Duncan Jones' Warcraft - Part 1

I don't think Warcraft looks that bad. I feel like I've seen the imagery. Same aesthetic as The Hobbit. Some looks interesting. Meh.

I think Mortal Kombat is easily the "best" videogame film but it still isn't a good film. I love it though but I acknowledge that it isn't good.
Same. I think it's because it knows what it is. Actors seem like they're having fun while spouting off one-liners.

No video game movie will ever top Johnny Cage's, "Those were $500 sunglasses, ***hole." :o

But really, I like that movie. But that sequel tho... More like MK: Abomination.

As I said earlier: No one have ever tried making decent adaptation.Franky, I don't believe the movie industry have any faith or respect to the game medium, and every failure of their half assed efforts entrenches that notion.

Disney clearly did, they spent $200m on Prince of Persia.

The thing is there are a lot of games that lend themselves to film quite seamlessly. If we're talking about Super Mario or Zelda, then yeah thats damn near impossible to pull of in a live action film. However, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid, Max Payne, God of War...those games are all very movie-like and I don't think it would be rocket science to come up with a good script that's creative and faithful to the lore.

I think the problem, plain and simple, is studios do not take video game properties seriously so they hire cheap hacks to write and direct them and these guys probably know nothing about the properties. There's no way the guy who directed Max Payne ever even played the actual video game. Sam Raimi's Spider-man broke the superhero movie curse because Raimi loved the character and understood him and gave a damn about making a movie of quality. This is no different.

It cost that much ??:loco:
Batman and Robin and Pan both cost 125m and 150m respectively. It always confuses me when studios splurge huge moneys on production and still neglects the basics of a good movie ( bad writing, directin, etc) so very much.

Every time i see the tag line on the poster:

I can over look bad cgi for a good story and characters. I will still see it for DJ and Patton.

I can too but the rest of the film ain't looking so hot either.

Damn this film for turning me into a CGI complainer. My obsession with this film's visual effects goes against everything that I stand for.

.

I don't get this part. They haven't released enough about the movie to make a decent first impression let alone a review and I didn't hear any complaints about behind the scene shenanigans. For all we know this good be a great movie.

A trailer is a first impression.

Regardless if the film turns out good or not, it is fair game to judge.

"They haven't released enough to make a decent first impression?" Did you not see that trailer that was just released? Everybody judges trailers for good or ill, that isn't an unfair or weird thing.

This is the second time you have brought up their being no behind the scenes troubles. My response to that is, okay.

I'm not trying to convince you to not like the trailer, if you do then you do. That's fine and it's just as valid an opinion as mine. I didn't like what I saw and you did. Cool.

This isn't the first Star Wars teaser where it's just a series of images, this is a trailer of a decent length and content. If one can't gather an impression of the film from it, then why bother releasing it at all? Bad trailers can be made for good films, definitely, but nothing in here looks interesting at the moment at least to me and I see nothing that says to expect otherwise.

Finally got around to seeing the trailer... Eh. The money seems to be up there, it's got a certain scope but... Seems a bit on the generic side. Seems that the hook is going to be giving fantasy creations like "Orcs" their own character arcs and motivations as you would with human characters but other than that... I don't know. Nothing in the trailer really made a distinct impression on me. Jones however has a lot of capital given his previous outings. He is a very good director so, I hope the final product offers something more interesting to me than the trailer.

Really?? I guess you didn't get the part of my gripe with your post.

It seems to me that you ahave already jumped ahead of the rest of us and watched the whole movie.

I agree .This trailer itself seems pretty generic to me too ( kinda like the latest Star Wars:The Force Awakens trailer). But then again , good movies can have really bad first trailers( Rise is my go to example) and this is quite far from being a bad trailer.

Eh, it could also feel generic due to trying to get the GA into the loop.

I don't review films that I have never seen. What I have seen in the trailer doesn't look so hot. "The rest of the film not looking so hot" does not mean that I am claiming to have seen the film.

I think that you are trying to look for a problem with my post when the issue is that either the film is bad and Universal can't cut a good trailer or the film is good and for some reason Universal can't cut a good trailer.

Sup, you need back up? I'm sharpening the chicken wings as we speak.

Nah, I'm cool. I expect conflict over this. I'm not mad at anyone, I accept that my opinion isn't the be all end all opinion regarding trailers.

I swear I'm not going to be on here everyday or anything. I'll be hard pressed to be on here tomorrow or later today because it's after 12 am in my neck of the woods. I was just hoping for something and not only did I not get that thing but I got something very ugly and unpleasant instead. It's not the end of the world, all I can hope for is that Universal botched this trailer and will do better next time. Duncan Jones has talent and I would really like another decent fantasy epic. Right now all of my interest in the project is dead but it can be revived if I start seeing some good footage from the production.

That is becasue your post itself that I found problematic, perhap you should make your points/intent clearer.Yes i know it is really something to come from someone who makes as much spelling and grammar mistakes such as myself.

the issue is that either the film is bad and Universal can't cut a good trailer or the film is good and for some reason Universal can't cut a good trailer.

Considering our experience with good/great movies with bad first trailers ( not that this is bad trailer, mind you), it would safe to reserve judgement on the quality of the movie itself until it we seen more.

Jesus... All ISS meant was that the CGI and production values she saw in the trailer didn't blow her skirt up. That was obvious from her post and she has a right to judge what she saw in the trailer. She was making no claim as to the content or quality of the film in it's entirety. What she meant, she meant colloquially not in some exacting standard of English.

Zod bless you! Zod bless everyone in your life!

Thankyou.

He's acting like I wrote a ten page review. Believe me, I've seen people review films as if they have seen them after seeing a trailer and that's not what I am doing.

Honeslty if people are going to get upset everytime I See Spidey hates something they like, Prozac prescriptions will need to hit sky high.

I never questioned her( I SEE SPIDEY she? I put a note on that) right to judge the trailer ( though I disaggre with her assessment). It was her post in which she apparently decided to prematurely diss the entire movie based on incomplete information that I took issues with.Apparently that was a phrasing error.

If that is really not her intent , then the mattr is pretty much settled.
