Actually i can compare the OS opening of those movies.

XDOFP opened much later than CAP2 TWS and TASM2 so we had all the numbers of all terretories for the above mantioned movies.

I made a comparison before.

The actual OS opening weekend including all markets for these movies are:

X-DOFP - 177 mil
TASM2 - 174 mil
CAP2 TWS - 138,5 mil

Transformers 4 i dont have the actual number but im pretty sure its very north of 200 mil due to China alone.

all data is available at boxofficemojo WHICH is pretty lazy making TRUE SUMS and lists opening weekends OS with only the 1st markets that opened at the very first 3 days which is dumb cause OS markets opened with weeks and some times months apart.
But u can still add up the numbers by yourself to see the actual grosses. (with a minor issue cause 2-3 markets dont have data for opening weekends but u can guess that number by comparing similar markets and total grosses and so u get a number that is 96-99% accurate)

Not entirely true. You don't think it also had something to do with opening $12M less than X3? From DOFP's start, the franchise was already weaker at opening than it was when X3 came out. That is undeniable after seeing the numbers.

So maybe partially true in that if the second weekend had a less successful movie opening then DOFP could have done better, but the big hit was right there at day one.
 
DOFP would have definitely earned more even if its just 1 to 2 million if it didn't have two blockbuster films opening before and after its release. And us fans, don't have to worry if it will outgross X3 or not.
 
Do you guys think Guardians of the Galaxy will beat X-men DOFP worldwide?
 
GoTG beating DOFP is possible but unlikely.

Guardians will make 700-725 mil WW.

about 275 mil DOM
and 425 mil OS

Maleficent doesnt look like beating DOFP either.
The gap is still holding. im guessing a 1-2.5 mil difference for XDOFP.
 
GOTG does have the benefit of a guaranteed run in IMAX 3D, good word-of-mouth and little big competition in the next few weeks.

Also, keep in mind that DOFP's international box office run is not over yet. Here in my country it is still been played in 2 cinemas (with one showing a day) until at least next Wednesday. I've also done a few random searches and found that it's still been shown at cinemas in Germany, Belgium, Spain, England, Scotland and i 'm sure more around the world.

I agree we don't have to worry about it, but it would be very satisfying if it did. It still might!!!

Nope. During DOFP's 2nd weekend, it already earned $500 million while GOTG earned less than $350 million on its 2nd weekend. Its also opening in China really late.

DoFP had opened in every market on it's second weekend. Guardians still hasn't opened in all of Europe and of course China.
 
Early weekend estimates from boxoffice.com put this at $231,000. That is a -17% drop from last weekend. Pretty good. Probably had a few dollar theaters added this week.

True. There are still four major markets in Germany. Japan, China and Italy. It still has to hit some other places too.
 
Just been to see GoTG for the first time. Quite a few people in the cinema, so clearly it's holding on okay.

But I (and other half) were a bit disappointed in it, considering all the hullabaloo and hoopla about it.

Gabbling and meaningless dialogue, comedy that often didn't work (needed a comedy writer from a good American sitcom to sharpen it up), overcomplicated plot nodding at Marvel lore all over the place, soundtrack that could have been much better, no real weight to the story. I blame the script as the primary cause. And the end-credits scene was rubbish.

On the plus side, Groot was great, Chris Pratt is watchable and quite sexy, the cosmic visuals were stunning. But it was all a bit unengaging.

Among the Marvel Studios movies, Avengers was far better (the comedy really crackled in that with great lines/timing), Iron Man movies are better. And DoFP is far better than GoTG too.

Maleficent turned out to be the biggest hit to the X-Men, more so than Godzilla and Spider-Man. I don't care though since 745 is very good for this franchise. It needed some growth after First Class only did about 300+ million. Apocalypse should put some focus on bringing that domestic number up.
 
Once Maleficent shown more legs than most summer films it outgrossing DOFP was coming.While looking at RT It's disappointing that while both critics and audences like was much lower than DOFP It had better legs and made more money.GOTG By friday may outgross DOFP domesticly but at least that has a bit more like by critics and audences.That doesn't hurt as much as maleficent's success.It would also hurt if TMNT with it's liked numbers also outgross DOFP.

GOTG may outgross DOFP WW too.The best DOFP can hope for in best case sceniro is number 6 WW.Transformers already outgrossed it.Maleficent Is about to.GOTG may still do it.And the next hungar games and final Hobbit may do it.

Apocalypse still has firce competing.It opens 3 weeks after Cap3.The alice In
Wonderland sequel opens same day and now the TMNT sequel Is opening a
week later.It loses the combination of both OT and FC casts.That and all the competion leaves question marks on Domestic gross even If it well liked by critics and audences like DOFP was.
 
The biggest gains for Apocalypse will be overseas. If the film is great then 850 - 950 m WW is possible. Plenty of momentum coming off DoFP.

I thought X-DOFP willl win by a couple of millions.

Sadly it seems Maleficent will instead. I guess Japan really gave it the boosted it needed.

What the hell is wrong with audiences ?
I understand TASM2 making 707 mil WW cause its a Spidey film but for an unknown property without that much of quality to make all that money...
I wanna puke.
