Isn't the fact that actually managed to tame these mythical creatures enough? The fact that they took seven kingdoms and made them one? For every madman they've had great Kings as well, men who have brought peace and prosperity to the realm for years. How are the Lannisters or Greyjoys any better? I mean the Lannisters got where they are because Lann the clever was intelligent and Greyjoy's because of some descent they claim from a mythical hero. Targaryens got where they were because they were ambitious enough to take what they want.

They killed the Dragons. Wiped them from the face of the planet do to their own arrogance and stupidity. They were also responsible for more death then any that came before them or even since.

The Lannisters use intelligence, but they also put on their work boots when need. Tyrion has show more cunning, resourcefulness and care then any Targaryen. Tywin and Jaime are beast. "The Rains of Castamere" says it all. The Greyjoys have worked for everything they have ever had. The Targaryens have been living off their myth for generations and finally got punished for it.

I honestly can't wait until Dany shows up to "save the day". I have a very good feeling it will not play out how her fans hope it will. The working title for the last book kind of says it all.

And again you mention Tyrion, Tywin and Jamie and I'll mention Brynden, Aemon and Jaehaerys. Brynden alone has done more than all three of those Lannisters and shown greater cunning and resourcefulness.

No, we know how the Dragons disappeared. Breed in captivity, they grew smaller and sterile until they died out.

And that is the thing. They didn't have that tool for quite awhile, and once others caught on to it, they said no to their reign finally.

Disagree on what? The houses are what they are. Each individual is who they are. In the end we will see the best and worst of each.

There is only one house Stark, like there was only one house Atreides.

I remember it being sometimes impossible to even browse through here without stumbling into spoilers which is pretty much why i've been avoiding this thread for months now.

Yeah people should leave that stuff to the "song of fire and ice" thread in the Book forum. Bringing up specific plot points that haven't happened on the show yet should be grounds for an infraction. I already had one character's fate ruined for me.

The AV club actually has two separate discussion/review sections for those who've read the books and those who haven't, it seems to work there more or less.

I think those wanting to do the book vs show comparisons should indeed post in the "song of fire and ice" thread.

Hell i've read through a lot of the walking dead comics and i've barely brought up what happens in the comics when i posted in the walking dead tv show thread here. Also this season is supposed to be quite a big departure from the books anyways.

What are you talking about? I like Viserys, I kind of like Dany, I love Rhaegar, Maester Aemon is the man, and [BLACKOUT]Jon Snow[/BLACKOUT] is my favorite character. But their house is full of a bunch of entitled kooks. You just pointed that out.

"We are the dragon, respect us or we will have our mystical beast commit mass homicide!" I prefer the Starks, Lannisters, Greyjoys and others who have actually earned the right to talk a little trash in the last 100 years. Those that don't depend on magical creatures to do all their dirty work.
