Mission action scene: An aerial shot of the Thing doing chin ups. :o

That was much better than what we got. If Galactus was replaced with Annihilus, Mole Man was just a normal man, not transformed at all and Doom wasn't still trapped but instead truly headed to Earth and was fighting the Annihilation Wave during his time in the Negative Zone then it would have been perfect.

Instead, it seems like everyone else involved ruined Slater's vision. Looks like at one point, this wasn't just a rights grab but actually managed to be a great film but that vision was canned the second that Fox slashed the budget and hired Trank since he was the lowest bidding director.

These rights need to come back to Marvel.

I don't love the Slater version, but at least Ben puts on some damn clothes (he wore a trench coat in a scene).

So can Kinberg's defenders admit the dude's a hack, now? Slater's not very good, but Kinberg found a way to make it worse.

This sounds worse. It seems really overstuffed. Way too many elements in play, plus an even longer time jump than the film's.

Not saying the treatment is good, but I'll take an overstuffed film over a barren one. Atleast I can pick out scenes, and moments I like in an overly packed film, whereas an empty film is just one big waste of time.

121 pages my a**. That would be like a four hour movie.

I call shenanigans.

I'd really love to read the whole script.

IMO that sounds better than what we got. I'd be happy with some elements of that being worked into a FF film - the Mole Man stuff especially.

Initial drafts are often too long. That said, your math is garbage. Jaws' script was just shy of that many pages. 120 page scripts are extremely typical.

Sorry this news story conflicts with some of your nonsensical defenses of this bad movie.

Sounds like a pretty cool movie to me, but yeah, way to long and expensive as is,

I'm really interested what happens from here.

There is no way in hell Fox didn't know they had a turd on its hands. They placed the review embargo there for a reason (despite what a few may try to claim "meant nothing").

Again, I am just going to see what the next 9 months to a year unfolds.

Reading it over again that Mole Man part is actually similar to a pitch I wrote up a while back (don't think I ever posted, though). Had Reed and Co. investigating some sort of Cosmic Energy (hence their trip into space), and that same energy mutated the Moloids, including one into the giant creature from the iconic cover

Mole Man has great potential

That article just came across as Devin scrambling to his friends' defenses.

"Trank and Slater's Fantastic Four would've been like an MCU Fantastic Four!"

Yeah. Doubt it.

Wow. The Slater screenplay is so much better, even if it would need a bit of a trim before filming. Don't like the four-year time jump, and Doom's powers still aren't accurate, but it sounds far better overall than what we got. It makes the released film feel even more underwhelming.

Kinberg was clearly brought in to get the film under budget. And I'm really not sure he should tackle comic book movies or anything adapted from existing material, he'd be better off sticking to original projects (like Mr & Mrs Smith).

Kinberg is a shameless, corporate "yes-man." He's a perfect fit for 20th Century Fox, which is why he'll continue to script their superhero movies until fifteen years after his death.

Having said that, Trank's definition of "fantastic" is "The Fly." I doubt we were ever going to get anything remotely similar to an MCU Fantastic Four movie. Sure is a shame we will never see what Trank's serious, gritty, "body horror" takes on Moleman, Annihilus, and Galactus would've been like!

Slaters script is a big wtf. Could it have been better than what we got? Maybe... I really dont know. I like How they travel to a world destroyed by Galactus and them fighting the giant monster. Its def got more action and ties into certain aspects of the comics, but there is still so much wrong. And on top of that, things that are just plain BAD. Dark energy Doom, moloid juice, wtf????

Slater's script is just as bad Kinberg/Trank's. Not ONE of them got Doom right.

Like, why is he so hard to do correctly?

That version still has some big flaws and would clearly have to be reworked, but that could be turned into a good story.

The characters are still off, Galactus is completely out of place and doesn't sound anything like Galactus. Doom seems like he's all over the place, and it seems like the story should focus on Mole-man and lose a lot of the other details.

But at least the script was much more ambitious and could have been made into something interesting with some changes and a good director.
