Duncan Jones' Warcraft - Part 1

Ah yes, the first sign that your movie is inferior; saying something about it is "better" than a similar movie that is almost universally revered.

Join us next week, when Travis Fimmel and Dominic Cooper take turns making fun of Star Wars!

Ha, good observation.

My point was why do it? What is the point? How often do you see a confident film say something like that?

It felt like he was saying it in jest, "except tougher, better looking, smarter, in every way better". I think the IGN clip didn't help by editing out his probably amused expression at the end.

I guess that is possible, but I didn't personally get that from it.

It's freaking hilarious to see people freaking out over something so simple yet true. The Orcs in the movie LOTR had no character, they we're just pawns of Sauron who did what he willed and in the movies some of them did the will of Saruman.

Just because something is liked by many, does not make it sacred from critisim, no matter how much the Internet would love to keep it's hivemind intact.

Its not really a criticism though. That's simply how the orcs work in that story. Also, by Return of the King they had some more individualized orc generals.

They were Sauron's (and Saruman's) pawns but they were extremely fun to watch.

Can you tell me their names without using google? :p The only memorable Orc general I can remember from ROTK was Gothmog, but I never thought he was an Orc in the books.

The point here is to demonstrate the Orcs in LOTR are by no means memorable, because they lacked character.

Lol an original character created by Jackson is the most memorable Orc from Tolkien's LOTR trilogy?

I'm talking about the movies specifically so I don't see what's the problem?

It just shows what Brown said was absolutely right.

To be fair, Brown did seem to be saying it in jest. And yeah, the orcs in LOTR are mostly pawns of Sauron or Saruman, but as others have already said, that's how they are intended. Many of them DO have personalities, however; although it's true that we don't spend a lot of time with them, we do get frequent looks into their savagery.

Now, I understand that Warcraft is trying to do something different here by having good and evil orcs and all that. And I sincerely DO hope they pull it off. But it can't be denied (at this point at least) that the footage we've seen so far has disappointed a lot of people. If the next trailer hits and it's met with the same response as the first one, and then some bad reviews hit later, it wouldn't surprise me if the studios will start throwing out TV spots with comments by little-known critics saying things like "MORE MAGICAL THAN LORD OF THE RINGS!" and "MORE AMAZING THAN STAR WARS!".

Again, I know that's NOT really what Clancy Brown was doing here, but if this movie does indeed turn out bad, I can see them going that route.

There are many reasons i want this film to be a financial and critical success, mainly for its sequel potential.

Film sequels based on the Lich King, the Cataclysm, the Sundering, the War of the Ancients, Pandaria, Warlords, Return of the Burning Legion.

Warcraft lore is incredibly vast and rich, the sequel potentials are amazing but it could all disappear if this film bombs, such a shame honestly :(

Gothmog was a cool orc. IMHO, there just doesn't seem to be much to talk about with this film other than scrutinizing a jokey offhand remark Clancy Brown made in a fluff piece.

Isn't that a problem within in itself? This movie is just sort of there?

Lurtz is the only orc I remember. Dude was a white-hand faced killah though.

I'm burnt on fantasy stuck in medievalism to be honest.

Since this films based on the first war, makes me wonder what iconic warcraft events we will see, will we see the Orcs drink the blood of Mannoroth? Will we see Sargeras convincing both Medivh of Azeroth and Gul'dan of Draenor using their magic to create a portal that connects their two worlds together thus resulting in the first Orcish invasion?

I really want to see a lot of iconic events take shape in this film.

Sound like Marketing might be ramping up soon?

Looks like the Castle Town portion of Stormwind near the front gates. :hmm

In fact speaking of the front gates, i absolutely cannot wait to see Duncan Jones take on the Valley of Heroes! :hmr: :hmr: :hmr: :hmr:

Duncan Jones take on the Valley of Heroes! :hmr: :hmr: :hmr: :hmr:

But then those would be either very legendary heroes or newly created characters. The Valley of Heroes in WoW shows veterans of WC1-2.
