Transformers has massive event film action scenes. It's going to be very hard to beat overseas by comics films outside of team films with similar level action. Domestic fatigue will have to occur eventual though, I can't see Transformers 8 doing quite as well in US.

Look at this way guys: X-Men will likely end up being one highest rated movies critically, more than likely the highest critically rated comic book movie, and will most likely be in the top five grossing movies of 2014 WW. That's AWESOME!

They will do two more and keep upping it with somethig. Then reboot with a new direction and team. Once Unicron hits that will be the Bayformer end game. He's their eqivilant to Thanos, Galactus, Apocaylpse etc. Bay can't go bigger then that.

The crazy thing is how these franchises can basically make their cash back over seas now. If X-Men, Transformers or whatever gets an underwhelming domestic performance (which I don't think will ever happen to crippling lengths for these two) they can still turn a hefty profit. Especially with how well both those series play to China and other territories. Just gonna get bigger for both.

Exactly!

Deadline:

X-Men: Days Of Future Past may have lost the 2014 international opening record to Age Of Extinction this weekend, but it is still mutating in 39 markets. The weekend box office was $6.18M for an overseas total of $491.3M. That takes the franchise’s total worldwide box office above $3B. In Venezuela, which was DOFP’s final market to release, it was No. 1 with $1.74M, a 5% drop for a cume of $5.14M.

Only dropped 5% in Venezuela. Cap 2 was only at 4.95m after its 3rd weekend. Should likely go past 10m easily.

DOFP may have the 4rd position at the most grossing WW movies of 2014, following Transformers, Hobbit 3 and Mockingjay. I dont see more movies between 700 and 1 bilion this year.

X-men and Lord rings/hobbit sagas are my favourite, so i'm happy. I like Hunger games very much also, so i'm fine.

I hated Transformers..

Interstellar, possibly Apes.

Strange how despite the quality the transformers movies always seem to make big money

Quantity is not always quality.

I think you take a dump in a box and slap Transformers on it and people would still be interested.

When you talk about high box office receipts and low critical rating, Transformers seems to be the poster child.

It's four movies in without a fresh rating but it has always had high cinemascores minus ROTF, people know what to expect and the majority like it. Same GA crowd for X-Men and Cap here.

And yet ROTF which is only 2% better rating at RT, is the highest grossing TF movie at $400 million.

Cause of part 1. Very much like X2 and X3 or SPider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3.

Transformers has its audience, it is the definition of mindless entertainment. You know what to expect when you buy your ticket and even if the plot is not there, the robots in action can still entertain. I am just happy that DOFP made over 700 million WW and will give some confidence and some drive to FOX to make Apocalypse even better.

The goal imo was to be the highest grossing comic book movie worldwide this year!

It accomplished that unless GOTG blows up which i doubt it will. Even with the 10 variant covers for each Rocket Racoon #1 Comic and Legendary Star Lord #1 comic. So of course it's possible it could blow up given how hard Marvel is promoting the movie.

My point is..I never once thought DOFP would be the highest grossing movie worldwide this year. The fact that it got to #1 worldwide at any point this year is something. IMO. So I'm happy with what it's done. We just need to wait and see with GOTG does worldwide.

I had such lower aspirations. I thought this movie was going to be bad and was just hoping it was going to be good. :o

Before TASM2 and X: DOFP came out, I said I'd only go see either if they get stellar reviews. Well one did and one didn't.

Thankfully XMA will up the "spectacle" aspect. That, plus the good will DoFP had brought, should help us have the best BO numbers yet, overseas AND domestically.

Let's just hope they don't sacrifice story.

Those two things along with a possible stronger advertised roster will = a ****load of money.

Originally when Kinberg said how Apoc is going to be a disaster movie I was worried we would be getting a MOS type thing where as much as I liked that film it was unessescary disaster.

Then I thought about how singer only uses powers and things in a human way to tell the story so I wasn't worried.

Then the old script for DOFP popped up and my nerves about Kinberg came back, then I thought about Harris and Dougherty joining ( :D ) and then I thought about Kinberg and X3... So I just don't know how I feel anymore. Still positive about Singer and the 2 x2 writers but Kinberg is still giving me nerves.

Depending on GOTG it looks like as well as being the highest rated DOFP will be the highest grossing Superhero movie this year :)

I had a feeling DOFP would be highest rated on RT, but I never thought an X-Men movie could beat a Spidey movie for the worldwide BO.

Im so happy for the franchise. 3 quality movies in a row, all 3 in my top 10 greatest superhero movies of all-time. Hopefully, X-Men Apocalypse will continue the trend.

The thing about Kingberg though is that he is the current writer that has probably read most X-Men stories. He was the one who pitched the X-Men Days of future storyline to FOX and co. I am sure he has read Age of Apocalypse as well since he has mentioned it in past interviews how X-Men: Apocalypse will be taking some elements from Age of Apocalypse. As long as we have Singer and his writers there to polish and help write the script then I will not worry.

Can't get over that overseas number. FOX is also the highest grossing studio of the year.
