Yeah, I hear what you are saying, Dexter and Brian knew that what they were doing was wrong BUT they could not stop because they were mentally incapable of doing so. Call it a "dark passenger" or maybe even something demonic, they had to kill.

That is still not insanity, the legal definition of which is very strict.

If somebody is mentally incapable of not killing then the law is designed to remove them from society.

it does feel weird having it in the summer.

It feels really weird. We might even get hit with a trifecta of awesomeness with Dexter, True Blood and Breaking Bad on at least one nite. Maybe. That new show Ray Donovan premiering after Dexter seems like it'll be good. I watched the premiere the other day and it sets up what seems like is going to be something really cool
