The Force Awakens General Star Wars Episode VII News/Speculation Thread - Part 7

I know we've had the BTS pic already and that it was obvious, but we didn't really have confirmation.

R2 is definitely in Episode VII.

"The first behind-the-scenes photo from Star Wars: Episode VII hit Twitter last Thursday, featuring director J.J. Abrams, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and a certain blue and white astromech droid — who StarWars.com can now confirm will indeed be in the film. But who are the two men standing behind Artoo, looking very protective of the “overweight glob of grease”?

Meet Lee Towersey and Oliver Steeples, Star Wars fans and members of the worldwide R2-D2 Builders Club. They create fully functioning, film-accurate astromech droids like the R2-D2 seen in the photo, and they’re officially part of the Creature Effects team for Star Wars: Episode VII. They didn’t apply for their jobs, but still had what is probably the best reference one could hope for."

Wow that's a dream come true for these guys who probably would never think a hobby would end up landing them a job for a Star Wars film!

Has anyone heard of anybody getting contacted or called back from the online submission? I had a few friends send in videos but none of them have heard anything.

It's great to hear about fans who really get into what they love actually get to be apart of it.

Jason Flemyng...who was one who added additional noise about Vaughn directing Episode VII.

Flemyng:

Pint of Stella and " Star Wars" script! That's me sorted till 5!

I caught the name "John." Most of it is not immediately readable. But I can make out some phrases. He says it's for an audition, so it's probably like the script for the "Rachel" and "Thomas" parts: The names are codenames and the text is from another movie or book or whatever. I wonder if those are together codenames of three of the younger important roles (there were four put out there back in June): Rachel, Thomas, and John.

Meanwhile, we’ve also got solid word that Michael B.Jordan isn’t the only “Chronicle” star up for a role in the movie; Jordan’s co-star, Australian actor Alex Russell, has also auditioned for the movie. One can only assume Russell, whose other credits include “Carrie” and “Wasted on the Young”, is up for one of the film’s new young hero parts.

Is it ok if I post some of what I have transcribed from the picture?

Edit: Flemyng deleted it. That's why I saved it. Heh.

Flemyng deleted his instagram post. I saved the image just in case that would happen, of course. I PMed a mod but since he just now deleted it I'm thinking him putting that online was a bad idea for him.

I will never understand why Jason - who has been in the acting game for a while - thought this was remotely smart especially with a big project like this. A JJ Abrams project no less.

Dare I say it was very stupid on his part. But that's obvious.

I first noticed Jason Flemyng in "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", where he played both Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde.

Does anyone know what it reads?

Some small pieces. John is going through a bag. Will is another character with lines in the script. I PMed danoyse but didn't get a response. If the casting breakdown agencies have these pages "The Maybe" can just buy them from them I guess.

Ya it may just be a "side" that really does not hold too much information. Though it is watermarked to hell, and on that thick paper that many secretive films (including most Bad Robot projects) are on.

I think by December casting news will start rolling out. Latest January.

The last visible lines are something like

WILL
What about you? I thought <<you or we>> were doing <<<this or that>> together--?

Not too sure about "together" though.

The part in the middle is something like

As John goes through <<his or the>> bag, Will <<NOT DECIPHERABLE YET>> from
the imagined <<wound?>> <<on?>> <<his?>>

Not too exciting.

John and Will, eh? Those seem like rather boring names for SW.

EXCL: Production Designer Rick Carter on Star Wars: Episode VII's Blend of Old and New

All this week, ComingSoon.net is attending the Camerimage Festival of the Art of Cinematography in Bydgoszcz, Poland and, along with many of the event's other esteemed guests, had the opportunity to speak with production designer Rick Carter, whose credits range from Back to the Future, Part II and III, to Jurassic Park to Avatar to Lincoln. Recently, Carter served as consultant on Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World and is currently hard at work on J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. Check back soon for the full interview, but here's what Carter had to say of these two highly anticipated 2015 release.

"I offered my services to Kathy Kennedy," Carter says of Episode VII, "who I had known for a long time. I said, 'If you're going to get involved with 'Star Wars' in this new generation, I'd love to be a part of the dialogue and help'. She invited me in last January and that's what I've been doing ever since. Then J.J. [Abrams] came in and we hit it off."

The Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm production is taking an interesting approach to the film's design, teaming Carter with a younger designer, Darren Gilford. Carter explains that, by working in tandem, the pair can mix classic and modern sensibilities.

"We're kind of both production designing the movie as a team," Carter continues, "to help give J.J. the best of what his generation and the new generation can offer with Darren Gilford and also myself as a guide that takes us back to not so long, long ago, but to the 70's where I was around and making movies that old-fashioned way. Whenever we want to touch that level, it relates to something that's not just being made up as though it's new. It's being rediscovered."
