that's a great read, lots of things I didn't think about, but now seeing the gifs and the writer remembering a lot of stuff, it does make a lot of sense...

That is a great article, and I have this strange mixture of understanding and anger, because it shows the power of some characters' stories over the survival of others.

It makes me hate Laurel in the same way Shado's death made me hate Oliver and especially Slade: One interesting character was rubbed out in order to fast track the transformation of another.

In the end I think it all hinges on who your favourite character is, and therefore who you want to see more of both forwards and backwards (in a show as flashback heavy as this).

In the end, Arrow is the story of Green Arrow first, Black Canary second and Star City third. Nothing else matters, and if your favourite character doesn't fit with this end goal, or their death services it, then they are doomed no matter how popular they are.

Felicity is relatively safe, due to the fact that she is both the most popular character (possibly tied with Oliver) and that her death would serve no purpose. Slade was safe, because Deathstroke is a staple of almost every non-powered DC hero's Rogue gallery. Moira was always doomed because Ollie is an orphan, Sara was doomed because Dinah has no family and Laurel needed a reason to change. Shado was doomed because Slade had no reason to hate Oliver.

We don't see as much of Felicity and Diggle (or even Roy)'s roots or development because they aren't as important in the lens that the show gives us. Sadly, when a show is focused on a character rather than a setting, you will always have the focus fixed without any real leeway to shift it elsewhere for long.

Wow that was a GREAT review of everything that has happened with Laurel and makes total sense. I think everyone should read that.

Though I want Laurel Lance to die in the alley and Dinah Laurel Lance to come out of it.

Shado should've been written a lot better since she's a very important character in the Green Arrow mythos, DC was wrong to let them kill her off, it was unnecessary. Slade needed a stronger, logical reason to hate Oliver, like him leaving Slade behind to save himself or something. Thank goodness Manu Bennett did a great job with the character.

I can see Dinah Laurel form the Justice Society of America with Ted Grant or Birds of Prey with Huntress.

Typical Tumblr fangirl. "The show can do no wrong, it must be the way I perceive it that is wrong."

I felt nothing at Sara's death. No anger, no sadness. I really liked that character, and I have gotten proper depressed at character deaths in other shows before. But this didn't feel earned. It just felt like a plot device to continue to force a character nobody likes down our throats. The writers messed up and their attitudes don't seem to be changing anytime soon.

They already had a Black Canary that was well established, interesting, likable and played by a good actress but they sacrificed that to create something they already had with a character that, so far, is consistently unlikable, poorly written and spottily acted. So their chances of success at regaining what they already had are not high.

Thank you for finding that post. It's a perfect summation of why I've been - and continue to be - a Laurel fan, although I do disagree with the writer on a couple of points, particularly as it concerns Oliver/Laurel. I firmly believe - based on things that the producers have said - that Oliver and Laurel will end up together in the end, but that everything that's happened - and that will end up happening - is part of the journey of getting to that point, and it's going to be incredibly satisfying once it happens because we will have seen the two characters 'earn' their life together and become the people they need to be in order to have a life together.

Yep a scene showing Laurel’s strength and sisterly love is removed, while other crap is kept.

This is a quote from when Cassidy first joined Supernatural, showing how dedicated she was all the way back then
I've been kickboxing for about six weeks now," Cassidy says.

She sticks out her hand and shows a good-sized scrape on one knuckle.

"This is actually my first boxing injury," she says. "It's healed a lot. It's kind of exciting. I'm eventually going to be kickboxing in heels."

Thanks for the videos. You can see her hapiness when talking about not crying so much anymore and being more and the action, lol

I don't know, to be really honest, I don'r really want her with Oliver. In fact, so far I don't want any of the current girls on the show to be with Oliver. Laurel and him have too much of a backstory, Sara it's not an option now and I do like Felicity but I like her as his friend who sometimes checks how hot he is but that's it, I liked her more with Barry Allen and even with Ray Palmer. I'm waiting to see how Laurel and Ted will interact too....
