The Dark Knight Rises Depp to play the Riddler and Hoffman to be Penguin?

Does anybody remember how early we got Ledger as Joker rumors?

It's also that Nolan hasn't already decided if he'll come back (and this time I believe his hesitation is real, not a coy, like after BB was released). Plus, the articles mention that those names (Jolie, Depp, Hoffman) have already been decided by others and not Nolan.

Probably a month or two before they started shooting if I remember correctly. We were dealing with Bettany/Hulme wars for months on end, and then suddenly, next thing we knew, Ledger was named out of the blue. Though to be fair, he was rumored to be in the running for Batman shortly after Nolan took on the project. Nolan and Ledger apparently met up for lunch one day, and that's how those rumors began. So it's entirely possible Ledger was, in fact, Nolan's choice for the role before Batman Begins even started filming.

I like welcoming the newbs into the forums! Alot of times they are flamed because they're new.

As for the campaign thing, the Political Forum is hosting a HYPE Presidential election to be held in early August. It's like the national election, but without all the mudslinging and dirty tactics. It's all in good fun. You should visit the PF! I don' think I've seen you in there before! :yay:

Wait, are you running now? What happened to JMan?

Wait, are you running now? What happened to JMan?

As you know, StorminNorman and JmanSpice won their respective primary elections. Norm approached me about being his VP, and I accepted. Jman, unfortunately, pulled out for personal reasons. :csad:

Our campaign announcement, and Jman's campaign update are posted in the political forums.

I don't think we'll know anything before next summer. First of all, we're still waiting for Warner Bros to announce the third Batman for 2011, or whatever year they want. Rememberg - in 2005 Jeff Robinov announced that The Dark Knight would be a priority for 2008. Let's wait for a statement about the sequel and Chris Nolan (hopefully) returning first!

In a recent interview Jonathan Nolan said he wrote the first draft by the end of 2005, and we didn't even know he was on board as writer until spring of '06.

I think it would be interesting to see Depp as The Riddler and you know it will be good because Nolans doing it, every villian he has put on screen so far are the best interpretations possible and Hoffman as the Penguin, thats genius, this guy could play an amazing Penguin.

So does this mean Tim Burton will return as the director? :woot:

Well rumors are rumors... but we all know this is total BS... I doubt Nolan even knows who the villains will be let alone casting for them.

I'm pretty sure he has a general idea.

NO!! I don't want to see Depp in a Batman movie. I'm not a fan of his. Plus I don't want to see Riddler.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

The Riddler maybe. As far as Depp.....eh.

But NOT THE PENGUIN. I think Hoffman would be an amazing choice, but I do not want to see the Penguin in any Batman film ever again.

If they go with Hoffman and put the Nolan spin on the character, making him an Arms Dealer who is in conflict with Wayne and Wayne Enterprises, and they use the Penguin in the same way they used the Scarecrow in Batman Begins or The Dark Knight or the Rutger Hauer character in BB, with the focus on two other characters, then I'd be ok with it. But if they make him a lead I don't know.

Hoffman great choice. Depp.....? (as in i don't know)

Depp a big YES as Riddler.....but Hoffman is a big no for me.

I would rather see Bob Hoskins play the seedy underground arms dealer or mob boss/club owner than Hoffman. Hoskins is already there physically and he can keep his cockney Brit accent for the role as well. It would add to it IMO. His role would be more like Dr Cranes in BB, as more of a minor supporting character. It would add to it IMO.

An in shape Jolie, Portman, or Winslet would be good choices for Seline Kyle/Catwoman.

Are you serious??

Seeeing Depp in a Batman movie would be a dream come true! :hehe:

Exactly....but I don't agree with Hoffman. I would rather see Hoskins as Oswald.

Johnny Depp as the Riddler that would def make my day! I love Depp and if there is anyone that would do the series justice it would be him, because he has the capability to do as well if not better than Heath-both great actors really take their characters to the next level, not just read what's on the page but pushes their motives how they would be, how they walk, move, act if they were real people=love it. Please Nolan give us Depp, please Depp except.

Has anyone noticed a trend surrounding the Batman franchise after the Dark Knight's ridiculously impressive success?

Attention has already turned to the third movie and all people are talking about is which A-list stars are going to be playing which roles. You can feel the money-lust eminating from WB headquarters. They don't care about story and they don't care about integrity, they just want to keep the hype machine moving along. After Batman Returns all of the talk was which stars would be playing which villains. There was no idea of how the story should move forward or if it needed to fit with the previous movies at all... it was all about keeping the hype at a maximum level.

Nolan *needs* to stay on this franchise, because mark my words, if he leaves the whole thing is just going to degenerate into "cast the stars!" Already there is talk of Depp for Riddler, Jolie for Catwoman and Phillip-Seymour Hoffman for the Penguin. Does the studio even care if Nolan wants those characters or not? Does anyone even care that the storyline hasn't been developed before going bat-**** crazy with casting fever? Hopefully Nolan has earned his balnk-cheque and will do what he sees fit for the next installment.

Theres not even a script yet, and isn't it the director and producers who choses who gets cast? They studios might just be talking to them, but that doesn't mean Nolan would cast them.
