The Force Awakens Early Star Wars 7 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 3

To be fair, in general though lighter films do better than films with darker themes no matter the quality, it's not just a comicbook thing. I mean in a perfect world Mad Max: Fury Road would have done more than 374 million worldwide.

Are we talking about darker themes or mature themes? Those are two different things. For example, I don't expect the Suicide Squad to be mature, but it will be "dark". Unlike Inside Out with isn't dark, but rather mature.

Fury Road had a lot going against it, including its rating. I love it, already one of my all time favorites. But the series has never been a money spinner. It is why it took so long for the film to be made.

I mean anything that's not easy to swallow. Pixar is always easy to swallow, movie Marvel is always easy to swallow. I don't mean that as a flaw by the way but it's my observation. Easy to swallow things can be super duper amazing and not so easy to swallow things can be complete garbage.

I haven't watched Inside Out again because there was too much truth. :csad:

I honestly don't know what you mean by easy to swallow. Many parents don't like their kids seeing hyper violence or any kind of sex, that is for sure.

I hope that you don't get mad at me but I still haven't watched Inside Out yet.

That feels a bit better.
How wude. :oldrazz:

I can never be mad at you. :yay:

I'll just say there is a couple of scenes that made the end of Toy Story 3 and bginning of Up feel like child's play in comparison. It hurt, but in a brilliant way.

Oh I'm going to need tissues. :(

It comes up mainly in Star Wars, it feels like. People praise the later seasons of Clone Wars, while deriding Rebels as kiddy. Even after the last episode. It's frustrating.

Fans mix up mature and dark way too easily. It seems to stem from insecurity over stuff that they like being perceived as too kiddy, or similar deragatory terms.

EDIT:And yes, tissues highly recomended for Inside Out.

I definitely agree with this, and I think it pretty much applies to all fanbases.

Interesting. My mom took me to see The Last of the Mohicans in theaters when I was 6. A violent R-rated film in which people are scalped and burned alive. We both loved it. Yet when she took me to see Batman Returns months before, she was appalled. I never really got what made it different to her (and never knew about any controversy), but when I asked her later, she just said she thought the Penguin was too gross. Now I wonder if that was just a cover answer, lol.

I had no idea in till I came into this thread tonight that batman returns had controversy lol. Batman returns is the only batman movie that I think is crapy though. But I also never really cared for the batman movies pre batman begins.

love all 3 toy story movies and inside out was great to but I have never seen up before just had no interest in that one.

Any numbers for Monday? Also what about china Tuesday numbers with them being ahead by 16 hours and all.

I believe it is between 6-7m for Monday based on the estimates.

Is that good? I know it is a holiday weekend so people had Monday off. So I don't know how much of a difference that makes and how that would compare to last Monday. So are we looking at maybe 900m USA by like next Monday? Or is that to soon?

I hope that you don't get mad at me but I still haven't watched Inside Out yet.
I think when you do, you'll find it goes against your "Pixar is easy to swallow" theory. That one ain't afraid to serve up the hard truths at all.

So what? It wouldn't be the first time people's projections were wrong and it won't be the last.

Away at a conference this weekend (Gasp!!!! A Union conference no less....) so I'm catching up. I happen to resemble that last remark. :cwink: And, you're right, it most certainly won't be the last (for me anyway). I expected stronger holds through January, but, wrong again. Still, it's crazy to say that we're disappointed with the performance of a movie that just blew Avatar out of the water US/Canada and will top it by well over 100M when its run is finished. I think 600M is definitely a reachable goal for Ep 8, but I wouldn't listen to me if I were anyone else......

This whole Non-troversy is exactly why Suicide Squad will be PG 13. Fanboys are insane if they believe that Warner Brothers would leave money on the table. Deadpool is a smaller film, it can afford to not release in China.

It'll be interesting to see how those do at the BO. We're just starting to see Deadpool advertising in my area. I'm actually kind of interested in that one, but didn't realize it was rated R until fairly recently.

I also saw a poster for the DC Legends of Tomorrow and will check it out. I have no idea if it'll be any good or not. I'll poke around and try to get a better idea. It sounds like DC's GotG or something.....or GotG sounds like Marvel's Legends of Tomorrow......don't want to start any controversy....

I remember someone who thought Breaking Bad should have been on HBO because there it could have been grittier, more violent and explicit. Wanting everything to be darker and grittier realy is an annoying trend.

Looks like it's coming in a skosh higher, maybe around $7.4 million, which would put it around $858.5 million domestic through yesterday, including another $20 from my daughter and I; sprang for the 3D this time, don't bother, doesn't add anything. (Show was reasonably well-attended, I'd say at least 30 people FWIW.)

Maybe another $75 million domestically? It'll finish around $925.
