Days of Future Past First Class Official Casting Thread

Yeah, the picture of those two next to eachother but having opposing ideas is very interesting. I mean their facial features are very much the opposite, yet they do come together for a while, they share different ideals. Which done right could be fantastic. Imagine the first pic released to simply be these two standing side by side just looking out past the frame. Mcavoy's thoughtful face and Levitt's intense one. That would be great stuff right there.

JGL is probably my favorite working actor right now, but I don't know. I just can't see him as Erik.

Aaron could play Magneto and with make up to make him look older as the film progress. He does not look 20 anyway. He looks even older than James at 31.

He's 19, and he looks it.

You honestly tell me he looks 19 ? He could pull off teen and adult role with his looks !!!

He could play opposite...

Have you seen Kick-Ass? he looks 16 in that movie, and he hasn't aged all that much since.. He grew some facial hair, big whoop. In no way does he look older than McAvoy, who looks his age.

Kick ass was made in 2008 ! He has matured since. Although he does not look 40, but with make up and great acting, he could pull off teen Erik in concentration camp until mid to late 30's Erik

Well, I guess I'll go ahead and weigh in on this: Me likey. :hehe::up:

But I am concerned with how young they are going to cast the X-Men. I wasn't exactly expecting to see the Power Pack on the big screen but we'll see what happens. Perhaps this is a good sign that they are abandoning the prior films' continuity completely.

Well, we know Aaron Johnson (19) and Andrew Garfield (27) auditioned for Jack The Giant Killer and Singer is using that casting process to look for potential actors for Scott and Jean. I would assume that the X-Men will be around that age range, which isn't too young.

The problem with that is that McAvoy can easily play Xavier from about the ages of 25-40. Johnson? I don't think so. He'd make a much better, age appropriate, Scott Summers.

Which would work. Although if Singer is handling the casting process I don't believe we are going to see Storm in this film.

If you look at the picturs of Aaron i posted above then you can see he could pull of 40 y/o person with added grey hair etc.

This is from April. He doesn't look any older than he actually is, 19, and he still sounds like a teenager.

A 19 year old will not be playing a 40 year old. I'm sure there are plenty of 30/40 year old actors around without having to sit Aaron in hair and make-up 2 hours a day adding wrinkles.

I really don't like this idea of ignoring the past four film's cannon...

Why did we make these films (which weren't all bad) and set up all that they have in terms of back story and setting up films (like an X-Men First Class) if we were just to abandon it.

One of the best parts of X-Men Origins: Wolverine was seeing the young mutants escape into Charles Xavier's custody. It would be awesome if they had McAvoy play a young Charles, and Patrick Stewart play a Charles Xavier who is 45 and older as they form the school and create the X-men.

I'm really, REALLY skeptical as to how this movie is shaping up.

PREEEEEEEEACH!!! So. TRUE! Fanboys are NEVER Satisfied with casting announcements save for few (i.e. Bale as Batman, Stewart as Xavier)..
Yeah, but I understand some of the complaints. I just don't think we know enough to really come down too hard on this..

and is it just me or does McAvoy really doesn't look as young as everyone keeps saying he does?

and what's up with people finding ways to squeeze JGL into every other CB movie now? :p

I thought about McAvoy a while back... for Eric. Not sure about this. Doesn't seem like that ultimate good guy, but he can certainly capture Xavier's intelligence. Just figured him as more of a villain.
As hinted in X1 and X2 and shown much more in X3, we've seen that Xavier is not really an ultimate good guy. Sometimes he's had to make some pretty difficult decisions in his pursuit to create a peaceful co-existence and keep the more powerful mutants in check. Showing Xavier as a flawed and somewhat troubled young mutant with an incredible ability will leave the door open to a brand new interpretation of the character..

Maybe they should just drop the First Class thing and make this about young Mags and Prof X?

I wouldn't mind seeing that but from a studio perspective, it wouldn't be bankable all that much. You need to have some X-Men in there to sell it. Plus, I woldn't mind seeing the X-Men in their younger days. If this becomes three films, it would be cool to see the actors grow and progress.

So other than Scott and Jean, what other mutants are gong to be featured? I swear to God, if Logan shows up....

Jack the Giant Killer being delayed kind of dashes my hopes for Singer directing the Wolverine sequel.

Whatever they do... they are going to have to add 15 years to McAvoy if Cyke is in this.

I understand that they can do a makeup thing but I just don't understand casting this young. If he was mature 31 I could understand but he isn't. He looks like he is 26-27 years old. All of the First Class actors are going to have to actually look like Teenagers now. And whats the age bracket, 15 years old? If it's any older than that things are going to look shakey. I hope this works out but I'm not seeing it right now. This is nothing like the Joker casting by the way because Heath Ledger wasn't too young for that role. My problem with his casting had nothing to do with his age.

Again, we don't know the story, all the characters, we don't have a script, we don't have a total grasp of the timeline...

Let's just wait it out...At least until we get more than three people cast. :p
