Duncan Jones' Warcraft - Part 3

Sry but for me as non American its a Shame that the Movie is Such an Great Hit Overseas ( Best Start in Germany , Record in China) but is a Flop in The USA i really hope he makes more money outside the US to get a Sequel like Pacific Rim did

82%? Holy Snyder. That's gotta be a record for something.

That's only the Friday to Friday drop. The drop over the weekend will be in the 70's. Terrible drop, especially for a film that only opened with 24mil. Comparing this to BvS in anyway is silly, you can't compare a film that opened with 24mil to one that opened with 166 million.

This once again proves that Cinemascore is useless. It got a B+ grade, the same as Inception by the way, and even after it only opened to 24mil it still fell off the face of the earth in weekend two. A drop like this for such a low opener can only happen because of bad word of mouth.

So what's the end run looking like, 50 million domestic in total? I can't remember the last American movie that was so imbalanced in domestic vs. international.

The film is heavily front loaded in China as well. Sure it still did great overall but it opened bigger than Furious 7 and yet will get nowhere near that film's total.

I think Cinemascore is more useful the bigger a movie opens. You get a wider range of people to poll other than the diehards.

Still, this is unfortunate for this movie. But hey, Pacific Rim is getting a sequel...

They should just skip the states the next time. Lol

Even Pacific Rim crawled to 100 million and had decent reviews. I have no doubt that a sequel could be in the cards but it seems like another bad idea sequel like many of the sequels were this year.

I don't even know how t gauge the tase of the American moviegoer anymore. Everything has underperformed dthi summer except for Civil War and Dory so far.

Yeah its really weird. Even movies with broad appeal.

SPIDEY mentioned this being heavily frontloaded in China. What has the drops been like?

Conjuring 2 is doing well, and deserves it. Fantastic imo. A movie like The Good Guys was a bad idea for the summer. Was never going to get traction. American audiences supporting The Jungle Book and Zootopia shows some taste imo.

It opened bigger than Furious 7, which ended with 380-390mil (the exact number is in dispute for some reason) and will be lucky to beat Zootopia's 235mil gross. That is what I read on the box office theory forums in the China box office thread. That's from people who know way more about the box office over there than I.

Could I get a link SPIDEY? :yay:

I'm not too surprised, it's been a lukewarm summer for quality blockbusters. What else is coming out that is a sure thing? Bourne? Maybe Suicide Squad?

The BFG.

It sounds like it will pass $200 mil on Sun. Which, with where it started at, is not exactly a great number this weekend. It is sounding like a high $20 mil weekend, which isn't great since the last weekend was $65 mil.

They probably thought The Good Guys would be a good alternative for people looking for something beyond the usual summer blockbusters and animated movies. Unfortunately it appears the film was lost in the shuffle. It probably would of been better severed being released earlier in the year when there was less competition.

There has been a lot of mediocre to weak movies. With the rising tickets I think people are just being a lot more picky theses days. Bad word of mouth has also been a death nail for a number of films this year.

Yes looking at those Chinese numbers, Warcraft fell off a cliff. It would be lucky to get to 250m. Now I am incredibly curious where it ends WW, as it is going to struggle to get to 60m domestically.

How does this bode for Cameron's Avatar sequels? I want them to do well, but if a fully CGI world with strange critters tanks like this - could Cameron's rep save them?

Next weekend the film is going to shed a lot of theaters and Independence Day: Resurgence is going to take away more of that special effects loving boy audience. I do not see 60 million happening for that reason.

I don't think it affects them at all. Totally different situation. The Avatar movies will still make money. It just seems to be bad to bet against James Cameron.

I will never bet against Cameron after Titanic and Avatar. He might come up with another gimmick that will make Avatar beat the odds and get people to flock to the Avatar sequels.

Warcraft is a video game property that has already been waning in popularity for the last several years.

I know people wanted this to be the film that changed course for video games, but it just didn't do any of that. Avatar really has nothing to do with how this film is viewed. Other than that they both have a lot of CG and motion captured actors.
