Even though it's looking more and more like it's really happening, I'm still in disbilief of Phoenix playing Strange. It's just such an amazing thing.

My understanding is they want Doctor Strange to be a tentpole film up there as essentially the new Iron Man (the new premiere Marvel film). Given this, there's no question they want him for his own set of movies as well as for a set of Avengers films. If I had to guess, the magic number they'd like is six. The minimum number they'd want is two (one Dr. Strange, one Avenger film). But a recast would be a bigger blow here than it would be with Banner or Rhodey or Fandral (who, if I didn't know who the other actor was, I honestly wouldn't have noticed the change).

I guess then it would depend on how much of a role Marvel would want Strange to have in the Avengers franchise. I would think just an appearance in A3 with the other two or three being solo films would work, but Marvel may feel differently.

I'm on board with Phoenix. Was hoping for Cumberbatch, but if the movie is more horror oriented, i prefer Joaquin.

I'm really thinking they should definitely go with a very horror vibe. This movie should be a psychedelic horror fantasy

If they were to go with an eccentric Doc Strange I still feel Johnny Depp would best be suited to saying crap like BY THE HOARY HOAST OF HOGGOTH and have us believe in it, but Phoenix has a creepy intensity about him that would make is Strange very intriguing.

I don't think he needs to be an Avenger, but I think he is certainly being set up for a role in Avengers 3 to assist with the final battle. More concerning to me would be whether or not we could get a Midnight Sons movie out of Phoenix.
