Duncan Jones' Warcraft - Part 1

I still think they made a mistake by starting over from the beginning rather than with the far more popular Warcraft III/World of Warcraft timeframe with characters like Arthas, Jaina, Thrall, Sylvanas, and company.

It does look more like a Hobbit movie and not like the classic Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Now look, I could be wrong. But that's just the vibe I'm getting.

For another thing, I have no idea what's going on. Orcs are fighting humans. Orcs are fighting with humans. It doesn't fully establish the good orcs and bad orcs, and I think the audience is having trouble distinguishing them in these TV ads.

What is the threat to Azeroth? Why do the orcs and humans need to band together? I still really have no idea. I'm a gamer, but I've never really been in to Warcraft. I get that fans of Warcraft might understand and like what we are seeing. But how will an average moviegoer get it?

Just by comparison, watch an Avengers trailer. You know Loki is the bad guy. Loki is trying to take over the world. Heroes have to come together to stop him. I'm saying the ad campaign was able to get that across.

I'm not getting that from this film.

Yeah... I know you don't want to give everything away in a trailer, but it just seem really unclear what's going on here other than there are apparently good guys and bad guys on both sides.

If it is true to the game, then Lothar and Durotan are the main good guys and Gul'dan and Blackhand are the main villains.

Medivh had a villain role in the first game as well. I don't know if it'll be implemented or how they would put that whole situation in the film without making the film feel bloated. He has been confirmed to be in the film.

I don't see what you guys see, I think the film looks great and its obviously Azeroth to me. As a WC fan I am supremely happy but oh well.
So what you are saying is that the movie looks like a 10 year old game? I agree.

I get a feeling too that unless you are really into Warcraft, you might not like the movie. I hope that's not the case.

Maybe its cause I've played the games but nothing about the trailer is all that confusing. I normally don't cry about CGI in a film, I mean if it looks decent then it doesnt take me out of the story, but the complaints I'm hearing about the film sound more like whining and crying over spilled milk.

I'm looking at this as a WC fan and the environments and settings that I spent a good couple of years in are pretty much being realized on film and that has me giddy and will let me overlook some shortcomings, even if they really arent all that glaring.

Now if the story, plot and characters all suck then i'll be upset but the trailers are just giving us a taste of the world, an idea of the conflict and thats it. Dont have enough from it, I mean it IS just a trailer, to say it'll be horrible or unimpressive.

I feel like Blizzard could have put together a full-length CG-animated movie that would be better than what we're seeing from this live-action version. As a fan of Blizzard's in-game cinematics, I think they could have totally pulled off a great movie by themselves!

The trailer makes the movie look bland as hell, and lacks the character & atmosphere of any of Blizzard's in-game cinematics.

For the non-gamers, you can watch Blizzard's in-game cinematics here: [YT]dfkiJXnSRM8[/YT]

I saw the trailer for this in 3D when I watched TFA. Sweet Lord there was no subtlety at all.

I mentally pegged this as 'so bad it could be good with a smoke'.

Too expensive.

What's truly unique about the character or atmosphere presented in the cinematics? I mean, they look pretty and have cool shots, but that is just about it.

While the atmosphere is not unique, the blending of character and world is of course much better and allows for quality movement.

I find this view funny. It isn't like the background characters are CGI. The main character and a large portion of the world are CGI, and obviously so. So if it doesn't for someone, how would it not pull them out of the story?

I am a Warcraft fan and I do not like the look, and it most certainly doesn't remind me of Warcraft.

And what is the point of trailers if not to endear support, and thus are more then fair game for judgement.

I think all the trailers look somewhat generic, but I cannot wait to see the film, actually.

I'm WarCraft fan since circa 1995, I love the world and Jones' work too, so I'm still optimistic about the film.

I hope this does well at the box office because I really want a Zelda movie, but it honestly looks like it will bomb.

Yes, taking a shot of LotR was a good idea. :funny:

Games Workshop created Warhammer. Warcraft is Blizzard.

We'll agree to disagree, I don't think the CGI is that bad and it obviously isn't bothering me in the least, and to me it does look like Warcraft. Definitely going to be in line when it comes out.

Warcraft was originally Warhammer but then GW pulled the plug, Blizz had done so much worked they just retooled and renamed it, hence the Orcs used to be Green but now story-wise they we're Brown before a certain event.

This comic is like years and years old:

And now it's truly happening! World of Warcraft the Ultimate Movie edition is happening, wonder what they will make the gamers do. ;)

Ah yes, the first sign that your movie is inferior; saying something about it is "better" than a similar movie that is almost universally revered.

Join us next week, when Travis Fimmel and Dominic Cooper take turns making fun of Star Wars!
