My feeling is that it better get all it can in the first 2 weeks because on week 3 Fantastic Beasts debuts and DS is gonna take a big hit. Wish we had 1 more week without that kind of competition.

Beasts is actually tracking below DS before release, and has very little buzz behind it. It'll make a dent in the European market, but China and domestic impact will be minimal.

You prolly know more about this stuff than I do, but I have a feeling it's going to take a big bite on our turf (NA). You would expect DS to be around, what, maybe low-mid $20Ms during it's 3rd weekend?

God I like this thread better than the T-Rump thread. It's like being on vacation as opposed to being at work. :thud:

A well deserved opening.

Let's hope the upcoming competition doesn't do too much damage moving forward.

It reminds me a little bit of when GotG came out. The estimates kept going up and up very close to the opening.

85 mil is awesome considering the OW competition of Trolls and Hacksaw Ridge. Those are two well received movies and one is a kids flick. To get 85 with that competition is great. It's probably the stiffest competition a CBM has had this year on OW

Not surprised the estimates for OW keep going up. Everyone I know seems to have loved it and thought it was better than they ever expected. That's called good word of mouth, which equals escalating box office estimates.

Very true. I thought about that earlier, but sort of pushed it to the back of my mind recently.

:up:Happy to see the big dom OW.

Not bad. I feel like if trolls hadn't been released it would have made more.

Now who thinks this will beat Thor2's OW after the actuals come in tomorrow?

Doctor Strange is doing notably well in 3D, with RealD reporting this morning that 47% of its domestic revenue and 45% of its international revenue is coming from 3D screenings. The international figure is boosted by some exceptionally high numbers in a few markets: 100% of screenings in China are 3D, for example, and other countries with substantial 3D box office include Germany (89%), Brazil (80%), Russia (68%), and France (39%). It also earned $24.2 million in global IMAX revenue from 1,001 screens in 66 markets. It’s the first film ever to play in over 1,000 IMAX theaters in a single weekend, and breaks the November IMAX weekend record formerly held by Interstellar.

I remember people on this forum saying that 3D is so big outside of the US, but this actually got a slightly higher 3D percentage domestically than internationally.

Great to see it's going to blow my $400+ million guess out of the water. I was a bit worried it would be just too, well, strange for the GA. Happy to be wrong!

Thanks, man. Life just got busy and way too expensive the last couple months, so my moviegoing has been curtailed lately. Hopefully I can get back in the swing now...

Double where it's at now WW and I'd say that's the minimum this will make. $650m WW.

So we get the actuals tomorrow. Any predictions for week 2? I'm thinking 35-40 million.

$85 million is well above initial projections. Also, it's a freaking Doctor Strange movie.

He's never been an A-list Marvel character.

A 50% drop is pretty common. Given the current estimate is $85M, very good word of mouth AND the fact that Veteran's Day is on Friday, I'd go north of $40M; maybe well north.

I suck at predictions and am almost always wrong so I'll leave reality to those who know better. Seriously...I suck at this.

If Strange opens higher then Fantastic Beast, that would be something.
