FF 2 Rate and Review Thread

So you don't like the movie because you compare it to the comic? I know that it does make sense to do that, I get that. The thing is how do you feel about the movie on it's own merits. Not "The Thing wouldn't do that!".

How else do you think they could have achieved this, besides a longer running time?

I enjoyed the broader scope, the sense of a "global crisis". It's one of the reasons why I rate FF2 over X3.

Being a better movie than X3 isnt that hard though is it?

But dont get me wrong, i would never say FF2 was a bad movie, it just didnt feel epic enough for me considering all that was going on, Ghost Rider suffered from a similar problem.

Yeah, Ghost Rider really couldn't step up when it came to the action, which sucked. It was just...slow and boring as hell. Could have actually taken some cues from the Fantastic Four movies on how to do action.

Well, i talking more about the fact that the threat didnt seem real, in both FF2 and GR the world is about to end and yet there seems to be no urgency or desperation.

I actually didnt mind the action in GR, a lot of it fit with the comic, but the final battle should have been MUCH better.

Plus, i dont the action in the FF has been anything special. It doesnt compare to the likes of the X-Men (1st 2), Spiderman or Blade movies IMO.

great enjoyable film, could have been longer though. It just seemed way to short, more like a tv show episode!

At least GR was more faithful to its source than RotSS. It didn't make a mockery of its characters.

It was faithful to the 70's. That's nice, but it wasn't because of the 70's Blaze version that it became as popular as it did in modern times. That it had to take things from Mackie's run shows not only that the original wasn't as interesting, but that it was also involving another character's continuity in the film. While it was playing up the dated material of the original, it wronged Ketch's version.

I don't think that ROSS did any of that. Fantastic Four has actually been one of the more faithful adaptions with the exception of Doom.

It had elements of the original story, but it wasn't nearly as epic as it could have been. With a sentient cloud that made the God-like dialogue useless, filler characters that didn't add to the epic scale, and an ending that was sorely lacking from gravity, it's more like an adaption of the most basic of elements. I gave and still give it a B-, but it wasn't a good realization of the saga.

That's b/c it was based off of Vol. 5 Blaze, not Vol. 1.

Thats the thing though, GR had to cater to ALL GR fans in some way, and so some of DK was included. However only the Penance stare was adapted credibly IMO.

Agreed 100%, ROTSS should have both been more epic and more faithful, i'm not surprised it struggled at the BO when you compare its finale to the likes of POTC 3, DH4 and TF.

i just watched this movie the other day.... and i got to say... it was such a horrible, horrible movie....it was soooo bad.... did they honestly think they were making a descent movie? :(

i was so let down.... i enjoyed the first one... kinda...

In the comics, how did Doom manage to steal the Surfer's powers?

Can you give some reasons for your opinion...?

IMO

The Bad:
Chris evens character annoyed me, i really hated the Human torch in every way, except the fire effects... The character just comes off as a *****e, yet hes a good guy...gah!
It was to short, but also to long if you know what i mean....
was campy
The characters weren't interesting.. should have have better lines.. not enough character development.
The story was boring and overall pretty dumb.
They should have worked more on the story to make it more Interesting.
Mr.Fantastics Stretching CGI was pretty bad
i like Jessica alba, but she had way to much make up on.. i honestly don't think she needs it at all.. the make up just made her look odd.
Silver surfer should have had more lines and screen time, maybe a visual back story to why he came? as well as explaining more about Galactus.
Dr.Doom was pointless, and shouldn't have been in it. They should have just focused on the surfer and Galactus.
Was more of a kids movie then what i thought it was going to be..
wasn't as epic as the trailer made it out to be.
Pretty much all the good stuff was in the trailer.
It seemed all the money went towards the actors and the Visual effects.
It seemed the movie was rushed so it could make money for the summer.
I think Fox might have Ruined it... but is that a real surprise?

The good:
Visual Effects were neat.
Animators did a good job with silver surfer and the Human torch
Over all i think The CGI Art department did the best out of everyone else.

After i saw the movie i went and watched the trailer and its SOO much cooler then the actual movie!!... I think its all a scam.. trying and get people to watch the movie thinking its going to be all amazing though it really isnt..... this isn't the first movie that did this.. such as the x-men 3 trailer compared to the actual movie.... i think its all a FOX ploy to get ticket sales from people...i think its false advertising, hehe IMHO :woot:

Right, that's why Galactus was reduced to a blurry cloud of space dust, and why the Surfer's board was the means all and ends all of the Surfer's power

Well to be fair, that could be said about almost any movie ever made. The whole point of the trailer is to excite you.

The Fan4 movies seem to more or less get the four main characters right, but F up every villain.

Galactus wasn't cloud. Galactus was in the cloud. So they didn't butcher a character they didn't even show.

And did that really butcher the Silver Surfer character? Changing where the source of his power came from? If that's the case then Ra's Al Ghul was butchered because we all know him and Henri Ducard are two seperate people.

Dude, you can't tease people with Galactus's 'feeling of presence' or w/e. He's a major player in the SS story arc; and as far as I'm concerned, Galactus was the cloud b/c that's all we got. We didn't even get so much as a look at his face.

And yes, it did really butcher the Silver Surfer character b/c he was reduced to some silly weakling by creating the impression that he relied on his board for power. Your analogy to Ra's Al Ghul and Ducard is flawed b/c that was merely done to keep people guessing; sure it messes with canon, but it doesn't make a mockery of the characters.

You got the shape of his head in the cloud on friggin fire when the Surfer encounters him and you have Tim Story himself on commentary saying that the character is being saved for the people working on the Silver Surfer movie. It'd have been too much work for a character with a grand total of...I'm guessing maybe a minute and a half of screen time. Even that's pushing it. Galactus was supposed to be a teaser and just having the Surfer fly off into space would have been a lame ending anyway so I understand throwing in the Galactus threat. You guys may say if they're not going to do him right then don't do him at all well...technically they DIDN'T do the character at all. They stuck him behind a curtain and still managed to make him a threat. Kudos to them on that accomplishment I say. I know it must have been difficult. There was enough to tease us that there is a machine and a living thing behind the cloud and that only the Human Torch and the Silver Surfer paid witness to it. Pretty cool teaser if you ask me.

Oh and I didn't know making his surfboard his source of power was making a mockery of the character. They only did it so that there'd be a weakness or something tangible to steal his power from him. See? I can make excuses for character changes too. :oldrazz: (far less for actually merging two into one which is a far worse offense no matter how well it worked)

I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree on the Galactus bit. You think the tease was good, I think it was stupid; fair enough.

Now the Surfer...

Stealing his powers from him isn't a bad idea, but it's the way they did it. It was too easy; this is the freakin' Silver Surfer for crying out loud.

Uhm, have you ever read the original Fantastic Four comic when Doom stole SS powers ? Doom basically came up behind the SS along with two henchmen and attached a clamp to SS and absorbed his power !
