You dismissed their opinion as of course it is going to be negative, as if they have some preconceived notion. You know the critics that gave incredibly good scores to Fury Road and Zootopia.
Yes, I believe critics won't like the film, because of what I saw in promo materials and people's opinions. It's not ****ting.
I, who thought John Wick had no chance of being good, was shocked by the critical reaction, showed the qualities of that film.
I'll be shocked if the film ends up with fresh score above 50-60.

Like what I said before, if the movie ends up being a bomb and a meh movie..it will suck.

We need more high fantasy movies.

Game of Thrones and Thor are about to end in 1-2 years. And even Thor has been mishandled.

Yeah, you see those clips did absolutely nothing for me. They come off as dull, lifeless, and made me question why I should even care what was going on. In short, they gave me the same exact reaction I had to the trailer as a non gamer. And this is coming from someone who loved the LOTR films, who just finished and loved reading The Neverending Story, and etc. So I love fantasy thus the idea of this film interested me. Just nothing at all grabbed me in the slightest. I can see why those clips might grab gamers - it shows a lot more of the world than the trailers do, it shows there will be character development for the characters they care for (?) and not just a war. But as a non gamer, it just magnified my problems with the trailer ten fold.

Now with that said, if you have an already built in interest - you know the characters, you know the lingo, you know the worlds and you care about these groups already so that will make how you view it different from being forced to sit down, only understand half of it, and that's after feeling like you are already trying to keep up with it. The way gamers and movie goers will view it will be different because of that (as the Variety review stated).

Often I cringe at the film taste (or knowledge) of nerds who are strictly tied into video game and comic book, and not into film. Cringe at their taste.
It is because they are extremely juvenile as their knowledge of material does not spread past that very basic stuff. Basically most of us when we were 8 or DC fanboys of any age these days. :funny:

Which means you don't think it will be good. Which is totally different then saying the critics won't like it no matter what.

I like the clips of the wizards and the orcs. For me, they show the potential qualities of this film. The other stuff doesn't do a lot for me, but those clips show some soul and the potential for a good time.

The one thing that screamed out to me from the trailers that made me go 'geez i hope they fix that' was how..ugly this movie is...I hate saying that because there's talented people behind this. But it's not a pretty movie.

The compositing is rough and I can tell what is cgi (tho to be fair I usually can in all movies) but I think the art design in this film is beautiful and spot on. And its colorfully and vibrant and pops.

I'm sorry to sound ignorant but this movie never stood a chance, critics wise at least

I feel the same way about Asscreed too. Video game movies are just poison.

I think the magic looks great. But I don't think the movie looks all that beautiful. Not in the trailers at least. They compositing doesn't work for me. If the Apes films looked like that, I wouldn't have been able to concentrate.

Well, I think Mortal Kombat is a very good film. Entertaining, packed with action and likeable characters, with amazing music. But critics didn't like it that much. You can check RT score yourself.

Why?

Also, we have 3 reviews. 3. We have no idea how this will turn out.

no one has come close to cracking the code on video game adaptations. I just don't see it ever happening. Plus I don't care how many reviews it has so far, I expected it to be panned the minute this movie was announced.

Assassin's Creed has potential. I didn't really like the games, but the trailer intrigues me. It's already showing it has the potential for mass appeal because of the interesting idea they're playing around with. Plus spending double the amount of time in the present is great too because there they'll need to focus on having strong captivating characters since from the sounds of it, it will be more of a character drama which sounds great.

These films can be good, you just have to remember you're not filming only for gamers. You're aiming something for audiences as well. If you can adapt comics and cartoons with years of history and captivate fans and general audiences as well - video game adaptations have no excuse.

I grew up on Mortal Kombat. I love it. Heck love the sequel for how hilariously bad it is. But the idea that Mortal Kombat is a good movie? Yeah, I'd suggest action Martial Arts cinema. :funny:

Zack, hey man, how're things? Agree on video game adaptations curse. Source material definitely helps.

What I am asking is do you think they are going to pan it because it is bad, or pan it simply because it is a "video game" movie.

The Apes films would have never have had an art design like this. Which is what I think is beautiful. The art design.

uhhhhh I'm doing super awesome, dude. Production on JL is going greeeeeat. Ben is being really pushy though, sometimes I think he forgets that I'm the one directing the movie!

I've been burned by video game adaptations in the past, I guess that has something to do with it.

Tomb Raider, Resident Evil (ugh), Hitman, Max Payne, Bloodrayne, the list just goes on and on. I guess I still suffer from Uwe Boll syndrome.

Maybe I can't simply concentrate on the art design with the plastic untouched armor and the obvious CGI. But again, that is just me.

Ah, okay. I get you now. That makes sense.

You see, Mortal Kombat had zero chance to be Godfather. It's just that kind of entertainment. So I don't think it's fair to apply same merits. So good film for me - entertaining one, the one, that succeeds at what it aims for. That's why I find Mortal Kombat to be a good film.. More of that, I find it to be a miracle they turned freaking Mortal Kombat game into a solid narrative.

There is an ocean between The Godfather or Goodfellas and Freddie Got Fingered. Mad Max could never be Oscar worthy, of course until it was. An animated film wouldn't be Oscar worthy, of course until Beauty and the Beast. A movie about kid living on a farm in the middle of a desert planet couldn't possibly be Oscar worthy. Until of course it was.

John Wick didn't need to be The Godfather to make the most out of the writing, directing, editing, etc.

So let's see negative reviews:
One says it's not LoTR or Game of Thrones (6 seasons) so it's sucks. And second one says with pretty words like he is better than you "there are no jokes so how can I like it". And third one basically says "he doesnt like animation" and gives it rotten.
