The original Targs forced Winterfell to surrender to them, so it obviously has been done before. I don't know how easy it was, but they did it.

The North surrender without a fight and did so in what I believe was not winter, let alone this winter. Do people think Jon is just going to give up the North, when he knows what is coming from the other side of the Wall?

Also recall Aegon's conquest; he and his sister wives couldn't take Storm's End using dragons because the constant rainfall and winds made it difficult for them to fly and breathe fire. I'd have to imagine it would be even worse during a blizzard.

I feel like I should have remembered this.

Any way we slice this, my money is on the Starks. Jon is the warrior leader who will "control" the North, Sansa will have Littlefinger's skill set and thus potential might control the Vale, Arya is completing her assassin training and will have an army of wolves, and Bran has knowledge and the ability to see through the eyes of others. So no surprising them.

Who said anything about giving it up? Dany has made it clear she will leave a head in each of the territories. She only needs their fealty.

If she goes the Queen route then the territories will be headed by governers. If she names herself Empress then each territory will be a vassal kingdom with its own King or queen. Either way Jon would get to keep the North but he would swear fealty to Dany and the throne.

The only reason she would need to use force is if he refuses to give fealty in which case she'd have to force him through force.

The North swearing fealty to a Northern is different. The King in the North thing came from the fact that the North was sick of this crap. Also the North wouldn't be the rebels here, Dany would be.

The King in the North thing happened because Joffrey a Lannister killed the Warden of the North. It was a gross violation of the relationship and the terms the crown is supposed to have with the North. They never would have rebelled if that hadnt happened. And Dany had nothing to do with that.

If Dany gives Jon the same terms she gave Yara I think Jon would agree to those terms. He isnt some rebel to the core that will only accept independence and to hell with anything less. He isnt going to start a war the North cant afford with Dany and her allies when the alternative is a stable united kingdom with a kingdom's worth of resources and allies.

As long as the North gets to operate like they used to, and the North gets to have its own leader like Yara will be for the Iron Islands their best bet is to reunite with the crown under Dany.

The naming of Robb (or Ned) as King in the North was only a matter of time... Before Ned died. IMO... They were already in open rebellion. If they saved Ned, they'd have wanted him as King too. Whether he'd accept it or not is a different issue.

More specifically, TWoW COMBINES [blackout]the Ironborn theme with Dany's theme, so if that scene is anything other than Dany & Co. sailing for Westeros, I'll be shocked[/blackout].

Jon has no desire to rule at all imo. He just wants to stop the WW and for the north to be peaceful and safe. Littlefinger is the one who might be a problem. He wants the Iron Throne.
