Days of Future Past First Class Official Casting Thread

Not to mention Storm. Come to think of it, we haven't heard any news regarding the big 3. Perhaps they're waiting to reveal them together? I don't know.

Agreed. This is probably the thing I am most worried about. No genuine X-Men film can stand on its own merits without these three characters. Logan is obviously a desired candidate, but after the first 3 films focused on him--plus his own solo film I can see him being absent this time. However, he'd be a definite for the sequel and they'd probably hint at him in this film too.

But they won't make X-Men: First Class without Jean, Storm and Scott. I don't even think Marvel would allow that.

I want Storm in a sequel. I'd like some other mutants to take the spotlight

Hate to break it to ya, but Storm is arguably the most recognizable face in the franchise second to Wolverine. Hell, they even had a baby Storm make an appearance in the Wolverine solo film. LOL They aren't going to trade BOTH of them out for this film. Not to mention marketing: the minority moviegoing audience has to be considered. An all-white cast is just not going to be as appealing as a diversified one.

I don't expect Storm to have a major role in this film but I'd be absolutely FLOORED if they didn't include her at all. That'd be revolutionary for FOX--and not in a good way.

Shareeka Epps

Shareeka is an excellent young actress, but she'd be a TERRIBLE choice to play Storm. She is all of 4 feet tall. :funny:

I'd recommend the following:

Sophie Okonedo: She's 5'9 and in heels could easily get the 5"11 we need for Storm. She also smacks of Angela Bassett in the face to me.

Bonnie Henna: She just screams Storm to me. Give this girl a fricking mohawk and call it a day!!!

And obviously Zoe Saldana would just make fanboys cream their pants worldwide.

EDIT: Can't forget Aisha Tyler. Gorgeous and already six feet tall without the heels. LOL

All those are too old. Sophie Okonedo is over 40 and Saldana is 30+.

Sophie Okonedo is 42 years old. We can rule her out of First Class.

Zoe Saldana is 32. Too old as well.

I have no idea about Bonnie Henna.

But, really, please bear in mind that Nicholas Hoult (Beast) is 20, as is Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee) and Lucas Till (rumoured Havok) is 19. Aaron Johnson (rumoured Cyclops) is 20.

The X-students in this are 19/20 years old, because McAvoy is 31 and Fassbender is 33.

I'm still kind of bummed with who they have as Beast. I was hoping for an older looking guy. I dunno, I guess I'll wait and see.

Really starting to think Cyclops/Storm/Jean aren't in the film. And if they are, they're cameos towards the end.

Or maybe they're just taking their time casting because they're the most important characters? Just because we haven't heard of anything yet, doesn't mean they won't be in the film. They will probably be the last to be cast.

I still like Kiely Williams

I understand that.

However, there's nothing to say that Storm is not older than the other students. For example, a 45-year old woman pursuing a degree in college can certainly share a classroom with a 19 year old college freshman. It happens all the time. Even in one of the animated series the Storm character was older than the other X-Men. In my opinion, Storm in the FOX films is also slightly older than Scott and Jean (I think Halle and Famke are the same age). Who knows?

Again, I haven't seen anything anywhere suggesting that all of the students must be pubescent or teenagers. So not sure why we must rule out an older actress for the role. We...don't know anything at this point. :csad:

Cyclops and Jean will be In the film.Storm Is the question mark.

We have no guarantee about that whatsoever actually.

For all we know, this ENTIRE film may center 100% on Xavier and Magneto's relationship (which fits Bryan's character development approach anyway), their split and then conclude with Xavier's recruitment of the mutants. Jean, Scott and Storm may get all of 2 minutes of screen time. There really is nothing to suggest otherwise at this point.

I'm thinking this film will focus more on Xavier and Eric. With the X-Men as more supporting characters. Although I do hope they give meaty roles to them. Namely Cyclops and Jean. Maybe if there is a sequel, the team will be more focused on.

If that's the given route for this movie, then I hope that the beginning of X-Men 3 will at least be referenced, just to keep everything in continuity as best as possible.

we really do it is like making wolverine origins w/o wolverine

Well, we've seen though both the official synopsis and the casting that this film will primarily focus on Xavier and Magneto's relationship. I'd like to think that in addition to showing the early beginnings in the 60's that we'd also see a span of decades into the future... But, we don't know that for sure. For all we know this film will entirely be about their relationship and the mutants they meet along the way. And we really may not see Scott, Jean, and Storm until a subsequent sequel.

I just don't want to get my hopes up just to be let down.

It seems likely though that Scott would be a main contender, seeing as how

a. He's Xavier's first student (I know it's movie verse but still it's a given)

b. His Younger brother is in the Cast. Mystique and Nightcrawler continuity aside, They're both still Summers as opposed to Wagner and Darkholme.

c. Story wise I think it would be much more interesting.
Maybe a rift between brothers would be a good parallel backdrop between Erik and Charles. Scott shares Xaviers views while Alex could share Eriks.

As much as I would love Jean to be in the film, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen.
I would hope either Jean or Storm if not the two make it though.

I'd hate for the film to have the absence of another strong iconic female X character.

People are forgetting some facts here.

Bryan Singer as he has been casting jack The Giant Killer has also been looking for actors for Cyclops and Jean.

Singer himself said This IS the formative years(remember that) of Xavier and
Magneto and the formation of the school.

This film has been compared to Star Trek and that film from begining to end(not counting Spock Prime showing Kirk the 24th century) spanned 25 years.
Plus this Is compared to X-Men and X2.Not all casting has been made public
yet.

If you have Havoc In the film Cyclops and Jean will be In film. The students who become the first X-Men team will not just be beast,Banshee, and Havoc(or Mystique If she Is student and not a part of Hellfire Club)

Rember this.Back In 1999 Both Famke Janssen and james Marsden were last to be cast before they had to recast Wolverine.Their announcements came only weeks before filming beguin.

Not to mention while liberties will be taken with The Last Stand and Wolverine not Including Cyclops and Jean are too much libitries not to cause a lot of complaning. The reason SInger was brought on was to make a film that can be the success of X-Men and X2 and create excitemnet.

Well if that is the case Marvelrobbins, then it would also make logical sense that Storm would be involved too, as Bryan set the three of them up as predecessors in Xavier's school in X1.

Maybe Storm and the others are involved after all...?

X-Men producer and writer Bryan Singer cleared up some X-Men: First Class rumors for us at the unlikeliest of places—a church in Hollywood, where he was a guest speaker on Sunday. After the hour-long talk, Singer talked to us about the casting—which he is in the middle of doing at the moment. Kevin Bacon is in; Taylor Lautner is out, for now; Meagan Good is uncertain.

"I wanted Taylor [Lautner] to do it, I really did," Singer said in an exclusive interview. "He's doing a movie in Pittsburgh called Abduction and then he's got the next Twilight movie. We talked about it a lot, he is a friend, and I really wanted to make it work. It just doesn't look like it's possible to do it."

So, who is in it? Singer confirmed the latest Kevin Bacon rumor (as a villain). "Kevin Bacon I do believe is going to happen," Singer said even before the deal is inked for sure.

"James McAvoy is definitely cast as a young Charles Xavier, Mike Fassbender is in the movie, Nick Hoult, those are for sure," Singer confirmed.

"When I got to London four weeks ago, there was only one actor cast for sure, and that was really scary," Singer said. "I looked at this big board with all the characters and there was only one person cast, McAvoy, and yeah, that was really, really scary."

But the next part of the process, casting the younger superhero mutants in this pre-quel movie, is "the fun part."

Singer also squashed another rumor that he is set to direct Wolverine 2. "It's not what I'm going to do right now, the next project for me next year, in London, is Jack the Giant Killer that is set in the 1300s and it's very fun. It will be a big movie."

Singer, who described himself as "an agnostic who prays" and was brought up in a Jewish household, spoke at the church with X-Men producers Ralph Winter and David Gorder. Hollywood United Methodist Church is in the heart of Hollywood and is notable because of its big red AIDS ribbon on its tower. They have a summer series of sermons that involve movies and film clips called "Crossflix" which involve some of the actors and filmmakers involved with the movies. They have many genre-related films in the series this year, including The Invention of Lying, Up and Avatar.

Singer explained to the 50 people in the church (where SF classics like Back to the Future and the original War of the Worlds were filmed) that "the X-Men series was about people who feel disenfranchised and separate from the rest of the world, and that is what Stan Lee meant when he created the characters. Lee, who is Jewish, told me it was about persecution, and he also created it during the time of the Civil Rights movement."

Singer also thought that his Superman Returns was a bit Christ-like as well. "He was a powerful being in human form with all the frailties and temptations," Singer said.
