five years. It was a gamble, but has paid off big time with Gravity and Godzilla. I wish Fox would make some moves like that, but until they do or change their marketing game, they will not compete with the likes of Warner Bros and Disney which own blockbuster season.

Well, I am glad I kept my thread vote here conservative at $500 million since I believe now that's where this is gonna end up. But who knows? I'm still hoping for $700M and up!
