if strange is going to lead the next wave of heroes...he has to have the charisma that rdj had starting off this wave. it needs to be a big time actor so you can see why depp was initally thought of. i think they have to go with cumberbatch since he's a big name now. but i don't think hiring a not so big household name will cut it. strange is the key for future films.

Is Cumberbatch a big name though outside of the fanboy community though? I'm serious here. I know Sherlock is popular, but there are a sh**-ton of people out there who have never seen it. And while Star Trek 2 made a lot of money, I'm not sure it really established him as a household name.

i somewhat agree. he might not be big enough. but in fairness, rdj was known but was a bit of an afterthought before iron man came out.

I mean, i don't think popularity has been a deterrent to Marvel when it comes to casting. I think Cumberbatch is more popular or as popular as Chris Evans was prior to Cap and definitely more popular than Hemsworth, Hiddleston and Chris Pratt were. If they think he's perfect for Strange, his popularity or lack thereof wont be an issue.
