Olenna Tyrell for all the thrones please, she was amazing.

Loved Margarey playing Joffrey that was an absolutely awesome scene. Love when the female characters on this show play the men like fiddles since they are so damn marginalized.

Rewatching some of S2 the other day and got to wondering, who was going to be Renly's Hand of the King?

And speaking of hands, there's never been a female Hand, right? Who among the many ladies we've met could serve as an effective Hand?

Considering how they were playing him, I'm guessing a Tyrell?

Never took Loras for much of a politician. Though he does have his charms.

I had assumed Loras would just be Kingsguard.

Count on Joffrey to shoot a crossbow like a b****. Daryl Dixon does not approve.

I wish Jamie and Robert were good friends... that duo plus Tyrion would be the bromance of a lifetime.. hilarity at its best.

lol at the Queen of Thorns putting Renly's fans in their place. :funny:

Great, great episode tonight. It had everything, and a bit Great new characters, witty, fun dialogue and the episode flowed beautifully.

Cat praying for Jon just didn't fit her character though.

Yeah that totally came out of nowhere.

Maybe if there had been like a scene where she is talking to Ned about how she wishes she had been nicer when he left, or her and Rob talking about him... but nope.

It's like she hates him. Tells him to go to hell. He leaves. She never mentions him in any way (for two seasons), and now bring its up out of the blue.

Understand why they did it and they have been doing it the whole series. They have made Cat's hate for him softer and I am not a fan. Makes Jon look a little whiny, while trying to make Cat more sympathetic.

I can full well believe she wished him dead, but she'd never take it back. She'd might feel bad about it, but she wouldn't take it back. Makes me wonder about other things going forward, and that might be important this season.

Cat in the books was a cold hard *****. Yet this one in the show is uneven at times. Both I could do without.

She loves her kids and fierce in her defense of them. While I don't like her, it would make her stupid decisions like letting Jaime go and her treatment of Jon understandable. Not good, but you might be able to understand it. She wouldn't want Jon to have what she thinks is her kids right.

i thought it was great.
Please don't post spoilers like that here. We have been told not to.

Anyways, the decision is going to make something else harder to explain later imo.

This episode tried to involve too many characters in a single hour which is something I'd hoped they had fixed. The season premiere seemed to be a good indication they had but in this episode it was back to its old ways.

I rather liked tonight's pacing. The scenes were long enough to let you soak in the characters and happenings without jumping around too quickly.

DarthSkywalker... please edit your post to remove that. i didn't know... sorry guys!

To be fair though, given the way the books are written, that's fairly inevitable.

Plus, it's a **** load of characters.

You've got several subplots going on in King's Landing alone.

10 eppys is too short for multiple stories like this. its not like it would hurt HBO to make 12-15 episode season.

Yeah, I thought the pacing was great. I really hope they sort of keep Dany's story together, almost by itself. Long 20 min segments every couple of episodes. I think more then anything else, her story and pacing disconnects with everything else. There is just not enough cross over with the characters and what is going on.

I think it worked perfectly fine tonight, kind of like a season 1 episode. What was nice is that it felt organic. When you are jumping from Stark to Stark, Lannister to Lannister, it works imo.

Mention a character, and they appear. I liked that. Even the Reed exposition felt like it came out naturally.

Yes it would. This show at 10 episodes cost a lot already. It is only going to keep increasing with each passing season. You want a Rome? You want the show to be left unfinished?

Oh I know the complexity and depth of the books but they could do a better job. I know they are against 12 episode seasons, but it would allow them to spread the characters out better. Ten episodes just doesn't leave enough room. And better editing would go a long ways. Jon's scene for instance tonight was completely pointless. We the audience delt with wargs in the Jojen scene. Jon could have discovered wargs in a more important scene in another episode. It wasn't needed tonight. The scene of Jaime taunting Brienne about whether they should cross the bridge could have been cut. A few other instances in the Jaime Brienne scenes could have been cut. The business of shae asking tyrion about Littlefinger and Sansa could be cut. That whole plot is unneeded. The scene in sansa's room when Loras comes to get her could have been cut. That's just a few.

When you start cutting that stuff, you start cutting characterization and foreshadowing. A lot of those scenes were about building characters and foreshadowing imo. I don't think most watch this show for simple plot, but the characters first and foremost.

The scene with Sansa showed a lot imo. Her remembrance of the tournament, while Loras couldn't remember a thing. She still has her little crush, showing that part of her still believes in her fairy tales.

You're thinking of the wrong sansa scene. I'm talking about when sansa is getting dressed. That was not needed. And I didn't get any characterization I didn't already have in the scenes I mentioned. I want this extraneous stuff gone for the very reason you mentioned. Characterization. I don't want micro scenes or snippets scattered over 50 minutes because there are too many characters in one episode. It begins to feel schizophrenic. I want some breathing room. I want some moments to linger. I want proper characterization. Not the foot notes version tucked into 30 second scenes. I want some flow. Basically I want a better scripting than we are getting at times.
