FF 2 Rate and Review Thread

I'm curious on how you think they could pull him off. A 50 foot guy walking around in purple pants? Galactus definitely has a form in this movie, but he's sort of made out of cosmic fire. I thought it was a good choice. Galactus isn't human, so he shouldn't look human. The surfer on the other hand was once human (or at least humanoid), so it makes sense his cosmic form resembles that.

He would'nt have to be purple,he could be maybe like a metallic color or black maybe.I would have even liked a talking cloud or something like that.I just would have loved Galactus being there as a character ,anything other than just a storm cloud.

I just watched the movie and I thought it was great. It has its flaws (one of them is the short runtime), but it is a much better movie than the first one and much more enjoyable. And yes, I definately saw Galactus inside that cloud lol.

I'm surprised that anyone would say that Spider-Man 3 could not "fit it all in" given the length of the movie.

I would place FF2 above SM3 on the quality scale.

I agree. SM3 had higher production values, better actors, and it was a great movie still but FF:ROTSS was more fun. Way more fun from start to finish.

He wasn't just a storm cloud, he had a form.

^ ya i seen a face in there also

anyways, i seen it yesterday, loved it, way better that the first one and better than what ive heard

i actually beleived jess as sue in this one for some reason
again,i loved the movie
8.5 for me

Meh, it was ok. There was a lot of crap to balance out the cool stuff. Personally, I would have just rather have seen a Silver Surfer solo movie.

Average, i didnt like the first one and this is better. Doom was under used again, he came, got his ass kicked, then left. SS was great and the car was cool. Alba was crap. Not Marvel's best, wouldnt even get into the top 5 but it was a fun movie, 5 or 6 out of 10.

Yes he had a form, but he still was'nt really a character he was just an entity.Galactus is an entity, but he is also a character.I just feel that Galactus should have been both.Maybe in the Silver Surfer movie Galactus will make a proper apperance.

oh so there is gonna be an SS spin off movie? i thought my dad was just joking

oh really? ok sounds cool then, though there are other superheroes i would rather see first

Hey just wanted to let everyone know that it looks like FF2 had a 22+ million opening for friday. Pretty ok.

If they can get to 60 million for the weekend that would be great.

It was awful. I sorta forgave the first one, but this one is just dreadful. The dialog is far worse, Johnny isn't nearly as funny or charming as he was in the first one, Alba is a miserable actress (with awful hair and makeup) and is way too skinny, Reed was too much of a wuss (save one scene), and Ben was all comic relief, not enough kick-ass.

Julian McMahon was horribly miscast, AGAIN, and this portrayal of Doom is a disgrace to what the character can truly be.

4/10, and that's only because the FX were fun. BTW, why waste the character Frankie Raye like this? Just make up someone else for God's sake.

Man..imagine a Brad Bird FF :yay: jeez why do doesn't a guy like that get handed the Fantastic Four?

It makes me wanna scream that a freaking Pixar movie can do a FF knock-off better than the real thing.:cmad:

soon as i got outta the theatre for the Incredibles i thought to myself;
this is the perfect pitch fan four flick. it was mighty.
Bird for Prez.
(actually seeing Ratatouille tonight...)

The Incredibles does show how an Fantastic Four movie could be done, all with a tad more seriousness and a higher focus on sci-fi.

Nah, not really. The story in The Incredibles and FF isn't interchangeable.

4 out of 10.

Good:

  • Funny moments
  • Doug Jones as Silver Surfer
  • Cinematography
  • The design of Dr. Doom's suit
  • Action scenes
  • Chase between Johnny and Silver Surfer
  • Visual effects and CGI

Bad:

  • Galactus as some black cloud
  • Campy scenes like Reed's dancing
  • No development of characters
  • Bad conflicts between characters (like Reed having no feeling after teh death of Sue)
  • Relationship between Reed and Sue
  • Relationship between Ben and Alicia
  • Terrible dialogues (except funny scenes between Ben and Johnny)
  • Silver Surfer's story and lines
  • Dr. Doom on the board
  • Visual effects and CGI (planets and Human Torch in some moments)
  • Music
  • The final scene
  • Running time

Overall, I wasn't expecting this movie to sureprise me. The first act was done well, but the development of story lacks, so by the end of the film you change your mind, realizing it's neither better nor worse than FF1.

I just got back from FF2 and I must say I enjoyed it alot more than I thought I would.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

The special effects in particular are really amazing, Silver Surfer, the ominous looking Galactus, the 4's powers......really neat stuff. As for the character stuff, it's well juggled even if a character like Thing doesn't get as much focus in this one which is fine since he got alot of it in the first. He still does stuff and seems more comfortable within the group. Reed is a much better leader and science guru, plus he finally has all these cool gadgets at his disposal alongside the redesigned Baxter building which looked sleeker and more polished.

Johnny is really great, casting Chris Evans was a stroke of genius since he's SO much like the character. I even liked that they gave him a little character development between him and Sue and Frankie (to a small degree). Later in the movie he gets a kickass action sequence so watch out for that. Alba as Susan does a much better job than in the first, she's way less annoying yet still manages to look pretty hot with the blonder hair. She also gets to do some more cool force field stuff with her powers.

Dr. Doom as shown in the pics in his own thread is pretty much how he looks throughout various parts of the movie. He has his little involvement throughout the movie and I was surprisingly satisfied with how most of the suit looked for what it was. The mask, gloves and boots in particular looked badass, even after the phenomenal mask and cloak he had in the first. There are still problems with Doom though he still isn't portrayed as being as smart as Reed Richards and he basically steals the Surfer's board and does some inventive stuff with the cosmic power but he's more of a side villain for the bigger threat. He gets taken down by Johnny who uses all the powers of the FF in a Super Skrull'ish way towards the end of the movie which admittedly is a great scene but it leaves Doom discarded again. There are also a few other elements that I wished were expanded upon like his Latverian castle and nation, his technology, and have him don a full suit of full armor rather than the half rubber half armor hybrid but he may or may not return for a 3rd movie where I hope they get him right and fully go all out in scope.

Silver Surfer was probably the coolest thing in the entire movie, everytime I saw the character I was in awe since just looking at him in motion was awesome. Of course, they had to find some sort of weakness for him to lower his threat level but it was still done in a tasteful manner. Most of the action scenes revolved around him by having the FF work damage control from his leaving surface craters as well as the FF/Military pro actively trying to stop the Silver Surfer.

Now as far as Galactus goes, he's shown to be more than just a cloud. When you see him it goes juuuuust shy of showing his face and the tech from his ship, it's left rather vague but still really cool and cosmic.

I was hoping for something more resembling the comic Galactus but I was still satisfied with what we got here and I think it's handled better than some big dude in a purple suit for the time being. However my main problem between Silver Surfer and Galactus was that there was absolutely no interaction between him and the Surfer, not even a voice or anything. At least show them interacting or show Galactus saying "Surfer why have you defied me!?!". His relationship with Galactus as his herald needs to be shown in larger detail because there's almost nothing tieing them together aside from just setting up planets.

Even more disappointing was the lack of a direct fight between the FF and Galactus. The writer/director felt that it was better to leave Galactus as a nebulous yet unstoppable force of nature but it basically all came down to the Surfer who did some deus ex machina **** to Galactus at the end so it seems to silly to me that he could have destroyed Galactus.

Oh lastly the action sequence between Dr. Doom and the FF in the fantasticar was really good, there are good moments of comedy and action to be had throughout. Hopefully in sequels or spin off movies they'll:

- Expand on Silver Surfer's origins and relationship with Galactus on top of fully showing Galactus and...

- Give Dr. Doom a proper send off in full armor in FF3 and give the character the proper treatment he deserves as the fully realized villain from the comics.

After all is said and done, despite my complaints I'd still give the movie a 7.5-8/10. Well worth a look especially before Die Hard and Transformers, it's probably even better than Spider-Man 3 in certain ways.

I didn't have high expectations going into this movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was actually fun. Still, having completely avoided spoilers going into the movie, I was kind of expecting [blackout]Galactus to come soaring out of the cloud thing a la the UFO's in ID4.[/blackout] But alas... Regardless, I enjoyed it. 8/10 for me.

8/10.

What can I say? I thought a 89 minute superhero flick that was PG wouldn't be good. It was! [BLACKOUT]Things are missing from the book and the end fight/last action piece is edited to hell a little bit, but still good overall.[/BLACKOUT]

[BLACKOUT]Shocked to see Hagar's death was brutal. Not bloody, but still a PG-13 death imo.[/BLACKOUT]

 ALSO, WAS IT MY THEATER...damn caps...anyway, did anyone else see the die hard trailer AND TWO tv spots before the film began? I was like wth?!

I kinda like this movie, the story kinda moved along very nicely within an 80 minutes length. Alot of stuff happened that was nicely edited. The Silver Surfer is very cool. His facial performance was excellent. Good to see Michael Chiklis in human form again in serveral scenes. I think every single actors gave it their all in this movie better than those bad reviews I read. FOX did a great job for the overall movie but they did messed up on one thing that all of us went to see. Galactic is not what he is supposed to be. Instead they went with the Ultimate-lite version with only one suggestion of it's real shape during Sue and Surfer talk in the cell. It wouldn't have cost that much for him to appear in space for one minute. If FOX was going to make an Avengers movie. I think the Andre Braugher's character General Hager would have been General Fury with the usual eye patch and not have a history at all with Reed. It would have been nice to see that connection between the two teams. But like every Marvel's movies so far. No character from one movie are ever mentioned in other studio's movie. Which is shame. WB has that advantages with the DC universe since only WB is producing DC comics movies.
