Ghost Rider 2 In The Works - Part 1

I didn't like the first film, but everything I've heard so far for the sequel has been very promising. I was hoping to read some Ghost Rider before the film came out. Does anyone have any good recommendations? Was the 2006-2009 series good? Is the new one good as well?

Well I would not recommend the new series.....unless whenever you saw ghost rider you thought to yourself that the one thing he was missing was he needed a great ass and maybe some breastages :whatever: In which case go for it.

Just looked it up, and I think Ghost Rider looks weird with hair. :oldrazz: I think I'll pick up the 2006 series instead.

I have seen Ghost Rider only once (in theaters), and I didn't watch it again because I thought it was terrible.
Now that Spirit of Vengeance is coming I may wanna give it another chance, is there a director's cut available? Or any other different version?

There is an extended version but it's not really different. GR1 Director's previous film, DareDevil had a radically different Director's Cut version which was actually a rather decent superhero film and way better than studio cut of DD but sadly, even the extended version of GR1 is crap. I still like watching the movie version of GR in some scenes but that's about it.

At first I did not like Aaron's run, but after reading it in omnibus from, from start to finish, it's a great, fun story that flows well. Art is iffy in many parts, but still a good read. But when read on a monthly basis, it was a pretty lackluster book. Read it in one chunk over 4 or 5 days (or 2 in my case). It works better that way.

Yeah, I saw the director's cut for Daredevil, I thought it was better too. Thank you, I think I'm gonna watch Ghost Rider again, give it another try.

My friends and I have bad movie nights, and the next we have will be Superhero themed. And the capper for the night will be Ghost Rider: The Extended Cut

Nice, this gives them time to tweak the effects and hopefully they're gonna add even more GR action than what was seen a Comic-con.

I fear they might simply release a short teaser. We'd be lucky to even get the full CC footage, let alone more. Hopefully I'm wrong and they release a kickass action packed trailer.

Actually they will have to. Considering how much the 1st film is hated by the fan base in general they are going to have a real challenge to convince a lot of comic fans to give this another shot. The Comic Con trailer would be a great starting point for a promotion re-launch.

I agree, I think they're gonna come out swinging...it's not a good time to be conservative.

Good point. GR1 was a disaster and a really disappointing action film. They really have to sell the action aspects of GR2.
Can't wait for the full trailer.

i thought the director's cut had some alt scenes which were better than what was in the studio cut

but agreed, it wasn't the best

Beanjuice,

Idris Elba plays a French monk who has been searching for the Ghost Rider.

QBComics,

Jason Aaron's run was the best run since the 90's. Daniel Way's run was not that good and overly disappointing. If you have a chance, pick up Garth Ennis's two paperbacks. They showcase some fantastic artwork and his style is definitely used in GR 2.

I haven't had a chance to read the new series, but it looks like the first arc has gotten mixed reviews; so I have nothing to say about that. I'll be picking it up eventually when I have time to run down to my local comic shop.

The female host for the rider is not a new concept--neither is having the female's attributes put on a spirit of vengeance. It was done in a What if comic, Dan Ketch's mother in the later half of the 90's series, and a Marvel Comics Presents with a female psuedo-SOV that Vengeance (GR's nemesis turned ally) had to take down. In some of the latest ads, this new female host looks like she's going to have her own adventures soon, ( separate from Blaze); so that is a good sign that Blaze will take helm of the series very soon.

I think I also remember reading that his character is an alcoholic who is kinda supposed to be a little bit of a comic relief type...or am I off on that?

Thanks! I think I'll definitely pick up the two Garth Ennis paperbacks, and maybe Jason Aaron's after that. Thanks again!

It was hated by plenty of fans, but good DVD sales and the BO indicate it wasnt as hated by the general public, so I dont think they have to seperate them that much, it depends, in the interview I read in Empire the directors say it definately isnt a sequel, but how can that be with Cage on board?

The recent video interview from comic-con the directors said that Nic Cage is pretty much the only thing they are taking from the previous film and they are taking a new approach. It is basically the same situation as what The Incredible Hulk was to Hulk...except in this case the lead actor is reprising his role.

Relative success of GR1 at BO doesn't mean it general public liked it. Second Transofrmers film outsold other 2 in US but its negative effects were so big that hurt the opening of the 3rd film and even force filmmakers to almost apologize for it. Still, I know sales count for something. Hopefully this is not a case of Punisher WarZone or Incredible Hulk and can really become a fun hit.

Cage could actually work as JB if he brings his Bad Lieutenant spirit here specially with creators of Crank behind the camera.

You know what GR villain I want to see in live action? That one female demon who looks like an emaciated supermodel.
