Episode 09 - "Homecoming" - Discussion Thread

Even though I could see from a mile away that Sylar was going to kill Jackie the other cheerleader by mistake and that Peter would survive once Claire came close to him for him to absorb her power, this episode STILL had me on the edge of my seat. BTW, was it just me or did Peter actually retain "the scar" on the left side of his face--you know, the one future Hiro said he would eventually have? Also, Slyar able to actually kill his victim by slicing them with his mind just goes to show how dangerous he really is. This episode also shows just how formidable Eve can be with her "Jedi mind trick" in that she doesn't have to whisper in the person's ear in order for it to work. But is it just me, or does Bennet's band of "X-Men" for lack of a better word really playing with fire if they think they can somehow contain Sylar. And I must admit, it looks like every theory I had about Sylar was wrong, but hey, at least we're going to get his "origin" next week. I didn't think Hiro was going to show up at the end, but considering how it leads to the next episode, it makes sense.

Obviously, the theme of this episode was exceptance, whether it be one's identity or fate. We have Peter knowing full well he could die in his encounter with Sylar, but still determined to save Claire no matter what. We have Claire accepting her "inner freak" and finding to courage to tell her dad about her powers (even though he already knows), not to mention finding out that she's not the only one with powers. We have Mohinder accepting his father's work thanks to the help of "Soccer Boy." And we have Micah and D.L. accept each other as father and son.

And I am curious as well to see that Niki's deceased sister was also "Jessica" as previewed next week. I'm not sure if Niki absorbed her sisters mind and powers. If I were to guess, I'd say that what we have is a scenario not unlike what happened in JMS' Rising Stars series, in which a character who had powers was abused by her father and as a result, subconsciously created another personality who ended up having the ability. I'm pretty sure that Jessica was the stronger of the sisters, and so when she died, Niki subconsciously adopted her sister's what she thought was her sisters "attitude" to channel her powers and to cope with her father's abuse. It's obvious from the way Micah described what was happening to Niki to his dad was that she has multiple personality disorder, only that one of the personalities, which is based on someone she looked up to, has powers. Then again, with this show dealing with super powers, maybe "Jessica" IS in fact Niki's sister inhabiting her body.

Although kinda confusing(not really)I like how they played out Hiro's time travel. It was obvious that a change happened as soon as he left, because he appeared in her birthday pic right away. But its gonna be interesting to see what happens for 5 months, and then he just disappears out of her life. Much like everyone else is saying, this show is getting better and better

Awesome episode. Everything went down as expected. I wished we could've seen the bullet going through DL. Now we gotta wait 2 weeks before that scene comes up.

The preview for Six Months looks promising.

man the episode really made me wanting more. i love that whole coming out being proud of who you are message during the Claire and Zach moment. "embrace the freak" that should be HEROES next bumper sicker slogan lol

and Jessica being actually Niki's sister? wtf? super stength does seem to be Jessicas powers, but maybe Niki's power is that she's able to cling on to peoples minds? cause how else would Jessica's powers/personality merge into hers?
Oh my, Niki's a chimera!
:D

This episode absolutely blew my f___ing mind.

This show RULES!!!

The great and mighty Sylar... the troubled beast so easily tamed by the whisperings of Eden. Talk about a surprise. Makes one wonder if Bennet has him on a very very long leash.

Claire and Zach was very nice... so was Peter and Claire.
DL and Micah not so much... :whatever:

Arrrrrrrgh... do we really have to wait five weeks to find out what happens to Peter?! :csad:

It was going good until Peter and Sylar fell off of the bleachers. IMO, it was kinda lame. I thought it was going to be some kind of epic battle between them. I still don't understand why that happened. Did they slip, or did they jump, or what? I mean, Peter should have Sylar's powers too since he was near him. And if Sylar didn't bust open, should Peter have busted open? And the scar? He didn't look any different to me. I thought he as going to have something that was disfiguring, or maybe that wasn't the event that gave him the scar.

And then I thought it was kinda silly that Hiro had just met the waitress and she wanted her picture taken with him at her party. She had known him for 2 seconds.

Other than that, I liked it a lot.

ya, but she said, that hiro pop out of her life like a week ago(therefore he was in her life for like 5 in half mouth, before he poped out, and other people who were there would of probably seen him or know him, from that time he spend with her) so, what happened there, (was that last scene, that day, or the next day,) either way, if hiro spend the last 6 mouths in the past, wouldn't ando, remeber him being missing for that time (like in the first episode, when he went in to the future ando said, that hiro has been missing for that time)

Of course not. He went back in time. He didn't personally alter events so he wasn't where he was back then. He just went back six months. There's been nothing to imply otherwise.

Maybe she just developed dissasociative identity disorder from the shock of her sister's death.

The only thing I can think of with Peter and Sylar falling off the bleachers is that Peter is only able to absorb one persons power at a time and he already had Claire's, so maybe it takes time to wear off before he can absorb anothers powers?

Yeah, it was a tad anticlimactic. Nonetheless it was an awesome episode. Best episode yet.

Last night was freaking awesome. Using one finger and Sylar sliced Jackie's head open... that is some serious power! And the wall he just threw Claire off of him. I wonder if he has superstrength, not that he would need it to throw someone half his size into a wall.
The Hiro and Charlie moment was sweet. I thought it was cute she invited him into her picture. Thats just the type of person she is.
Peter cracking his body back into place...looked and sounded like it hurt like hell.

As easy as suggestion girl took down Sylar, it makes me wonder if she's not running the show instead of HRG.

Since they have captured Sylar, does this mean that Isaac lives? Or will he still get his brains cut out?

I guess the painting we saw with the cheerleader laying in a puddle of blood was actually the other blonde cheerleader instead of Claire?

The lady at the restaurant said that Hiro left, maybe that's when he went back in time to learn how to use a sword....?

Go Peter!!!! That was awesome! Finally no more "save the cheerleader, save the world" comercials. This was a suspenseful episode. An important thing too...even when Claire starts to accept herself, she now knows that she is not alone. So...the battle between Peter and Sylar wasn't epic...but with enough fans saying the same thing...we'll get our real fight scene eventually. Nathan's route must be the biggest curveball they're throwing at us...everyone always expects the guy who can fly to be the "natural hero". And taming Sylar....not gonna happen...he's a monster, a killer...as much as they may want to study him, it'll only end bad....Xavier taking in Sabretooth, Predator 2...trying to capture it to study it....it never works out. I don't mind next weeks ep being a flashback or origin story...I could use a break from the intensity...we're only on episode 9...there is so much more to tell.

Yeah, I remember when I first saw the full cast shot of the Heroes, when I saw Nathan, I thought to myself, "Okay, there's your Superman archetype character." And then when he flew, I figured my assumptions were correct. But since then... damn, I'm still wondering if he's going to turn out to be Sylar (if Sylar is a shapeshifter or something).

Maybe she just developed dissasociative identity disorder from the shock of her sister's death.

Or maybe Jessica is her twin sister and they share almost the same powers. But I totally think she has D.I.D becuase of her sisters death... Next weeks episode is going to be interesting to watch.

It sucks cause Mr. Bennett didn't go back with claire to see if Peter was okay and then he got handcuffed, what a twist of events!

I have two questions about Peter's encounter with Sylar.

Did Peter use Sylar's powers to defend himself against the locker doors?

and

Did Sylar cause more damage to Peter's corpse after the fall?

If he did, then he'd be even more awesome than I already think he is.

Agreed. You know it's coming but it's suspenseful anyway. This show rules.

didn't the television people tell you not to hear about it in the morning?

anyhoo, although I was expecting much more, we got a pretty good episode, let's see:

Mohinder decides to go back to NY and continue his dad's research, this was pretty much the only thing I think they stretched way too much, it would have been much better had Mo spent the previous episode finding out and resoluting to go back and yesterday's episode having him in NY again, about to start where his dad left, still, like him, just needs less stretching

Matt wasn't there at all, but we know he'll show up with FBI chick to check on Peter, looking forward to that

Nathan, again, steals the show the whole five minutes he's on screen, at first you think he's got a secret evil agenda and then, just like he's been showing since the start, he's only trying to protect his brother, the ****'s gonna hit the fan once he hears the news.

DL and Micah on the lam work well, but I know there's something about the kid we don't know yet, I liked how when Jess is in control, Nikki's the one in the mirrror, still, we have no idea what's their connection to the whole big picture

as for Claire, we know how that deal went down, and although I was expecting much more bloody corpses, the payoff was great "did I save the world?" "I don't know"... that blew me away, because it's in the finer, smaller details wherein the big changes lie

Peter is THE MAN, this was his first shinning moment, and like all first times at anything, he was sloppy, clueless, barely getting a hang of it all and finishing up in the most akward way possible. He has a huge road ahead of him, but he showed he has what it takes to travel it, can't wait for what's up ahead with him

Mr Bennet was great too, he knows he can't intervene directly, yet he also jumped the gun for his Claire bear, excellent

something I noticed that I found interesting was regarding Isaac's paintings, he's obviously painting the future, and there's these people trying to stop the future from happening, yet, everything he has painted has happened, except for a certain painting in which Hiro and Ando are at the high school... which didn't happen in last night's episode, but somehow, my guess is that we're going to be taken back there somewhere along the road

Eden kicked ass, yeah the whole black leather outfit was too matrixy, but nowadays, anyone wearing black and doing weird stunts is going to be pegged as a matrix rip-off, but what were you expecting? yellow spandex? still, it's cool to see that there's some supers there who know what they're doing, it gives us a glimpse of the larger picture

Sylar is Sylar and that's it, I feel great that all my theories were debunked, my girlfriend told me "he's just Sylar and that's it".... she was right

but yes, we need more exposure to the big picture, if the show wants to keep their viewers, they must accelerate the exposition process, otherwise the ADD crowd will start jumping ship.

oh yeah, Studio 60 is really good, people should be watching it too

EDIT: Hiro's part was a great starting point for the next arc

I'd like to know why everyone in India speaks English. In Japan, people spoke Japanese with subtitles. Shouldn't the people in India be speaking Hindi or something?

This episode was definitely a step up from the last 3 deadly dull eps. I definitely liked Peter in this ep, and I think the lack of Hiro-the-Goof's presence helped immensely as well.

After last nights episode I think I figured out the whole freezing thing. I wasnt sure at first but know we know that sylar is definitly tracking down heroes and heroes only. The girl he was tracking downs father obviosly had some sort of ice powers and tried to use them to protect his daughter. And for those of you waiting for peter's scar to show up dont hold your breath. Hiro obviosly came from sort of alternate future where things went bad. For better or worse I think that future has been changed.

was the tombstone pic of next weeks episode? cuz i pased out 4 mins before the end of the show and had to wach it online.

Yeah. It was a shot of Niki and DL sitting in front of a grave marked Jessica Sanders
