Fant4stic: Reborn! - Part 20

Thank you! There was absolutely nothing special about this trailer, the shots were generic. I was watching trailer reviews on YouTube and people were talking about how they loved the shots. Reed walks down a hallway, Johnny walks down a hallway, Doom walks down a hallway, Sue infront of a computer, Ben Grim focused reading the seams on a fastball.

The only shot we get that shows anything other than a lab or hallway, is them out in the Negative zone which looks alot like Svartalfheim from Thor: The Dark World.

Even the shot of Johnny driving his race car is ripped straight out of Abrams Star Trek.
I think we could say that every shot ever of someone driving their car faster than normal is ripped from somewhere.

Did you like the Ant-Man trailer, btw? I'm curious because I found that trailer less visually stimulating than this one.

I had seen Jeremy Jahn's reaction to the trailer on YouTube (I was there at first to listen to his review on "The Intimidation Game"), but that's about it so I can't really speak on the trailer quite yet, but on this subject I usually agree with what Wobbly says so I would gather he's in line with what my perception would be.

Again, for those who look forward to this, happy for you. I will read reactions after the movie is released, but that's as close as I will get to watching this movie.

Why don't the Tim Story movies factor into that criteria? They were poorly received and didn't go far with audiences, but they were faithful enough.

Saying that the Story films were more faithful than the Trank film is like saying Washington DC is closer to the Pacific Ocean than Baltimore is. Technically, it's true, but not to any degree where it would make much noticeable difference.

I did, and it's funny how this trailer seems to mimic the exact format of that trailer. Don't know if that's intentional or not.

Are you going to honestly say that those oral fairy tales didn't change at all as they were adapted across langauages? I'm pretty sure none of those stories stayed the same as they were adapted across different countries.

Disney has the luxury of being in the tv/movie era to broadcast their version over the other stories in several languages.

Basically.

i'm not talking oral history or a game of telephone. I'm talking about adaptations from page to another form of media.

that's a whole other subject.

I'm going to disagree with you here. Story's films were bad because of a bad script. When a script is bad, there's little to nothing to be saved from the film. But Story's films were faithful to the 616 FF. Does that mean that they were good movies? No. It simply means that they stuck to the comic story that the FF are celebrities trying to deal with attention that they get, when Reed just wants to research science, and Johnny wants to grab the lime light, Ben wants to be a normal guy, and Sue is the glue that holds them together.

The biggest screw up of those films was Doom, and that's the one thing they had a chance to get right here and miserably failed.

How cute. Ben's got a baseball bat. Notice they don't show Grimm playing football. Don't think wee little Jamie could quite pull off the "star linebacker" bit.

FOX exec: We can't wait to see what you've done with reformed street tough and college football star Benjamin Grimm!

Josh Trank: I cast Jamie Bell.

FOX exec: Baseball it is!

To be fair, the leaked photo of mummy doom and the image of what's likely him on the lab table looks like he just hasn't shed off what remains of his 'astronaut suit'. If that's the case, it's just another unfortunate shortcut to cutting costs.

I doubt we'll see an improvement by films end, just like I doubt there will be a change to the uniforms of the four once they've established themselves as 'heroes'.

i just can't believe they've managed to create a doom that seemed MORE out of place and WORSE than the Story Doom

Sorry no, the leaked photo has to be from the climax of the film. I say that because it looks like they were filming an action scene and from the trailer there's really no action in this film.

Because they were terrible adaptations. I guess "green lantern" and elektra reboots need to be the complete opposite of the last films too by your logic. Even though they got alot right, the overall tone and writing were terrible

I'm just using your own logic here, it's not even one that I subscribe to: "You need to have a close adaptation first before you give someone a license to re-envision". The FF are never gonna go through as many interpretations as the works you mentioned, for one. The Story movies are terrible adaptations to you, they might have been passable ones to someone else. But they exist and they gave audiences a close taste of the FF straight from the comics, so your logic is covered. It's not the soundest argument, given how much subjectivity plays into it, but there you go. I don't think much of that would matter to general audiences unfamiliar with the source material if the film works in the general sense.

Aside from DOOM I thought the Story movies were very faithful. But just like Batman & Robin which was also very faithful it didn't matter as the quality sucked

But at the end of the day it doesn't matter because the movie sucked itself. You still need to have both, otherwise, despite faithfulness, it's for nothing.

This movie looks like it could be a good movie. Great. But is it a faithful Fantastic Four movie? From what we've heard and seen it doesn't look that way. It may still be a good movie, but you're missing the other half of what makes the FF the FF, which is what creates uniqueness from the source material. If you were to take Trank's eye for directing, gravitas and ability to get dramatic performances and combine it with Story's usage of its core values, you would have a great FF film. Maybe when this movie comes out I would have to give the edge to Trank's film, because despite Story staying more faithful, the execution of those ideas weren't even that good.

There is no reason why we can't have a great movie and a faithful adaptation. This seems more like a response to the failed Story films.

I agree, that's why I doubt there'll be a change to his appearance in this film. There MAY be one planned for a sequel if it ends up getting the go-ahead, but that's just wishful thinking for a worst case scenario.

So you want the whole movie spoiled for you in a teaser trailer? I'll take the infinite hallways and the OBVIOUSLY stolen shot of Johnny driving through the desert (lol) over the stuff I'd rather see in the theater.

Why is Fox obsessed with the Thor movies? The future Sentinels in DOFP were Destroyer knock offs and Doom is a Dark Elf knock off and the Negative Zone is a Svartalfheim knock-off.

What a disappointing interpretation of the Negative Zone. Hopefully Marvel shows us how it's done when they introduce the other dimensions of Doctor Strange.
