The Force Awakens General Star Wars Episode VII News/Speculation Thread - - - - Part 13

Same. That is what makes Jedi a solid finale to the trilogy despite its other flaws. The central, core plot line of the main hero is handled almost to perfection. That is why I prefer it to TDKR. My first exposure to Star Wars was the finale portion of the Luke vs Vader duel playing on TV screens in a Radio Shack when I was 7.
Not a bad scene. :cwink:

My first memory of Star Wars is Luke in the icy wasteland of Hoth.

Ya that's what I'm thinking.

How did no one catch this at the time? Hahaha I love it!

Abrams always seemed like the ideal director for Star Wars, but there's something incredibly exciting on the idea of Rian taking over. His writing is top-notch especially in relation to character development.

There's also the likelihood he'll take the property to new territory. The only thing I'm unsure about is whether it's appropriate for him to continue from Abrams' work as opposed to starting from scratch.

If this is true, blah. I can't believe they'd announce it before VII even finishes shooting. I really hope they aren't fast tracking this.

How are they fast tracking it when we've been aware of a new trilogy since 2012?

Wonder what Duncan Jones will be doing in a few year time when directing Ep9 is up for grabs...

wow!! so we're going to get a different director for each episode??!!

I guess I don't mind, as long as it doesn't affect the story and overall vision.

:lmao:

Yeah, I thought JJ had a chance to do the trilogy, but I am not against this, outside of the possible turnaround. But pre-production will probably be done before VII even premieres, so it is all good.

;)

Oh yeah I don't see that as an issue, they'll be developing already I imagine and things will be well prepped by the time Ep VII hits the screens.

I just don't want each episode ( or the characters themselves ) to feel "different" because they are going to have different creative teams working on each ep.

there has to be consistency amongst the stories and characters.

edit: wait. Rian Johnson is directing both Ep 8 and 9?? I 1st read he was only doing 8.

I wonder if they will go back to May. With the first spinoff in December as well I'm thinking they may keep that.

Oh, I wouldn't be surprised if May 2017 will be the release date.

And this is very exciting news. I love Brick and Looper was very good. Such an inspired choice. I think we all pretty much knew Abrams wasn't coming back but this is a great next choice.

*crosses fingers for Brad Bird for Ep. IX*

Or Duncan Jones would make a great choice. Though we gotta see how Warcraft does.

Ya, I would love to see them to a SW. But I think they may stick with December, especially if VII does real well with BO. Since right now there is longer legs to be had during that time, and since they have the first spin-off in December 2016 I dunno if they would right away have a May 2017 one. But as mentioned before I think they will see how it does during the Holiday Season. That may be more of the deciding factor for them.

Rian Johnson deserves every bit of this. So excited for him. Star Wars is in great hands.

No way! I have been wanting Rian Johnson to direct star wars when i was half way through watching looper. Awesome news.

I like the idea of each film having a different director. It certainly worked for the OT. My top two choices to direct Episode IX are Alfonso Cuaron or Brad Bird.

so is Rian directing both 8 and 9 or just 8?

I've seen conflicting reports.......

I think it looks like it will work out perfectly. Abrams can play into nostalgia in his films (Super 8, Star Trek: Into Darkness etc.) and that's what makes him perfect to direct episode VII because he'll be true to the world created by Lucas and tell a story about our original heroes. By the time Johnson directs the focus will have shifted to the younger members of the cast with the original cast taking a backseat or being killed off.

As it stands, he'll only be directing VIII, but he is writing the treatment for Ep VIII AND Ep IX.

Damn it, now I have to see Godzilla, Chronicle and Looper to catch up and have an opinion on all this! I'm very glad they're choosing different directors for each movie, that's what I wanted.

But man, Disney really wasn't kidding with their Star Wars schedule... nine years ago when I was watching RotS in theatres... wow, I could never have imagined all this.

I didn't know Johnson directed Brick... uh, hopefully Looper is better.

Yeah, I was lucky enough to miss any of the lines where Luke called Vader father. I only saw the intense part where he realized that Luke has a sister and threatens to turn her instead. Just so bloody cool.

That is a good first memory as well, nothing beats Empire!

Brick is excellent.

Brick is excellent.

I still think the Brother Bloom is his best film though.
