Yep it's quite stupid. Apparently the Chinese audience moves on to new blockbusters really quickly so the cinemas assume they have to replace the old movies completely with the new ones.
As a Chinese ,I will tell you that you are wrong. That's because Chinese want to protect local film. When this policy doesn't extist,Titanic rank NO1 in China for 20weeks at least.Avatar has privilige to prolong its running time.It ranks No1 in China for 10weeks.

Well I got that info from another Chinese too. But that policy thing you're saying makes more sense. Thanks for the insight :)

DOFP may have the 4rd position at the most grossing WW movies of 2014, following Transformers, Hobbit 3 and Mockingjay. I dont see more movies between 700 and 1 bilion this year.

X-men and Lord rings/hobbit sagas are my favourite, so i'm happy. I like Hunger games very much also, so i'm fine.

I hated Transformers..

Interstellar couldbe the Gravity or Inception of this year. Dawn of Apes has the whole month for itself, its coming out in July 9 in my country though I dont think it will outgross all cb films. I see Big Hero performing like Wreck it Ralph but not like Frozen. Ninja Turtles could be a surprise hit but it wont be as big Dofp. So maybe top 5 worldwide is possible.

What I'm worried is North America, it will go down to top 5 in July. Malificent will outgross it soon which is very disapointing to me. And at best Dofp will land in top 8. I'm just hoping there wont be more films that will outgross Dofp in North America.

Im Glad for XMEN DOFP and the X-Franchise in general. Good to be in the A+ League finally.

Well deserved. X-DOFP is one of the best ComicBook movies of all time no doubt.

713mil is amazing so far.
Ultimately it will finish between n58 all time WW - UP (731 mil) and n59 all time WW - Gravity (716 mil) making it the new n59 movie of all time.
*it has a slim chance of getting past UP aswell. if it can manage to crawl up to 500 mil OS and 235mil DOM. Fingers Crossed*
btw my 1st prediction was 230mil DOM & 515mil OS with 745mil WW. I got pretty close. Plus i was the first to boldly say 700+ mil WW was a LOCK. :)

p.s. X-DOFP will be the 5th movie of the year.
Trans4ormers
The Hobbit pt 3
Hunger Games Mockingjay are the only guaranteed movies to beat the XMEN while one of the below Dawn of Apes , Guardians OTG , Interstellar might beat them too but not all three.

so n1 comic book movie of the year and 5th movie in 2014 is pretty neat! GO XMEN.
Cant wait for Apocalypse.

They will do two more and keep upping it with somethig. Then reboot with a new direction and team. Once Unicron hits that will be the Bayformer end game. He's their eqivilant to Thanos, Galactus, Apocaylpse etc. Bay can't go bigger then that.

The crazy thing is how these franchises can basically make their cash back over seas now. If X-Men, Transformers or whatever gets an underwhelming domestic performance (which I don't think will ever happen to crippling lengths for these two) they can still turn a hefty profit. Especially with how well both those series play to China and other territories. Just gonna get bigger for both.
Probably true. I thought I was finished with them for a while but dinobots will get me back and Unicron would get me back for a sequel. Yeah, if you have the huge action set pieces in a big established franchise you are kind of insured against complete failure as you are always going to do reasonably in certain overseas markets even when the US & Europe have had their fill.

Made just over 1mil yesterday. Probably our last 1mil day from here on out. :)

With three wide releases this Wednesday, movies like DOFP and EoT could be hit hard with the theaters/screen loss.

I could see some of the theaters keeping DoFP on a reduced schedule (ie two showings a day), but, yeah, space needs to be made for these openings. It's definitely going to take a big hit.

DoFP is returning to my local cinema in 3D for three days this week, before Transformers arrives. Chance to see it one more time!

I have requests from friends to stil see DoFP and even TWS this week, so I'll be contributing a bit.

I never really go out of my way to see Transformers and it's not that I hate on it, it's just not my thing. However if enough friends wanted me to go with them to see it I would.

Even with the loss of theaters/screens I still think it will have enough juice to do a little over 230mil total.

Transformers 4 Studio lied about domestic gross! I just find that so funny. Glad people are calling them out on it tho.

They did?

Yep, It's finally being called out by Deadline and Box Office Mojo and etc. Studio says it did 100,000,038. But in reality it did about 98 million. So they lied over 2 million which is just embarrassing. It still would have been the #1 Domestic of the year. So they must have just really wanted that 100 million number. And wanted to proclaim an over 300,000,000 million worldwide weekend. Would have been 299 million with the 98 million domestic gross.

Whatever grabs you a headline, but it is so unprofessional it is beyond belief. Leave nothing passed Hollywood of course.

Every franchise film has under performed this year in some respect. We are seeing greater quantity but the quality just hasn't been there. It's been the flavor of same old. Another meh Spidey movie, an impressive but standard flare X-flick, another live action fairy tale adaptation, remakes.

The only real gold chip stock the industry has going for it right now is at Disney, and it starts with Star Wars and the Avengers slate, but even those are no longer proven commodities in terms of expectations. I can't predict that Star Wars 7 will do Avengers type money when it has every bit the potential to. Call it unreasonable, but yeah, those are the numbers I'd expect from a 2015 Star Wars film.

Time will tell, and we will see which major studio implodes first. And I firmly believe some big boys will be leaving the table within the decade.

Man, I couldn't disagree more. The quality IS there. It's been a great year for movies.

I assume there reasoning Behind this has to be people seeing the 300. I'll assume they think it will get more people to take a look at the film. Sort of like the used car mentality but in reverse. If a person sees 2.99$ vs 3.00$ people look at the 2.99$ item more. They inflated for people to see the big 300 million. I am just happy this didn't happen to XMEN, we would never here the end of it. Imagine hearing the XMEN number were doctored for years to come.

Lego Movie, The Raid 2, Grand Budapest Hotel, Edge Of Tomorrow, Snowpiercer, Winter Soldier, Days Of Future Past , Under The Skin, Only Lovers Left, 22 Jump Street, How To Train your Dragon, Joborowsky's Dune....

There's a huge variety of films this year. And alot of them are extremely well received, well reviewed or both.

It's been deeper than most other years, but I'm not seeing quality. I don't want to go by the critics, but what film has been raved besides DoFP? Maybe I am reaching if I expect rave reviews for summer tent poles, but we haven't had that GREAT film. But those films don't come buy too often. You get a Dark Knight or Avengers once a decade if you are lucky. Maybe we've been spoiled a bit, and we are just seeing a standard Hollywood quarter. But no, I don't see anything "great" this summer. I loved X-Men, but most people I talked to haven't even gotten around to see it yet. I guess Apocalypse is where Fox will have to get the payoff.
