The suits are crap (imho).

On the matter of adapting looks for films I saw this elsewhere (not my work):

That is so cool....

I dislike Snyder too. But this is just disingenuous. Snyder's Watchmen and 300 are ridiculously like the comics. And even if he made a sombre Superman film, he still nailed the aesthetics of Super-man.

Okay let me clarify that point. Snyder is probably one of, if not the most faithful directors when it comes to adaptations. However the guy sometimes say buffling things to justify the choices he makes in his films. For example, read his interview where he tries to justify the death and destruction in MoS. His reasons are sometime head scratching and often leave you saying "What". Which is why I compared him to Trank. It had nothing to do with adapting source material whatsoever.

See? Clearly the colorful, outlandish comic book suits just won't work on film so they need to make it as gritty and realistic as possible. That's what people want in their superhero films. Trank gets it.
Fant4stic! :o

Kate Mara looks like she's ready to team up with Ethan Hunt on the next Mission Impossible.

Yeesh.

"There's the opportunity to make something that is challenging and tragic and dramatic," adds Trank. "The opportunity is right there in the material. We'd rather steer it in that direction as opposed to just embracing a tone that comes right off the page."

Jesus. This guy is so far up his own ass he probably still see just fine.

Moleman?

Neatly dressed and looking somewhat dapper in a suit and tie?

Look at that. Look at this stupid-looking crap suit.

Springs.

Go go gadget *****EBAG

perhaps he gets mutated later in the film?

Oh boy! Another coworker gets mutated by probably the exact same thing as the four AND Domashev!

Gotta make that world as smaaaallllll as possible, gotta connect everything back to one central event or person or group of people, so dumbass middle american general public understands it and buys a ticket!

Trank must have seen BayTurtles and thought "GENIUS!"

Fant4stic! :o

What does that Joss Whedon hack know? Comic accurate but still aesthetically pleasing on film costumes? For SUPERHEROES?! Pffftt. Drab and dreary and black and ridiculous is where it's at!

Gotta couple subtitles that Trank is free to use for this movie, next to Fant4stic:

Cool, it's the Fantastic Four!(looks away from bookshelf and back at his computer screen)
Why the **** did somebody make a movie about Jamie Bell and a rusty bicycle, and why does it feature Michael B. Jordan wearing a speaker, Rachel Maddow chilling with the military (and Tim Blake Nelson), and Kate Mara looking like she'd have regretted adult film less? Weirdest indie drama ever.

Hey, now. Rachel Maddow is a very handsome woman.:woot:

I don't know if this film will do good or bad at the box office but does anyone else think Fox is going to have a really hard time making a sequel to it if Trank doesn't come back?

They'll have a hard time making a sequel if he stays.

It occurred to me. What do Batman Begins, Captain America The First Avenger, Amazing Spider-Man, Man of Steel and Daredevil (Netflix) have in common?

Answer:

They are all reboots that are grittier in tone than the previous version.

Has there been a superhero reboot that wasn't grittier in tone than the previous version?

That's a genuine question as I can't think of any.

I haven't seen Punisher War Zone but ive heard it's darker than the first

Considering that it's really no surprise that this is grittier since possibly every other Marvel/DC reboot has been darker

Not really. Sequelizing the FF was going to be hard no matter what.

Giving the FF costumes and media presence isn't hard.

Moving beyond Doom though? Don't want to see SS/Galactus again.

Pulling a Spiderman 2 on the FF villain roster would be hard for anyone.

haha, the trailer was awesome but out of context this looks nothing like the FF. really, only the Thing is reminiscent of the comics. Hopefully this does well but if not, I'll be happy to see them come back home.

Here are all of the stills:

:funny:

The Incredible Hulk is lighter fare than the daddy issue filled Hulk, and the most popular Punisher film was arguably a bit lighter in tone than the first (referring to Jane and Lungdren versions respectively, as most people forget War Zone was the second reboot). Lungdren, terrible Frank Castle he was, didn't use popsicles as an interrogation tool. His Punisher was crap, but it was dark, gritty crap.

I'd wager the next FF reboot will join the list too, regardless of which studio makes it and when.

The popsicle interrogation was straight out of the comics.
