Deathstroke Solo Movie

Joe Manganiello on the status of the Deathstroke movie

"I say it's in the works," Manganiello responded. "Because it is and there's nothing further. I can't say without speaking out of school. Cause, you know, I'm a part of a team, I'm a part of a locker room, you don't talk outside the locker room. But all I can say, for the hardcore fans, it's in the works. They want it, they want the character to happen, it's just when he happens."

I think WB should get on this in the next few years. It will be a cheap film to make compared to many others.

Just recast him with a stuntman, never remove his helmet, and have Keith David dub him.

what's wrong with Joe....

He’s not that much of an actor. He’s not intimidating at the least. He’s not even old enough to be Slade. At least someone in his early 60s would be good instead of obvious hair coloring.

I’d be fine if this movie never saw the light of day.

There's nothing wrong with Joe; I'd say he's perfect for the role. He's shown to be intimidating (watch True Blood) and he certainly looks the part; all beefy and that. This could be a cheap success by WB if they got it right - it wouldn't cost too much to do, and the character is a fan favourite.

Heck, if they do it right, casual viewers will go and watch it too.

You must be a young guy. Because speaking as a guy north of 40 who has always taken care of myself, I can almost buy the possibility of a green Lantern Corp before I can buy a 60+ year old who looks like how Slade is drawn.

If they keep the director sure.

Guys... Slade is NOT an old man.

The white hair is not indicative of his age. Let's go through the time line from when he was first introduced:

Slade lies abou his age to enlist so he is already younger than he should rightfully be as a character. He premieres in the year 1980 as a character that had served in the tail end of the Korean War and served in Special Forces in Vietnam. So as he was conceived by Wolfman and Perez he could not be even close to 50 much less older. Slade at his oldest could be maybe mid 40's if that in 1980.

As shown in both NEW TEEN TITANS and his original solo title the white hair seems to be a result of the serum experiment that gave him his super human abilities as after his hair gradually began to lighten until it became that distinguished white we all know. Look also a this the ages of Slades sons. Jericho is a "Teen Titan" after all. All the evidence points to Deathstroke actually being an experienced combat vet in his 40's despite the white hair and beard that makes him look older.

And there are plenty of people who go gray at a young age. Joe himself has gray in his hair and beard already. I hope this movie gets made because I love Evans as a director and I think Joe is solid casting. Though I hope that they don't give him that stupid Colonel Sanders look that he had at the end of Justice League; just let him go with his natural graying look for his hair and beard.

Also, how is a guy as jacked as Joe "not intimidating in the least"? Seriously, I'd love to see you walk up to him and call him the P-word.

I do think Slade works better with an actor who is 40 or older; it helps to give off the impression that he's seen some ****. If the film does end up going into production and Joe is unavailable, Frank Grillo would be another good (and affordable) choice. Although I'm not sure WB would want to work with him after those (accurate) comments he made about BvS, haha.

Screen presence has a lot more going on than just physicality the actor has. Classic Clint's Eastwood is no where near as jacked as Joe but he's WAY more intimidating than Joe has ever been on screen in anything even as an older man in stuff like HEARTBREAK RIDGE, UNFORGIVEN or GRAND TOURINO.

I would totally agree with that but I'd still say Joe has an intimidating presence.

If true then this has become the DC movie I am most looking forward to.

Absolutely. I pretty much loathed JL but I liked that post-credits scene (although I still think a better line would have been "Shouldn't we be in a League of our own?"). This has the potential to be one of my all-time favourite DC movies. Please WB, don't screw it up...

I really hope this happens with Gareth.

Same I have almost no interest in this movie. Never wanted him as the villain of The Batman either. He’s not a Batman villain IMO. Reserve Deathstroke for a Titans or Nightwing movie. Then have him be in the Legion of Doom

Mario Robles thinks that they should make him the villain in SS2

I’m not too worried about where he shows up as long as we get to see him at some point.

I'd love a DS solo, but as you say, so long as we get him featured at some point I'll be happy

I don’t like Deathstroke as a Batman villain but he definitely should be the villain of a Nightwing movie
