They had a crumbling rock effect over his voice. He sounded a lot worse than Bane ever did.

Wonder if it's one of those movies that those who like character driven stories would love if it didn't have obvious reshuffling to be more commercial and as a result it was just okay.

The Wolverine had similiar critism regarding the third act not fitting with the rest of the movie

the Wolverine did not start with an overwhelmingly negative reviews.

Wolverine was still recieved well though so it's possible that the rushed third act may not compromise the rest of the movie

The Wolverine had 70%fresh rating.
This is currently at 20%
Comparing the 2 is a disservice to TW

Y'know, call me a radical, but I tend to blame directors for bad movies. Joking aside I can understand the temptation to blame Fox. They certainly cultivated bad rep for interference since the days of Wolverine Origins and Tom Rothman. I can even emphasize with them, but that doesn't let them off scot free for me. It's still their work also. You make a bad movie, you own it.

That is the ultimate question. Only difference is that so far, we've heard pretty mixed stuff about the early character development having solid chemistry between actors, but not giving them much to work with & being rather mundane, unlike The Wolverine which had more praise for its first two acts.

I'm not sure I agree. Fox hasn't ever cared about this franchise to begin with, they gave the keys to the kingdom to a cheap, novice director with one success under his belt and let him do as he pleased. It'd be akin to locking a child in a room and seeing that he destroyed it while unattended; who's to blame, the child or the parents? I recognize that this is a far from perfect analogy, and I don't mean to be patronizing by referring to Trank as a child in this case, but it illustrates my point pretty well. Granted Trank does shoulder some blame in my eyes, he clearly didn't handle himself very well, but I think the suits who put him in charge are more at fault for not ever caring about the property until Marvel was red hot.

The Wolverine was a very good movie done in by a god awful final battle (Robo Samurai?!?!?!). I wouldn't even say the third act was bad, it was just the decision to have Wolverine battle a mechanized samurai. Doubt this is in any way comparable.

Yeah and from what I've read it sounds like it fails as a personal tale as well. "Lacking charm" and "soul-less" should be an indication to that.

Also remember those old rumours from last year that Trank wasted months trying to do effects by himself, if that was true it would indicate that the studio was not bothering to keep an eye on the production if they allowed things to go on for so long without doing anything about it.

Modulated.....badly, like an effect you get on a kids toy mic.

Ouch. I'm really curious to hear it now. Shame for Jamie though. He had to be the worst miscasting of this entire movie imo.

All this talk of The Wolverine. As much as I enjoy that film, it does make me wonder "what could have been?". As visually interesting as Sentinel Samurai is the third act is a bit of an odd fit.

Thought this should be posted in this thread:

Just read on twitter

"It's clobbering time" is something Ben Grimm's abusive brother used to say before he slapped him about. Comic book fans will love that.

Two really awful things i just read from reddit

"The only reason they go to the other dimension is because Reed, Doom and Johnny get drunk. Seriously. It is awful and people will probably be talking about how ****** this set-up is for years."

And

"There's a very sudden time jump of 1 year roughly an hour into the film that feels like it was tacked on in reshoots"

Horrible.

Exactly my point, which is why I felt my "child left unattended" analogy fit quite well.

Well, I looked foward to this movie until the day I heard about the embargo.
Now these reviews coming out are so bad, I may not even go to the FREE screening today.

Yup, Fox didn't care how it was done, just that it was done, then Trank made a mess of things.

The one fresh review on RT is a sympathy review.

It's pretty sad that this movie doesn't have a single (actual) positive review yet.

Fair enough. I just think he's able to shoulder the blame whether it was being a yes man or if he was given the keys to the kingdom. He still has responsibility to the movie imo. Not saying I let Fox off either.

I can agree with that, I guess I just take more umbrage with the suits at Fox than anyone else in this situation. I'm firmly in the "revert to Marvel" crowd and Trank doesn't really play into that situation as much as the executives. If anything he's helped my case lol.

I don't want Marvel Studios to get anywhere near X-Men, but FF would fit so well with rest of their roster. Plus sounds like this was another wasted effort so they should just sell it.

Okay. That line delivery was pretty cool.

Don't know if I should go watch it.

Should you watch a film in theaters that has a 32 score on Metacritic? That's like asking if I should stick knives in electric outlets. There is nothing stopping you but there are some very good reasons to not do so.

still want to see what my go-to reviewers think of it (collider, stuckman, birthmoviesdeath) before i make my final decision on whether to see this film or not.
