So OUAT ...they're going all Elsa on this. Desperate much?

After the Wicked Witch disaster ...poor Elsa will probably be Snow's evil Cousin they have to redeem. Meh!

I just hate to see one of my fav Disney characters getting destroyed on this show. :cmad:

There's nothing desperate. They are doing well and wish to do better, by following up on their successes with peter pan and the wicked witch.

I think 'Once upon a Time' is going to do Elsa justice there is an interview over on the Once threads that have the creators acknowledge her as misunderstood and wanting to do that justice. That said however I think when we first see her she will be more "Snow Queen" then later in the season she'll be good. Rumple had her locked away in a place where he stored magic that even he couldn't understand so she probably won't be able to control her power. This could be great promo for a 3d blu-Ray if it gets released around fall.

I'm curious to see if they'll use Anna at some point as well.

So is Once Upon A Time basically a poor mans Fables? I remember Disney wanting the T.V rights for Fables but was unable to make it happen and they apparently just made OUAT instead.

If that's what you want to think about it? Sure. I can see that. It has the basic set up of FABLES but it has the limitations of budget and content that a show on network has. That being said, even the creators of FABLES have shot down the idea. Sometimes projects are just really similar. I mean... Does anyone say FABLES is just a gritty version of the old show THE CHARMINGS? (I kid, I kid... :woot:)

It's overall a good, quality night time soap using fantasy/fairy tale characters and I find it an entertaining hoot. YMMV though of course.

Cynical viewers will say yes. People who aren't consumed by the need to poo-poo everything in their path will say "not so much". Even Bill Willingham himself wrote a piece for judgemental Fables fans telling them to cool their jets...

Hmm interesting. Yeah, I've never seen the show but I know I've heard some Fables fans call it that. I've always thought that it looks pretty interesting. I'll have to check it out myself.

I just started watching it (just finished episode 16) and it's quite good so far, in my opinion. I'd recommend it. :)

Yeah, I mean, as much as I love OUAT, there are some annoying little things they do, like feeling the need to form a family tree with so many of the characters, and there's the occasional needless filler episode, but when they're good, they're really good. The two hour finale last night was great and the season two episode "Manhattan" is one of my favorite episodes I've ever seen of anything.

Overall the show is much more straightforward Disney fantasy (even with it's share of twists) than Fables is.

Hmmm, yeah I just read the synposis and it sounds nothing like Fables aside from "fairy tale characters living in the real world under anonymity". That's it. The overall plot is completely different.

Shoot, during the first season, most of the fairy tale characters don't even know they were fairy tale characters.

I read an interview with the showrunners where they said that:

1. They love Frozen.

2. Their kids are obsessed with it.

3. One of their favorite things about Frozen was that Elsa WASN'T a villain. She was merely misunderstood.

So I seriously doubt that they're going to go full-on villain with her. It may be a somewhat darker version than Disney did, at least initially, but I don't see them making her just evil given their comments. Also, as a side-not, Kristen Bell has said that she'd love to come back if asked.

I don't watch OUAT, but I will definitely check out the Frozen episodes in the next season. I hope they will cast the right actress to play Elsa, and I can just imagine the pressure for the producers to pick the actress since it's going to be scrutinized endless thanks to the popularity of the movie.

I think the show's casting is usually fairly on point. Joanna Garcia is pretty much a Disney Princess come to life anyway, so she worked out well as Ariel. Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White was pitch perfect. Naveen Andrews being Jafar in the spinoff was great. Robbie Kay, the kid who played Peter Pan, was great as that character, even if [blackout]the show's Peter Pan was a villain[/blackout]. The list goes on.

Look I get that people love Frozen but seriously, bringing Elsa to life on TV this soon? C'mon, this is overkill.

No one's putting a gun to your head.

I disagree; I think it's the perfect time since Frozen is still hot and people wanted to see what a live-action Elsa would look like. Why wait until the fervor over the movie has died down?

I wonder if Frozen can make it to IM3. I didn't think it would, but it keeps on chugging along.

There's absolutely no doubt about passing IM3, it's just a matter of when now.
Frozen was less than 24m away as of Sunday and did around 1.9m more for Mon-Tuesday, down a mere 9% from 2 weeks ago (the last normal week before Golden Week). The rest of this week should be another 3.5m followed by a 6.5m-7m weekend.
At this pace it will pass IM3 around May 28 I'd say, definitely before the month ends.

It's milking the cow, but it's not overkill. The idea sounds interesting, but didn't Once Upon a Time also do a Maleficent that looked nothing like Maleficent?
