EVERYTHING Black Panther - Part 4

Marvel's approach is simple, bring in this guy:

He needs something to do in between Age of Ultron and Avengers 3 (if he survives), which hasn't been the case thus far as the character is nowhere to be seen after Avengers and won't be seen again until Avengers 2. He would have a larger role in this film, about as much screentime as James Rhodes in the Iron Man movies. If I was casting BP, I would put Clint Barton in as a replacement for Everett Ross. We've already seen him in the MCU, so there would be no need to introduce him.

Cant stress enough just how much the guys ticks all the boxes on this one. Has the look down pat and [in both Serenity and Redbelt] showed just how convincing at on screen hand to hand he looks. We all know about his acting talent too.

Plus he has expressed interest. As for Lupita, we don't know if she's even interested.

I want Mensah as S'Yan. Mainly because in my ideal BP film, T'Challa challenging and defeating S'Yan in honorable combat would be a big setpiece, and then S'Yan would serve as a key advisor. Mensah can do action and has the gravitas necessary.

But Mensah has already had a Marvel role; he was General Greller in TIH.

Wouldn't stop me from casting him in a BP film, but every time Mensah's name is brought up, somebody mentions it.

I know this isn't a comic design but man do I really like it, especially the sleeved variation. It's a great way to get a mask that covers the face while leaving enough of the actor's face visible on screen. The Benin-neck ring inspired face guard is just a really creative touch to me, I think it adds the gold to the suit, breaking up the black, but not being gaudy, serving a functional purpose.

Oh and if the above pictured man can act then yes, he has a great look for T'Challa.

He absolutely can. His biggest U.S. role to date was as Friday in the NBC series Crusoe with Philip Winchester, and in it, I thought he displayed all the requisite range and physical traits to nail the role.

S'Yan would be a good fit for him. The fight between a masked T'Challa and S'Yan in the Panther suit should be awesome. It could really go a long way to show how good the fighting choreography is for the movie.

Eh. He's too big of a name to do a Superhero movie. If he does do one, it'll be like Will Smith and Hancock.

If he was to do one though, it would be a major casting coup for whichever studio that has Superheroes (Fox, Disney, WB, Sony) to get him because then it's likely to be a major global hit at the Box office.

He was almost Iron Man (this is before the whole Marvel Studios thing), so it seems he doesn't feel he's too big.

Hunter is older than T'Challa, so this opens up the door for a lot of people. It doesn't necessarily have to be someone older than whoever is cast as BP, but it should be someone that can carry the presence of an older brother that sometimes talks down to the younger brother. Matthew Rhys from the Americans could be pretty good.

Hunter would probably have a Wakandan accent. He was raised there since he was a baby. It might actually come across as being pretty cool to see a white guy speaking with an East African accent...or it could look goofy. I love Hunter though. He's such a cool *******.

I don't think it would look too goofy. I'm sure someone from the region would be able to identify the nuanced differences, but to my untrained ear, some South African and Zimbabwean accents (yes, white guys) sound somewhat similar to the accents of East Africans.

I don't think it would look goofy, but it limits you to trained actors, pretty much. You're looking for a British guy who's done different accents well before.

Tom Cruise would make an absolutely incredible Ulysses Klaw. That would put things at the highest level possible. You don't want Cruise in a role you expect him to return to. Not unless you want him running the franchise ala Mission Impossible.

Hunter mostly talks down to everyone though. He's an arrogant ******* that manipulates people to get what he wants. T'Challa knows it, so he shoots down Hunter's assertions calmly instead of playing his game. Hunter shows that he has respect for T'Challa, but he sometimes mention how their father, T'Chaka, would have done things differently. I really like their dynamic. Hunter is one of the few people who could mess with T'Challa the way he does on a conversational level.

Its more creative and inspired to cast a big name movie star as a villain or supporting character IMO.

So what feats/gadgets do you guys expect to see T'Challa use in a BP film?

Obviously epic martial arts skills, but what on the tech front? On the fly hacking? Satellite lasers? Nanotech spores that nullify enemy abilities? All of the above? What say you?

I'm hoping he won't carry some hi-tech version of tribal weapons. No energy shield and laser blades. That's grown cliche. The only exception would be laser talons for making quick incisions or slices, or even to be like a taser.

Besides that, I hope they equip him with special lenses for scanning, exo-skeleton built into his costume for extra power, the pulse weapon that makes guns explode, and a small pulse weapon for firing.

The weapons of Wakanda should reflect the "higher form of war" that Thor warned them about in the Avengers. But I don't want something like the singularity bombs the Dark Elves used in Thor: the Dark World.

But why would Wakanda shout, "power to the people," when their history doesn't even suggest something similar to that? I know the country is fake, but they should try to make things make more sense if they're going to use real world slogans. He could have at least told a small anecdote that explained that Wakanda pushed for an end to Apartheid or something similar, but it just came across as if it's okay for them to use the same slogan since they're both African countries. There wasn't much thought put into it, but that's Hudlin's run in a nutshell.

Here's some more historical relevance to the iconography of South Africa's anti-apartheid movement and the independent history of Ethiopia (where Wakanda was originally next to). It's enthralling, but not something I'd want Black Panther to use for its own history.
